IV
"It is said that the hero had made the greatest of sacrifices, it is said that he suffered the worst of endings, the worst of lives, in order to save everyone from an evil greater than his suffering, but what if all that were really false? After all, stories change with time" -A compilation of Kaito's short stories and tales.
The boy woke up with blurred vision, in an unfamiliar place. As he looked around him more clearly, he noticed that he was in a small hut with only the bed he was in and nothing else. Then he saw two young men who were looking after him, and they noticed that he had come to.
"Oh, you're awake! How do you feel now?" asked a young woman.
The young woman standing in front of him was slim, with blue eyes and blonde hair. She wore a black skirt with a white blouse and a yellow cloak that matched a yellow pendant. She wore white stockings and black shoes, plus a brown bag and on her hands she held Kaito's white scarf, not knowing how important it was to him.
"Mmm well, better.... Hey, excuse me, could you hand me my scarf? And could you tell me who you are?" Kaito asked, confused.
"I'm Beatrice and this is my older brother and twin Ross. Nice to meet you!" she introduced herself politely.
"What's your name?" Ross asked.
The twin was a tall young man, with bleached blond hair, though neater than Kaito's, and blue eyes like his sister's. He wore the same necklace as Beatrice. He wore the same necklace as Beatrice. A yellow cloak stood out, which he wore over a white garment with a black belt and black shoes.
"Kaito, my name is Kaito, nice to meet you, I guess... Mmm, where am I?" he answered and asked at the same time.
"What a strange name, it looks like that of a half-human, and your clothes are equally peculiar," said the girl.
"I've certainly never heard a name like that before, although that should confirm it," Ross commented.
Semi-human?" asked Kaito in a whisper, after all it was a word he was familiar with, and continued, "Aren't you going to tell me what's going on?"
Both siblings looked at each other, but soon Beatrice turned her gaze to Kaito.
"To put it simply, you were summoned to another world... For us," Beatrice confessed with her eyes closed and a bit smiling.
"Wait! What? What do you mean, another world? Is this a joke? No, of course it has to be a joke," he asked incredulously with a frantic laugh.
"I'm serious," the girl answered seriously and without hesitation with a sincere look and continued," You are now in the 'Rising Forest" near the kingdom of Neveral."
The boy stood up quickly from the bed straight to the door, grabbing the handle and hesitating for a moment whether to open it or not, finally he decided to go out and the first thing he would see would be a snowy forest.
"Is it serious?" he asked as he saw a white rabbit with eyes of a deep, fantastic blue passing meters in front of him.
"A snow rabbit," said Beatrice and added," they say that seeing one is a good sign."
Despite hearing such madness, he didn't doubt it, seeing such scenery and remembering that he had just been at his school and had seen a dark specter behind Scarlet, he was sure it wasn't a dream.
"It's hard to believe, but now that you say it...."
"You seem to have a lot of energy, but at the same time you look agitated," Ross commented.
"Agitated...? Ah," Kaito asked just as a severe headache brought him to his knees.
"Are you all right?" exclaimed Beatrice, worried about the boy.
"I'm fine, I shouldn't have gotten up so suddenly."
Kaito on the ground stared at the snow around him and thought, as he touched his hands to the ground, "It's just like over there, despite all this snow, I'm not cold, in fact, I'm sure it's the same snow".
"And why was I brought here?"
"You were summoned to fulfill a prophecy," said Ross, closing his eyes.
"A prophecy?"
"Yes, one of the four to end the corrupted magic," said the blond boy and continued, "I know you must have many questions, as well as doubts, however, I'd rather talk to you about your current situation.
Ross stared at the summoned boy who was still on the ground, unable to stand up.
"Later Beatrice will tell you about the prophecies, for now that can wait."
"And what's so important?" Kaito finally stood up.
"In this world magic is everything, magic dominates everything, however," he said adding a bit of suspense and finished," You don't possess a shred of magic."
"The truth is not surprising coming from a world without magic."
"A world without magic? I thought it would bother you if we mentioned it," Beatrice confessed with both hands behind her back.
"I don't mind, though I can't deny it's a little disappointing."
Such disappointment made sense, after all the use of magic ironically is the fantasy of every young teenager, especially in fanatics like him.
"Ah... Well don't worry, because I don't have magic either!" she confessed smiling and pointing her finger at herself.
"You don't have any?"
"However, your situation is different from my sister's," Ross said, placing a hand on Kaito's left shoulder.
"What do you mean?"
"My sister wasn't summoned to fulfill an objective, your lack is more significant, not only that, I can tell you're weak and lazy just by looking at you," commented Ross in a haughty and very direct way, although his deduction was correct and Kaito was more than aware of that fact.
"You saying it with that tone bothers me a little."
"Listen carefully! What I'm about to ask you is really important."
Generating a tense moment, the boy from another world looked the twin directly in the eyes, the sister stood next to her brother and in that instant the only thing that could be heard were the light blowing of the wind, and the fall of the snow that accumulated on the leaves of the trees.
"You have two choices, either you stay with us or you stay alone, what will you do?" Ross asked.
Despite the question, Kaito didn't look all that surprised, perhaps because he expected it or perhaps because the answer was obvious. However, the boy's mind would be flooded with a thought as he moved the snow with his feet: "A necessary question, with an obvious answer Why would I choose to stay alone, in a world I don't know, and how would I get back? Or rather why would I return? Even if I have been summoned against my will, or, even if I don't want to stay, is there anything to tie me to my home? The only answer to that question would be "my mother". However, I could only limit myself to finding out, no... directly I don't know how I can go back, so..."
"I'm staying with you..."
