Chapter 37 - Rules.

Bailey

"What do you want?" I ask Eli when we're away from other's eyes.

"You ran off earlier today without even giving me a chance to explain."

"You already said enough."

He shakes his head "I didn't. Will you just listen to me for a second, angel?"

"Stop calling me that." I scowl before letting out a sigh "Fine, I'm listening."

"I meant what I said about Maya being my longest friend." I make a move to leave but he grabs my arm "But I would never choose her over you or the baby."

I blink "What does that mean?"

He steps closer to me and nudges my chin up to look at him "That means I do want to marry you and keep both of you safe."

My eyes narrow "But?"

He nods "But I won't feel at peace if Maya doesn't have her powers back."

I scoff "I don't understand the obsession, Eli. You also lost your powers but you seem okay."

"I am okay." He agrees "But Maya feels like she doesn't have purpose without her powers. I promise you that once she has her powers back I'll be done with her."

I raise an eyebrow "So I should just completely ignore the fact that you'll be stealing another student's powers?"

"This is all I ask of you, Bailey." He says softly as he leans his face closer to mine "She'll be out of our lives once she has what she wants."

I stare at him through slightly narrowed eyes and he holds my gaze, I do admit that I'll feel slightly better if I no longer have to see Maya anymore. "Will she leave Trinity?"

"Yes. She agreed to leave once I help her out."

"Did you tell her about me being pregnant?"

"No."

I nod "Alright, don't tell her and then do what you have to do but do not drag me into it."

"Understood." His eyes roam over my face "Now that that's out of the way, care to explain why you were at a party?"

I tilt my head slightly "I don't need to explain myself to you."

He lets out a growl "You're carrying my child so yes you do need to explain."

I glance around to make sure no one is around before turning to glare at him "You can't just go around saying things like that, Eli."

"Don't change the subject."

I roll my eyes "I wasn't drinking so you can relax."

"But you were dancing with other guys."

I narrow my eyes "How do you know that?"

"I was walking to my car and heard music coming from the hall so I took a peek inside." He shrugs "I had to do my job and let the dean know."

Wow, so he got pissy that I was dancing with that guy and now I have to do detention. "Right and were you doing your job when you knocked me up?"

Now it's his turn to narrow his eyes "Don't do that, Bailey." I look away from him and he gently cups my face to make me look at him again "Did you have time to think about what I suggested?"

I completely forgot that my days at Trinity are basically numbered and my best option of staying here is standing in front of me looking down at me like I'm the most beautiful girl in the world.

I know that's a lie though.

I clear my throat and nod "I have thought about it and I'm willing to marry you."

His eyes darken "Yeah?"

"Yeah. I do have rules though and I'm only doing this if you're willing to follow my rules."

He raises an eyebrow "I'm listening."

I raise my hand and with a flicker of my wrist, I use my powers to push him away from me "No touching."

He scoffs as he dusts off his clothes "How are we going to convince people we're married if we don't touch each other?"

I roll my eyes "Fine, no touching when it's just the two of us."

He nods "What else?"

"No sex." When his eyes narrow, I decide to take it a little further "As a matter of fact, let's make a no kissing rule too."

"That's absurd."

I shrug "You either go with it or not."

He lets out a low grumble before saying "Fine."

"Good." I smile sweetly "Last rule, you and Maya are not allowed to meet without me in the same room."

"And why is that?"

"Because I don't trust either of you, I need to make sure you don't plan to have me killed."

He scoffs "Fine, what other rules do you have for me?"

"That'll be all for now."

He nods "Alright well I'll have everything arranged and you can move into my apartment on campus."

I blink about a thousand times "Most certainly not. I'll stay in my dorm while you stay in yours."

He shakes his head "We've been over this, Bailey. People won't believe we're married if we don't act like it."

"They won't need to know we're married" I cross my arms over my chest "I was thinking we just keep it a secret until I start showing."

"That's not a good plan, here's vampire's on campus and they can easily hear another heartbeat coming from you."

I hate that he's this older man who knows everything, I kind of like it too. "Alright fine."

He smirks in victory "There we go, you can head inside now"

I roll my eyes "Goodnight."

"Goodnight, angel."

I have to stop myself from shivering at his deep low voice as he says the nickname before making my way inside but before I walk in, I glance over my shoulder to see him watching me intently and I get deja vu of that day when I tried kissing him in the shed and he walked me back to my dorm. That time when I looked over my shoulder, he stared back at me with a blank expression.

This time his stare is different, it's something deeper.
