Chereads / Beta Zander Perez / Chapter 46 - Chapter 46

Chapter 46 - Chapter 46

Aurora James - POV

Don't panic, Aurora. I kept changing those words within me as I casually turned around to look at the woods. Even though there was no one in sight, my gut instincts were telling me that someone was there, and I was not going to stick around to find out.

I quickly opened my car door and got inside, I locked the doors and started the engine while my mind recalled the words that were in that letter. My heart was beating so hard I was afraid that it might jump out of my throat as I sped down the road and swerved into the lane that led to the beta's pack.

Just as I passed the pack gates, that was when I let out a sigh of relief when I saw the familiar faces of the guards. As I reached the pack house, I parked the car in the garage and began walking to the cabin.

"We should inform Zander about this," Lily suggested, but I shook my head. I didn't even see who was there, so I could never be certain if it was the rogue who killed the two pack members or if it was just a forest animal.

As I reached the cabin, I fished out the keys from my pocket opened the door, and walked inside. I placed my handbag on the coffee table and walked further into the house while turning on the lights. The place was eerily quiet as I got a faint scent of Levi's perfume. After locking the door, I made my way to the kitchen when I came to an abrupt halt.

The kitchen door was left open as the cold wind blew inside. There were dried leaves on the floor, but what made my blood run cold was the mud print of boots on the wooden floor. The footprints were huge, suggesting that it was a man who was in there, and it was still fresh, which meant that he was there only minutes ago.

"Who could have come in?" I asked Lily, but I didn't hear anything from her. I walked closer to the door and closed it again when I saw that someone had picked on the lock. I looked around the cabin to see if something was stolen, but everything was right in its place when a frown formed on my face.

There was a paper stuck to the refrigerator using a magnet which was not there before.

Did Levi leave a note?

I walked closer to the fridge, grabbed the letter, and opened it to read.

You fancy saving lives, don't you, Aurora? I am going to kill another person in this pack today. Come and stop me if you can.

The letter wasn't signed, but I knew who it was.

Crack!

My eyes flew to the kitchen window when I saw the rogue standing a few meters away from my cabin. He was wearing a different shirt today, but he had his mask on while his eyes twinkled in mischieve.

With one final look at me, he turned around and ran into the forest. My hands began to tremble when I ran out into the living room and grabbed my handbag as I looked for my phone.

Where the hell did I keep it?

I finally found it and quickly dialed Zander's number. The phone rang for a long time when it went straight to voice mail. I tried a few more times, but he did not pick up at all. I called Alpha Lopez's number, and that too went to voicemail. I know I had no choice, so I left a voicemail on Alpha Lopez's phone.

I threw the phone on the sofa and looked around, knowing that I might be losing time. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath when Rachel's panicked eyes clouded my mind. I know I can't let another person die that way as I ran out into the forest through the back door.

The cold breeze that blew past me made me shiver as I looked around, clueless. "We should find a warrior to help us, Aurora," Lily said.

"There is no time for that. I have already called Alpha Lopez and Zander several times, and I have also left a voicemail. But if I could just distract the rogue for a couple of minutes, that might save a life, Lily. Moreover, we might at least find out why this rogue is killing random pack members." I asserted.

"Okay," she said when I frantically looked around the forest, not knowing where to go.

"Calm down. We can find him using his scent." Lily said as I took in deep breaths to calm my racing heart. A few minutes later, my nostrils were filled with the scent of garbage and rotten eggs. "He has gone west," Lily said, and that was where I ran as well.

I dodged a lot of branches and shrubs while my clumsy self fell on the floor multiple times as my foot got tangled in roots, leaving cuts and bruises on my body, but I didn't slow down. As I saw the trees thinning out, I ran out of the forest when I saw there were a few houses in front of me that were spaced out.

My eyes scanned the surroundings when I saw one particular house whose front door was left open. I ran towards it, and as I got closer, I saw that the door was hanging on its hinges. There was a wooden table next to a door, which was overturned, and there were glass pieces on the floor.

"Argh!" I heard a piercing scream coming from the second floor as I ran in that direction. I took the steps two at a time making sure that I didn't alert the rogue, when I reached a hallway. I looked down both sides when I saw the rogue in the hallway to my right, standing near a closed door.

He was so preoccupied with forcing the door open that he didn't realize my presence. I looked around when I found a metal rod next to a table.
