I stared at the scroll, trying to make sense of the nonsense it held. The moon's shadow doesn't chase the sun, and both remain in balance. Yeah, sure. Whatever that means. I read the same lines over and over until my head started to spin.
Master Fang Zheng was just chilling there, sipping his tea, probably waiting for me to explode. I looked over at him, then back at the scroll. What was I supposed to be learning from this? Was I supposed to understand that the moon was just hanging out with the sun, not caring about anything?
Fang Zheng finally broke the silence, his voice oddly serious. "Balance, Amon. Balance is everything. Everything in its place."
"Yeah, but... balance is overrated, right? I mean, who cares?" I muttered.
Fang Zheng shot me a weird look, but didn't say anything. Instead, he started pacing. Like, really pacing. His footfalls were quick, panicked. He was muttering something under his breath about the moon, the sun, and chaos, or whatever.
"Master?" I asked, now starting to get worried. "You okay?"
"Balance is a lie! A big, fat lie!" he suddenly yelled, eyes wide. "It's all wrong! Why do I keep teaching this? I'm fooling myself! AAAAAAH!"
I stepped back, unsure if I should laugh or run for my life. Was he serious? He was seriously losing it. Fang Zheng's muttering turned into full-on rambling, his hands clutching his head like it was about to explode.
I just stood there. "Master, I think you might need a nap."
He didn't respond. His eyes were empty, staring at nothing.
I sighed. "Great. I broke the master."
And there it was. Master Fang Zheng was officially gone, lost to his own teachings. What was I supposed to do now? All I wanted was to get stronger, not become part of someone's breakdown story.
