Aurora James - POV
My heart was racing as a thin layer of perspiration formed on my forehead. I don't know what game he is trying to play right now, but I can't let him win. I looked at myself in the mirror as I opened the tap and splashed some water to calm myself down.
I almost lost control and moaned right in front of everyone. "He is our mate," Lily exclaimed.
"Don't irritate me further, Lily," I warned her. I took in a few deep breaths to calm myself down as I rearranged my curls and plastered a smile on my face as I walked out of the washroom. As I walked closer to the dining room, I heard the men joke and praise the food that was served today.
"She truly has a talent for cooking," Adam said when I saw Levi nod his head. No one saw me walk in except for Zander, whose eyes were fixed on me.
"I think we can ask Mrs. Kennedy to prepare the lunch for your wedding then?" Zander casually spoke when I saw the smile on Levi's face fade away as I saw him looking at me. Even though we announced that we would be getting married soon, we haven't taken any initiative to prepare for the wedding, and I know Zander is using that against us right now.
"Um, I…" Before Levi could say anything, I interrupted him.
"I think that is a great idea, Beta Perez. I mean, we have been looking for someone to cook for our wedding, but I think we could just ask Mrs. Kennedy, right?" I said when I saw the smile on Zander's face fade while Levi had a confused look on his face.
"When are you planning to host the wedding?" Adrian questioned.
"In a month's time," I said.
"Oh, so why haven't you started any preparations yet?" Zander asked me.
"We were supposed to go and look for a venue today, but since Levi is going out, we will do that once he comes back home," I answered, I saw Zander's hands curl into fists, but he didn't say anything more.
"Oh my," Adrian exclaimed when we looked at him as he wiped his mouth with the napkin and got up from the table. "We might have to leave now, Levi. I don't think we should delay this anymore." Adrian said, and Levi nodded his head and got up as well.
He walked towards me, and before I could think what he was about to do, he pulled me into a hug. "I will see you soon," he whispered in my ear, and I nodded my head. As we pulled back and placed a kiss on his cheek, a smile formed on his face.
Even though my eyes were focused on Levi, I could feel the anger that was radiating from Zander. "Stay safe, all right?" he asked me, and I nodded my head when he stepped aside. After Adrian said goodbye to me, the two of them walked out of the house, leaving me alone with Zander.
I glanced at him one last time before I walked out of the house as well. Since today is a Saturday, I didn't have to go to work for Zander, but I did have something else in mind. I walked to the pack house and made my way to the garage, I looked at all the cars parked in there when I finally spotted my car.
I made my way to my car, got inside, and left the place. As I reached my store, I parked my car in the driveway, walked to the boot, and grabbed the cleaning supplies I brought with me as I walked inside. Even though Levi and I cleaned this place a few days ago, a new layer of dust had accumulated on the surface.
Letting out a sigh, I began my cleaning.
Ring ring.
I was mopping the floor when I saw my phone ring. I placed the mop inside the bucket walked to my desk, and answered the call. "Hello, mom. How are you?"
"I want to ask that from you, Aurora. Why didn't you call me? Is everything all right back here?" she asked me, and she sounded stressed.
"Everything is fine, mom. I was caught up in some work." I answered, and only then did I hear her relax.
"I thought Alpha Alonso did something to you." she asserted, and this made a frown appear on my face as I walked to the only chair that was there and took a seat.
"Why did you think like that?" I asked her.
"When he came back to the pack a few days back, he looked furious, and he even punched his Beta in the nose for no reason," Mom explained when a smile formed on my face. I think I have successfully got on his nerves with the act that I pulled that day.
"Don't worry, Mom. I just told a small lie, and he believed it."
"What did you tell him?"
"That I have a mate."
"That isn't a lie, Aurora. Didn't you tell me that you found your second chance mate?" she asked me.
"I did, anyway, he didn't do anything drastic, right?" I asked when I didn't hear anything from her. I thought that the line was disconnected when she spoke again.
"He killed two rogues who were in the dungeon."
"So?"
"He beat them to death, Aurora. I think he is more livid than we thought. Just stay safe, all right."
"Okay, mom. Bye." I said when the line was disconnected. I placed the phone on the table and leaned back on my chair. I might have bruised his ego right now, but I hope he does not do anything stupid and let this go.
I resumed my cleaning, my mind preoccupied with what Mom said, and I didn't know how the time flew by when it was getting dark outside, so I locked the doors and walked to my car to head back to the pack.
I was about to open the door when I heard heavy footsteps behind me, I felt my blood run cold.
