Eli
It's been almost two months since that whole fuck fest and Bailey is nowhere to be found. I swallowed my pride and went to her dorm but her roommates told me to go fuck myself which I deserve so I didn't call them out for being disrespectful. I went to the dean as a 'concerned professor' that she was missing out on school work but he just said to drop the work off by Liliana and she'll make sure Bailey gets it. It took everything in me to not punch Cory in his stupid face for rejecting her as his daughter.
You did the same thing.
A voice in the back of my mind says and I shake my head in disagreement, I never rejected her but betrayed? Yes. Every single day gets harder to live through without seeing her shiny hair, sparkling green eyes or that bright smile of hers. It's eating me alive knowing she's probably out there somewhere thinking I don't like her or worst of all, hate her. I could never hate her.
I'm broken out of my thoughts when Maya barge into my apartment on campus without so much as a knock and I refrain from throwing her out just as fast as she came in "What do you want?"
She raises her phone "Well I spoke to Bailey's aunt and she claims that she knows Bailey is not on campus."
My eyes narrow "Did she say where we can find her?"
"No but she mentioned Bailey staying with a friend."
"That can't be because her only friends are her roommates and she's definitely not on campus."
Maya shrugs and pours her a glass of water and I let out a sigh as we reach another dead end. Maya is trying to find Bailey so that she can finish what she started but me? I just want to make sure my girl is okay and explain everything to her.
"So I was thinking" Maya says as she turns to me "Perhaps we should find someone else"
I raise an eyebrow "I'm not following."
"We could find another witch and just take her magic, let's leave Bailey wherever she is."
My jaw clenches "No."
She tilts her head "No what?"
"To both of your suggestions. We are not going to try taking another witch's powers again. The first time we tried, someone died and the second time it cost me losing Bailey."
She stares at me for a moment before letting out a chuckle "You like her."
A statement not a question.
I clear my throat "So what if I do?"
She glares "You can't like her because you are mine."
I scoff "The only thing I am is regretful that I ever met you."
"Need I remind you that your father is the reason I'm powerless? That we both are?"
"I know, Maya but the difference between us is that I accepted the fact that I'm no longer a wizard."
Her eyes narrow "So you're saying that you like being a useless human?"
I almost groan at how wrong she is "I'm saying that I like being a professor and teaching others the knowledge I know without having powers."
"And that could never be me" she shrugs "I'll have my magic back one way or another."
Before I can even reply she walks out again and slam the door behind her, I clench my fist in frustration that she can't just stop and think about how she's hurting people
But hurt people hurt people I guess.
I'm broken out of my thoughts when my phone rings and a small smile makes it way to my face when I see the caller ID and immediately pick up "Little sis"
"I'm an adult now, Eli."
"It doesn't matter because you'll always be my little sister" I say and listen to Natalie's laugh through the phone before asking "Are you okay? How's med school?"
"Good and good. I'm actually calling to tell you that I'll be in town for the weekend, we could meet up."
"Definitely" I pause "Wait I thought you barely have free time on your hands?"
She sighs "I don't but my dad has a guest over who's unwell and apparently she doesn't do well with doctors. And he begged me to come check her out."
"Okay, I see. Well I'm free to meet up with you whenever you can squeeze me into your busy schedule" I say with a hint of amusement
"Yes. I just have to sneak behind dad's back again."
"I'm sure your knees is still strong enough to climb the tree" I say with a laugh "Send the details when you ready"
"Alright, hugs and kisses."
I chuckle "Bye."
The second the call ends, my smile vanishes. I do love my sister but I can't focus on anything other than Bailey right now.
Bailey
I'm pregnant.
I stare down at the two lines on the pregnancy test absolutely dumbfounded and I try to wrap my head around this.
Wait.
That night with Eli, I was supposed to take my birth control pill the next morning but I never even got a chance because I was so focused on leaving campus. And I haven't taken one since.
I startle at the knock on the door and Joey's voice comes through the door "You okay in there?"
I swallow before saying "All good."
"Well Natalie is here and she's ready to check up on you."
I cringe at the absolute fact that Eli's sister is going to do a check up and find out I'm pregnant but I still say "I'll be out in a second."
I hear his footsteps walk away as he heads down the stairs and I stare at myself in the mirror. I know that Joey is the most random person for me to be living with but it's honestly been good. I showed up on his doorstep with a night bag and told him I was going through a hard breakup with a ex who wants to kill me.
Half true.
And he let me in, made me a cup of tea with honey before showing me to his guest room and I've been staying here ever since. I've been feeling horrible lately and he wanted to take me to the hospital but I didn't want to risk anyone seeing me so I just said I hate hospitals and over professional doctors and next thing I know is he's telling me Natalie is going to come do a check up on me. I'm a little excited to meet her and I know she's probably an amazing person, because if she was willing to drop everything just to come do check up on a person she never met because her dad asked her to. That tells me everything I need to know about her.
I let out a heavy breath before splashing some cold water onto my face and I almost throw the pregnancy test in the bin but I rather use my magic to make it disappear into my drawer in the guest room and I make my way downstairs. I see Natalie listening intently to Joey as he talks about the neighbours cat that's been jumping over his fence but he pause when I enter and they both turn to me.
"Hi. You must be Natalie, I'm Bailey."
She smiles as she holds out a hand to me "Nice to meet you, Bailey."
I shake her hand with a small smile "I could say the same. Thank you for coming all this way to do this."
She waves her hand dismissively "It's fine really, my father mentioned you leaving a toxic ex behind, how are you holding up?"
I nod "Good, thank you." Lie.
"Alright then. Why don't you lay down on the couch and I'll check your blood pressure then draw some blood to see what the issue is okay?"
My palms start sweating and I glance at Joey who's waiting for me to lie down "Oh do you want me to leave?"
"If you don't mind please, Joe."
"No problem at all, I'll be in the backyard and call me if you need me."
I nod and watch as he goes before turning to Natalie "I'm pregnant"
Her eyes widen "Oh my…congratulations." She pause and raises an eyebrow "Wait, I take it you didn't know and hence the check up."
I nod with a sigh "I found out like five minutes ago."
"I see." She gestures for me to take a seat and I do, while she sits down next to me "And do you plan to keep it?"
"Yes. No" I shake my head "I mean I don't know."
"That's okay, you don't need to know right now but you should do what's best for you." She says gently "Having a baby while you're not in the right capacity could be harmful to your mental and physical health."
"I know" I say softly
"But if you do plan to keep the baby then I'm sure you'll be the absolute best mom."
I smile "You met me a minute ago."
"And I could tell you are a kind soul, trust me I have good instincts when it comes to people."
I let out a laugh and she smiles as she puts her hand on mine, my eyes catch on the infinity tattoo on her wrist.
The exact same one Tyler has.
Mmm, seems like it is the same Natalie after all.
