Chapter 31
Justina
The mansion was silent that night, but my mind was anything but. Thoughts spinned restlessly, refusing to let me sleep. Ever since my powers had begun manifesting at an alarming rate, one question had plagued me, why hadn't Nora helped me? She had known about my abilities for years, yet she had done nothing but feed me half-truths and vague reassurances. It was bad enough that I get to experience betrayal but even when she has proven to be by side, I couldn't help shake the feeling that another betrayal was brewing.
I couldn't ignore it any longer.
Throwing on a robe, I slipped out of my room and made my way down the dimly lit hallways. The flickering candlelight cast long shadows against the walls, mirroring the storm brewing inside me. When I reached Nora's chambers, I didn't hesitate. I pushed open the heavy wooden door without knocking.
