The twin smiled and the brother seemed somewhat relieved to hear her quick and sincere answer without further ado.
"Let's change scenery," said the twin, raising his right hand.
Slowly a golden glow began to generate and began to spiral, which gave shape to something that appeared to be a portal. Such an act amazed Kaito.
"Magic," he whispered in wonder as the light from the portal reflected in his dark eyes.
"Beatrice, you will go through another portal," he said looking at his sister.
"Wait, wait, wait, where are they going!" asked the twin, grabbing Ross's left arm tightly.
"I'm just going to talk to him somewhere else," replied the brother, looking away to his right.
"I know you're lying to me! You're going to take him to that place, aren't you?" cried Beatrice and added in a very childish way," You know I can't always go there! I can't use magic!"
"But then you'll leave us alone, won't you?" he agreed irritated, because of his sister's tantrums.
"Okay!" he nodded happily and with both arms behind his back.
In spite of the drama staged by the girl with the pigtails, Kaito was still absorbed and amazed, observing the portal with curiosity.
"What is your magic? What kind of rules does it follow?"
"It's dimensional magic, pure inheritance magic of our lineage and the reason for our social status," Ross clarified and continued," Obviously I won't explain to you how it works, only an idiot would reveal its secrets."
Despite the somewhat haughty comment with a somewhat radical opinion, Kaito didn't mind, in fact, he didn't even question it.
"Well, the truth makes sense," he said as he stretched, preparing to go through the portal.
"Aren't you going in?"
"Yes, sorry, I was just warming up," he said as he took a gentle jog towards the portal.
Standing in front of the dimensional door and with the yellow glow illuminating him, the boy felt that this would be the deciding step between staying or going back.
"It's the first time I'm going to have contact with magic."
At that sentence, Ross said nothing and simply closed his eyes and waited patiently for the boy.
Kaito brought his left hand close to the portal to the point of stepping through it and thought, unable to remove his amazement, "What a different feeling."
The boy finally took a breath, closed his eyes and stepped through the portal slowly opening his eyes with a fluttering heart, as the sunlight mowed him down he visualized the great view from above, through his mind would sound the bagpipes that would introduce him to this fantastic new world that calmed his throbbing.
"These are the best views of Neveral," said the twin who had already crossed the portal with his sister.
"I know I shouldn't say it, but this is the first time I've ever been glad to get out of my room."
"You're lucky, it's especially clear today," Beatrice commented.
"Where are we?"
"We're in the southeast part of the country," Ross reported.
"I've never seen anything like this before."
From there Kaito could see a field, a tower, some houses that seemed to be the size of a shoe, and several trees on the sides and in the background.
"Kaito! Kaito! "Look! Look!" Beatrice pointed her finger a little energetically at the woods in the background, that's where we live with my brother!"
"It seems to be quite far away," commented Kaito visualizing that pile of trees.
"I thought this would be the best way to show you a small part of the country."
"I have to admit I'm quite surprised."
"Beyond the northern forests lies the Blood Archipelago, though it would take you days to walk there.
"This is our home! One of the three countries of the Sun, Neveral!" said Beatrice posing almost on the edge of the cliff and holding her hair against the wind.
At such a view of the landscape and Beatrice ahead, the boy just thought "Wow, this would make a magazine photo, I wish I had a camera".
"Beatrice, you're so close to the edge and you have to go," Ross told her."
"But we just got here! Can't I stay a little longer?"
"Where's your enthusiasm for doing your duty? You have to go and fulfill your role as a guide."
"All right," Beatrice agreed a little sadly.
Then, the twin opened a portal for his sister again and she said goodbye to Kaito before leaving.
Once the twin was gone, Ross turned to look at Kaito silently for a moment.
"Is something wrong?"
"I was just thinking about how to deal with you," Ross commented.
"I'm not going to do anything to hurt them."
"Just because you're the chosen of a prophecy doesn't mean I can't doubt you."
The summoned boy did not respond to that, he simply remained silent and looked away a little to continue visualizing the landscape.
"In this world, there is not only magic."
"What do you mean?"
"There is something else, something you possess, known as "Blessing"," Ross said with his eyes closed and continued, "I'll be brief, you possess an anomalous Blessing called "Deja Vu".
"Deja Vu? How do you know I have that? And what do you mean by anomalous?"
"To be very honest with you, I don't know much about blessings, so I can't answer all your questions, but the person who detected your ability while you were passed out is in our residence, a very skilled healing mage with unique abilities."
"While you were unconscious?!" he asked uneasily as he felt a strange tingling all over his body" "So, is this someone I'm going to meet?"
"Yes, soon."
Ross looked at the scenery.
"Deja Vu is a blessing with the ability to predict, it makes you feel like you've experienced every moment before, that stimulus gives you the ability to react a little earlier than everyone else."
"Now that you say it... I usually feel that."
"However, the anomalous blessings usually hide more things, I mean we don't know more," Ross said and added," "it is possible that in time you will feel different effects."
The twin during the conversation looked at the sky several times as if he was waiting for something, of course Kaito noticed that.
"I've seen you look at the sky several times, is something wrong?"
"Wait a moment, it's coming."
The boy stood confused looking at the young man with blue eyes, when suddenly in front of his nose snow started to fall.
"Snow? Again? I'll never get rid of it, it seems to be chasing me," said Kaito with some amusement.
"That's just it."
"Ah?"
"That's just what you said."
"I don't think I'm understanding you."
"Winter Requiem", that's your curse, the snow will haunt you no matter where you are, no matter where you go or what you do, it will always find you."
While on the ground snow began to accumulate, and although the twin did not perceive it in his expression, Kaito remembered startled when he looked out of the living room window to watch the snow fall while listening to the news on the radio: "The snow has generated multiple accidents", "The death rate increased this winter", "We ask you not to leave your homes".
"Although we believe that if you stay calm, the snow may eventually stop," said Ross, who failed to catch the boy's attention.
In between recollections, he saw several unclear images of a little girl crying on a snowy ground, tinged with red.
"Hey, are you listening to me? Hey!"
The boy's attention was completely lost, his memories flooding him deeply.
"React!" Ross said as he shook the boy and brought him back to his senses.
"Ross... I'm sorry, it just reminded me of some things."
"Don't blame yourself."
"Ah?"
"Whatever happened, it's not your fault, you never asked to be cursed, I don't understand how you feel, but try to forget it."
"Don't worry, I just got lost in my memories. Besides, the snow has not only given me bad times."
"You seem to be used to it."
"I used to play in the snow a lot, so I'm used to it, even though I've been cooped up at home for the last year.
"I understand," said the twin, as he closed his eyes and continued," Seeing you like this makes it hard for me to threaten you now."
"Threaten me? What do you mean?" he said, confused.
"For my sister's sake, I was planning to intimidate you."
Despite Ross's confession, he thought that was a more than logical reason to do that, because maybe he would do the same in her place.
"Well, getting back to the point, there is a way you can use magic even without possessing it, so that you can accomplish your goal here.
"You mean the goal that was imposed on me," he thought and asked with an ironic tone," What way?"
"There are magical weapons and artifacts, which allow the use of magic. However, most of those artifacts are to supplement or are weak in and of themselves, so...."
"That's why?"
"That's why you will be given the opportunity to obtain a legendary artifact. However, let me warn you that the likelihood of any of them accepting you is low, so be prepared."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that, in a way, the artifact is the one who has to choose you."
"That all sounds very complicated," said Kaito scratching his head. He immediately watched as the twin changed his expression in accordance with what he would ask of him.
"Please protect my sister's peace," said the twin with great sincerity in his eyes.
V
Kaito and Ross were once again standing next to Beatrice, but in a bright golden room that emanated a great amount of light that clearly came from magic. In that place there was a great number of weapons, objects such as rings and books, most of them floating and despite not having magic he could feel that each one of them was brimming with great power.
"Hello Kaito!" greeted Beatrice.
"What is this place?" asked Kaito looking at the ceiling that seemed unreachable.
"This place..." said Ross.
"This place is where you will find the power you need!" said Beatrice and continued raising both arms, "Welcome to the sacred hall!"
The boy was stunned by such a spectacle, the huge place brimming with power made him swallow saliva and then smile with a bead of sweat.
"Now I feel like I'm in Valhalla."
"Do you believe in those things?" Ross asked, walking past him.
"It's ironic that you should say so, but no, I don't," he said, trying to hide his excitement.
All this made him feel...
"EUPHORIC"
