Chapter 48 - Chapter 48

Beta Zander Perez - POV

Aurora kept groaning in pain, when all of a sudden, she stopped moving entirely. My instincts were urging me to stop and look at her, but I knew if I did, I might lose it. I ran past the warriors who were walking towards the house when I saw them give strange looks my way, but right now, I didn't care.

As I reached the room, the nurse quickly opened it, and I walked inside and gently placed her on the bed. The moment I stepped aside, I saw Doctor Jenkins walk inside with a team of nurses. "Beta Perez, I want you to step outside," she asked me, but I shook my head.

"I will not interfere with your treatment, but I am not leaving," I said in a firm tone when I saw her quiver back. Ares was pushing to take control, but I held him back. Aurora was immediately hooked up to an IV while a nurse cut open her dress when I sucked in a breath as I saw the blood that had coated her stomach.

They quickly wiped away the blood when Doctor Jenkins looked at the stab wound, which refused to heal. "What's wrong?"

"I think her wound is infected, Beta Perez," she said when I saw a nurse run out of the room as I took a closer step toward her. The wound was wide open, and I was able to see her muscles inside while the blood kept flowing out.

"Do you need any medicines that aren't here, doctor Jenkins?" I asked her when she shook her head.

"I don't think that is required, Beta Perez. We do have an antidote to silver, so we will give her that and see if it works," she answered when I saw the nurse rush back inside with an injection. Doctor Jenkins quickly filled the syringe with the liquid and injected it into Aurora's bloodstream.

"Doctor, we are losing a lot of blood." one of the nurses said as she kept wiping the blood.

"Inform the blood bank. We might need to do a blood transfusion as well." doctor Jenkins instructed, and the nurse nodded her head as she removed her blood-soaked rubber gloves and threw them into the rubbish bin as she rushed out of the room.

"We can save her again," Ares growled in my head, but I didn't say anything. Doctor Jenkins and I were focused on Aurora's wound when I saw that the bleeding gradually stopped.

"It's working." I heard her mumble when the nurse gave her the equipment to stitch the wound.

Two hours later, doctor Jenkins had managed to stabilize Aurora, and after taking various scans, she told me that she might have a concussion as well, but that could not be certain until she woke up. Once everyone left the room, I pulled up a chair and took a seat next to her bed as I took her hand in mine.

My phone began to ring, and I took it from my pocket when I saw that it was Adam. "Hello?"

"You have blocked your mind link once again." that was the first thing he uttered.

"I am sorry, I was a little preoccupied."

"How is she?"

"Who?"

"I know you are with her right now, Zander." he retorted when I let out a sigh as my eyes moved to Aurora.

"Sleeping. She hasn't woken up yet." I said.

"I will be there in a few minutes," he said, and without another word, he kept the phone. I placed my phone on the table next to me, leaned back on the chair, and closed my eyes. Even though nothing happened to her, my mind was clouded with guilt.

I should have picked up her phone, instead, I let my ego rule my decision, and I almost lost her. I felt the tears cloud my vision. While I drifted off into a dreamless sleep with my regret clouding my mind.

I was startled awake when I heard something fall. My eyes locked with Aurora's as I saw a sheepish smile on her face.

"I am sorry, I was thirty..." I didn't let her finish as I took the glass from the side table and past it to her.

Aurora James - POV

My heart was beating so fast I was afraid that it might just pop out of my throat. I thought that Zander would have left a long time ago, but to see him right next to me made me feel on edge. "I thought you would have left," I said when he raised an eyebrow at me.

"You are fucking crazy. Did you come to this pack with a death wish?" he yelled at me as I looked away.

"Yell at me all you want, Beta Perez. But I didn't want another death to stain my hands." I retorted. For a moment, everything was silent when I felt the sparks on my chin as he turned me around to face him. We were only an inch apart as our eyes locked.

"You could have called Adrain. Why didn't you do that?"

"That is why I called you. That rogue was standing only a few meters away from my cabin. And you were the first person that crossed my mind." I whispered when I saw that his eyebrows scrunched in an unknown emotion. "I didn't know you would ignore me that way," I told him when I saw a look of hurt cross his face.

"But that was still a stupid move, Aurora. You could have died." he scolded me when a sarcastic smile formed on my face.

"I don't have anything to live for, beta Perez. All I have ever seen in life is rejection and hatred. You know, at one point, you would start to hate yourself as well. Yes, I am not a fully trained warrior, but I can still save someone's life."

"Help was on the way," he said as he moved back a little, but I shook my head.

"That rogue would have killed that woman a long time ago if I didn't intervene. I knew help was on its way, but when I saw the love her mate had for her, I felt this sense of accomplishment, Beta Perez. I know I will never experience that kind of love, but I think I managed to…"

"Aurora, you have…"
