Chapter 33 - Warning by friend

I had barely gotten out the door when Astel caught up with me, looking way too serious for my liking.

"Hey, Amon. You're really going to deliver that scroll, huh?" he asked, practically smirking.

"Yeah, what's wrong with that? Elder Wei said it's simple," I replied, trying to sound confident, though even I didn't believe it.

Astel shook his head, his smirk widening. "I've been around long enough to know 'simple' here means trouble."

"I won't mess it up!" I protested, though deep down, I knew being the main character meant one thing: disaster was inevitable.

"Sure you won't," he said, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Just don't come crying to me when it all goes wrong. I'm busy not being an idiot."

"Thanks for the vote of confidence, buddy," I muttered, rolling my eyes as I trudged off to begin my "simple" mission.

I had a sinking feeling this was going to end in chaos. But hey, at least it wasn't some ridiculous training, right?
