Chereads / Beta Zander Perez / Chapter 38 - Chapter 38

Chapter 38 - Chapter 38

Aurora James - POV

"I…" The warrior did not finish his sentence, and I saw Zander clench his jaw.

"Did anyone see who did this?" Zander asked, and one of the warriors nodded his head.

"He mind linked me saying that there was a breach in the border, but just when I came here, I saw the rogue have taken out a chunk from his throat before he ran back into the no man's territory."

"Did you see what he looked like?"

"No, Beta Perez. He was wearing a Balaclava, so I was not able to see his face, but he was wearing a worn-out red t-shirt." the warrior described as I felt a cold shiver run down my spine. This was the same rogue that I saw at the restaurant that day.

"Send the trackers to look for him. I don't think his scent would have faded." Zander said when the warrior opened his mouth to say something but then shut up and stepped back. A frown appeared on Zander's face as he looked at the warrior with a questioning look on his face. "Spit it out," Zander growled.

"The rogue did not have a scent."

"Are you telling me that he was human?" Zander questioned, but the warrior shook his head.

"No, but I think he must have hidden his scent," the warrior explained when I saw two of the other warriors trying to lift the corpse, but as they lifted the man, something fell out of his pocket, and Zander saw it too. He walked toward the man took the letter from the ground, and tore it open.

As he read its contents, his face contorted into anger while he crushed the paper and stuffed it inside his pocket. "This rogue has the nerve to make demands," Zander said as he looked at the warriors.

"Take him to the hospital ans then inform his family about this," Zander told the warriors and they nodded their heads when Zander walked out of there. I stayed in the forest till they took the corpse away before I walked back to the pack house.

My mind kept drifting off to the letter that Zander had. What could have possibly been in that letter for Zander to get riled up like that? "We could take a peek if you want," Lily suggested, which made me come to a screeching halt.

"You know he would be furious if we get caught, right?"

"Trust me, we won't get caught. Just a peek." she tempted my curiosity, and I knew that I would not be able to function properly today without knowing what was written on it. I looked down the hallway to see that it was as deserted as usual. I turned around and walked towards Zander's room.

As I came to a stop in front of his door, I moved closer, pressed my nose at the edge, and took a sniff. The scent of oranges and cinnamon wafted into my nostrils, making my stomach tighten in excitement. The scent was faint, which suggested that he was not inside.

Here goes nothing.

I twisted the door handle, opened the door, and walked inside. My heart was beating so hard I was afraid that it might bruise my ribcage as I looked inside the room. I didn't know I was holding my breath till I let out a sigh when I saw that the room was empty. Zander hasn't come back yet.

I quickly walked inside and gently closed the door behind me as I made my way to his desk. There were papers scattered on his desk as I began searching, but the letter wasn't there. I turned around and looked into his dustbin as well, but it wasn't there as well.

"We should leave," Lily said when I felt our mate bond get stronger. He was getting close. With one final look around his office, I quickly walked outside and made my way to my office. Just as I closed my door, I heard his heavy footsteps down the corridor.

My chest was rising and falling as I felt a thin layer of precipitation form on my forehead. "Where did he keep that letter?"

"I don't think he has kept it in his office," Lily suggested.

"We will find it soon," I said as I made my way to my desk and took a seat. There was a pile of paperwork waiting for my review, so that is what I began.

Knock knock.

I looked up from the paper when I heard the knock again. "Come in," I called out when the door opened, and Levi walked inside with a nonchalant smile on his face.

"Am I disturbing you?" he asked me, but I shook my head as I gestured for him to take a seat on the chair opposite mine.

"What brings you here?"

"Can't I come to see my fiancee?" Levi asked me with a smile on his face.

"You can. But I thought you had a hectic schedule today?" I asked him as I leaned back on my chair. My back was starting to ache from being seated for hours.

"The pack is in lockdown for a few hours, so no training sessions will be conducted for the day," he answered as a dark look crossed his face.

"I am sorry about the warrior," I said when a forced smile appeared on his face.

"He was quite close to me," Levi explained when he looked up at me.

"Was he here for a long time?" I asked him, but he shook his head.

"He came to this pack to train as a warrior about a year ago. He was a quiet man, who didn't mingle with everyone, but I guess we clicked. We would always have a can of beer together at the end of our day."

"I am sorry, Levi," I said, but he shook his head.

"We will find who is behind this soon. Anyway, I came here for an entirely different reason." he began as a frown appeared on my face.
