Bailey
Today is not the best of days for me, I was extremely late to my class this morning because I had morning sickness but Eli was kind enough to let it slide. Him and I plan on getting married this Saturday and he said he'll have everything sorted but I told him I didn't want to have anything big and fancy. Another reason as to why today sucks is because I finally told my aunt that I'm pregnant and about the whole marriage situation which caused a whole argument between us and it ended with me crying for a while because I hate when we fight, my parents died when I was little so she's the only parent I've ever known. And the last reason as to why this today is not my favourite is because today is the first day of detention and I make my way to the library where it's being held and I'm a bit surprised to find Maya standing there while a few students are seated around the study tables.
"Miss Harper, welcome. Have a seat while we wait for the other students."
I nod before taking a seat and while we're waiting I use the time to really see her. I have always thought she's beautiful and knowing what she went through kind of makes me feel a bit bad for her. My magic and I may be at odds sometimes but I can't imagine ever being without it. I'm broken out of my thoughts when Liliana enters the library with two milkshakes and I raise my hand for her to see me, she smiles and makes her way over to me but stops short when Maya says "No food or beverages allowed in the library, Miss Queens."
Liliana looks like she's barely keeping herself from rolling her eyes "Fine, I'll just drink these outside then."
"I don't think so." Maya says "You already showed up late to detention so I won't excuse you to go outside again just to finish a milkshake."
"And what exactly am I supposed to do with it?"
She points to one of the tables at the front "Leave it there and you can have it once detention is over."
Liliana sighs but does what she asked before taking a seat next to me "What a bitch."
I gasp "Liliana! What if she heard you?"
"I hope she did." She says unbothered
I can't help but laugh "You're unbelievable."
"No you're unbelievable. That woman not only tried to steal your magic but she and the man who you thought liked you worked together to do it. I don't understand how you don't want both of them dead."
I frown "Well I'm not like you."
Now she's frowning too "What's that supposed to mean?"
"It's just that you're this savage girl who drinks blood and can rip people's hearts out and go about your day like nothing happened."
"Are you calling me a heartless bitch?"
My eyes widen "No, of course not. I'm just trying to say that you and I are completely different."
"And yet we're click." She nudges her shoulder against mine
I smile "Yeah. I guess the housing office did one thing right at least with pairing us as roommates."
"Oh definitely." She nods "The vampire and the witch. Although I must know if you can use your magic to make our milkshakes cold after detention, but answer carefully because your answer will determine the rest of our friendship."
I snort a laugh "I could definitely do that."
"Yes!" She wraps her arm around me for a side hug and I smile as her watermelon shampoo smell hits my nose.
The next three hours is spent with us just sitting around bored or doing homework and when detention is finally done, we all let out a sigh of relief. Maya opens her mouth to speak but everyone is already making their way out of the library doors and Liliana makes sure to snatch the milkshakes as well. Marcus heads to the back of the building to go smoke and Tyler heads to the cafeteria while Liliana and I make our way to our usual spot on the grass in the sun.
She holds the milkshake cups out to me "Do your thing, witch girl."
I make a show of dramatically waving my hands "Caliditatem huius bibentis frigus converte."
Her eyes widen "It worked!"
She thrusts one milkshake to me and I take it from her "Thank you." She nods and we drink our drinks for a while and I ask her "I haven't seen you and Marcus together of late."
"Yeah well I've finally come to terms that him and I are just not going to work."
I frown "And why is that?"
She sighs "Firstly Aurora will always be the one for him and secondly Eden pisses me off at every turn. I know Marcus cares about her and vice versa but I'm just over all the drama already. I want a guy that'll put me first always."
I nod "You deserve a guy who would give you the world, Lili."
She smiles and puts a hand on my shoulder "So do you."
I smile in return and pick up my phone when it dings with a text and I see it's from Eli 'Today is presentation preparation, why aren't you here?'
I scoff as I type back 'I just got back, I thought you'd give me at least a day off work.'
'You had two months off now get your ass in my office.'
I roll my eyes feeling a bit irritated but also grateful that he's not treating me different, I tell Liliana "I need to go help Eli with his presentation."
She frowns in confusion as I stand up and dust off my school skirt "What presentation?"
"The professors have this meeting with Mr Robinson to give ideas to upgrade the school or discuss what the students need or whatever."
"That's a thing? Well I'll be damned, you definitely know way more than other students."
I huff a laugh "Because it's my job as his assistant to know these things."
She hums "Keep telling yourself that, Bails."
I shake my head and wave goodbye before making my way to his office while drinking the last of my milkshake and I knock on the door, hearing his voice come from inside "Come inside."
I walk in and close the door behind me to find Eli sitting behind his desk "You summoned me."
"I did, have a seat."
I throw my cup in the bin before taking a seat opposite him "What do you need?"
He passes me his laptop "Go over those slides and let me know what you think."
"Alright." I read through it and my eyebrows shot up in surrender "Prom? Where on earth did you get that idea from?"
"Well you and the other students sneaking into the Assembly Hall made me realise that you guys never have anything fun to do here at Trinity." He nods to the laptop "What do you think?"
"I personally think it's a good idea but you know how the dean is. Allergic to fun."
He chuckles and I curse internally for wanting to smile "I still can't wrap my head around the fact that he's your father."
"Yeah me neither. Speaking of which, you haven't told anyone about that have you?"
"Come on, Bailey what do you take me for?"
I tilt my head slightly "Oh you don't want to know."
He grits his teeth "I guess I deserved that."
I rake a hand through my hair as I sigh, deciding to change the topic "I do think that prom is a good idea, I know the students would go crazy for it."
He nods "But do you think I could convince the dean to actually let it happen?"
I sit up straighter as an idea pops into my head "Send me your presentation and I'll make it convincing enough."
His eyes narrow "What are you going to do?"
I give my brightest smile "Just trust me."
His eyes soften as they roam over my face "Alright, I'll send it to you."
"Perfect."
