Chapter 6 - 6

Mark leaned against the cold wall, the rustling noise of the radio equipment accompanied his heavy breathing. The wind and snow outside the window seemed to be gradually weakening, but the cold in the tower was still biting. He felt his consciousness began to blur under the dual invasion of fatigue and cold, but the desire to survive deep in his heart made him struggle to stay awake.

The lights in the control room flickered, as if they could go out at any time. Mark looked up at the lights, and a sense of uneasiness surged in his heart. He knew that if the lights went out, he would fall into complete darkness, which would greatly increase the difficulty of rescue.

He forced himself to stand up and began to look for items that might be useful in the control room. He remembered that before the plane crash, he had seen some information about polar survival, which mentioned that in extreme environments, any tiny resource could be the key to survival.

The control room was not large, but it was filled with various equipment and sundries. Mark searched carefully, his fingers sliding on the cold metal and plastic until he touched a hard box. He pulled the box open with force and found some old radio equipment parts and some sealed document bags inside.

Mark picked up a file bag and tore open the seal. Inside was a stack of yellowed documents. He flipped through them casually and suddenly found the words "Polar Biological Research" on one of the documents. He was moved and remembered the huge skeleton found in the ice cave.

He read the document carefully. The document mentioned a creature called "Ice Abyss Beast", an ancient creature living deep in the polar regions, with extremely strong survival ability and aggressiveness. The document also mentioned that this creature may wake up under certain environmental stimulation, posing a great threat.

A chill surged in Mark's heart, and he realized that he might not be the only creature in trouble on this ice field. He continued to flip through the documents, hoping to find more information about this creature and how to deal with them.

Just then, the lights in the control room suddenly went out, and the room fell into darkness. Mark was startled. He fumbled to find a flashlight and turned it on. A weak beam of light illuminated a corner of the control room.

He knew that he had to adapt to this dark environment as soon as possible, otherwise he might make wrong decisions because of panic before rescue arrived. He took a deep breath and tried to calm himself.

Suddenly, the voice of the scientific expedition team came from the radio: "Mr. Mark, our rescue helicopter has set off and is expected to arrive at your location within an hour. Please keep the radio open and be prepared for rescue."

Mark breathed a sigh of relief and responded: "Got it, I'll wait here. Thank you."

He turned off the flashlight, trying to save the battery, and then sat back at the console and continued to look through the files, hoping to find some useful information. He knew that even if rescue was coming, he couldn't let his guard down. There were too many unknown dangers hidden in this ice field, and he had to be fully prepared.

As time passed, Mark felt his eyelids getting heavier and heavier. He tried to resist sleepiness, but his physical fatigue made it difficult for him to stay awake. He knew that he couldn't fall asleep here, and he had to stay awake until rescue arrived.

Just then, he heard a strange sound. The sound was very faint, almost covered by the sound of wind and snow, but he still caught it. It was a low, regular knocking sound, as if someone was knocking on something outside the control room.

Mark's heart beat suddenly, he stood up and approached the door carefully. He clenched the multi-purpose tool knife in his hand, ready to deal with any situation that might arise.

The knocking sound became clearer and more urgent. Mark took a deep breath, he knew that he had to open the door and see what was outside.

He slowly opened the door, and a cold wind mixed with snowflakes blew in his face. He shone the flashlight out, and the light was particularly weak in the wind and snow. However, at this moment, he saw a scene that made him unbelievable.

At the bottom of the radio tower, a group of huge creatures were surrounding the tower base. Their bodies were covered with thick scales and their heads had sharp horns, which were surprisingly similar to the skeletons he found in the ice cave. These creatures were knocking on the tower base with their huge claws, as if they wanted to climb up.

A fear surged in Mark's heart, and he realized that these might be the "ice abyss beasts" mentioned in the document. He quickly closed the door and used his body to hold it up, trying to prevent these creatures from entering the control room.

He knew that he had to notify the scientific expedition team as soon as possible and tell them what was going on here. He rushed back to the control console, turned on the radio, and anxiously called the expedition team.

"Expedition team, expedition team, this is Mark Westwood! I have an emergency here. I found a group of unknown creatures, and they are trying to climb the radio tower!"

The expedition team responded from the radio: "Mr. Mark, please stay calm. We will notify the rescue helicopter immediately and let them get ready. Please tell us the specific characteristics of these creatures."

Mark quickly described the characteristics of these creatures, and his voice was full of tension and fear. He knew that the appearance of these creatures might bring great difficulties to the rescue operation and might even threaten the safety of the rescuers.

"Expedition team, these creatures are very huge, their bodies are covered with scales, and they have horns on their heads. They look very dangerous. They are trying to climb the radio tower, and I'm not sure if I can stop them."

"Mr. Mark, our rescue helicopter is approaching your location, and they will take necessary measures to deal with these creatures. Please stay hidden and don't risk contact with these creatures."

Mark held the radio tightly, and he knew that the only thing he could do now was to wait. He retreated to a corner of the control room and blocked the door with some sundries and equipment, hoping to temporarily prevent these creatures from entering.

He sat on the ground, his back against the wall, holding a multi-purpose tool knife in his hand. His eyes were fixed on the door, and his ears were carefully listening to the movements outside. The roar and knocking of the ice beast mixed with the sound of the wind and snow made his heart beat faster and faster.

Time seemed to become unusually slow, and every second seemed as long as an hour. Mark felt his nerves were stretched to the extreme, and he knew that he had to stay calm until the rescue arrived.

Finally, he heard the roar of the helicopter. The sound was getting closer and closer, and then suddenly stopped. Mark knew that the rescuers had reached the bottom of the radio tower.

He stood up and approached the door carefully, ready to meet the rescue. However, at this moment, he heard a more intense knocking sound, accompanied by the roar of the ice beast.

He was startled, and he realized that these creatures might have discovered the arrival of the helicopter, and they might be trying to attack the rescuers.

Mark took a deep breath, he knew that he couldn't sit and wait for death. He had to do something to help the rescuers get rid of the threat of these creatures.

He rushed back to the control console and began to operate the radio equipment, trying to interfere with the actions of the ice beasts. He knew that these creatures might be sensitive to radio signals, and he hoped to use this to distract them.

He adjusted the frequency of the radio equipment and began to send a series of chaotic signals. These signals formed a special interference wave in the air, hoping to confuse these creatures and prevent them from accurately judging the location of the helicopter.

At the same time, the rescuers on the helicopter also began to take action. They used high-pressure water guns and sonic weapons to try to disperse these ice beasts. The water flow of the water gun and the sound waves of the sonic weapons formed a line of defense in the wind and snow, effectively preventing these creatures from approaching.

Mark nervously observed the situation outside. He saw that the ice beasts began to become confused under the attack of sound waves and water flow. Their attack rhythm was disrupted and they could not effectively climb the radio tower.

He continued to operate the radio equipment and sent interference signals. He knew that he had to hold on until the rescuers could safely rescue him from the tower.

Finally, after a long wait and tense confrontation, the helicopter winch slowly extended from the window. Mark quickly grabbed the winch, and he felt his body being slowly lifted up and away from the radio tower.

He looked up at the helicopter and saw the rescuers waving at him. An indescribable gratitude and joy surged in his heart, and he knew that he was finally saved.

As the helicopter slowly rose, Mark looked back at the radio tower. The tower looked particularly lonely in the wind and snow, and the ice beasts were still wandering around the base of the tower, their eyes flashing with desire and anger for the unknown.
