Chapter 7 - The Moonlit Garden

The night was like a huge piece of black satin, gently enveloping the entire city. The twinkling stars were like brilliant gems inlaid on this satin, shining with a mysterious and charming light. And that bright moon, just like a gentle fairy, spilled its silvery radiance, dyeing every corner of the city with a dreamy hue.

After having dinner, Evelyn thought that the moonlight was so beautiful tonight that she decided to go for a walk in the nearby garden. She changed into a light purple long dress. The material of the dress was lightweight, and as she walked, the hem of the dress fluttered with the wind, as if she were an elf shuttling through the night. She let her hair down, and the smooth strands fell on her shoulders, shining with a soft luster under the moonlight, which made her face look even more serene and beautiful.

The garden was not far from Evelyn's residence. In a short while, she arrived at the entrance of the garden. It was a garden full of European charm. The iron gate was entwined with green vines, and there were a few small unnamed flowers blooming sporadically on the vines, emitting a faint delicate fragrance. Evelyn gently pushed the gate open, and the gate hinge made a slight "creak" sound, as if welcoming her arrival.

Walking into the garden, a winding pebble path came into view. On both sides of the path were planted all kinds of flowers, including the glamorous roses, the elegant daisies, and the fragrant jasmines. They stretched their postures under the moonlight, seeming to compete with each other in beauty or whispering softly, telling the stories that belonged to the night. Occasionally, there were a few butterflies dancing gracefully among the flower beds. Their wings shimmered with a faint light under the moonlight, adding a touch of liveliness to this quiet garden.

Evelyn walked slowly along the path, breathing in the fresh air mixed with the fragrance of the flowers, and was in an especially pleasant mood. Sometimes she stopped to bend down and gently sniff the fragrance of the flowers, and sometimes she looked up at the vast starry sky, immersing herself in this beautiful night, as if all her troubles had been thrown to the winds.

On the other side, Lucas was in his residence, looking out of the window at the bright moonlight. Somehow, Evelyn's face suddenly popped up in his mind, her sweet smile and lively eyes, as if there was an invisible force pulling him, making him involuntarily want to go out to look for her. He changed into a black casual jacket, paired with a white shirt inside, and the collar was slightly open, looking casual and dashing. After a simple tidying up, he went out, and his steps unconsciously led him towards the places where Evelyn often went.

When Lucas came near the garden, he saw that familiar figure from a distance. The moonlight shone on Evelyn, outlining a beautiful silhouette for her. Lucas's heart couldn't help but tremble. He lightened his steps and slowly walked into the garden, not wanting to disturb Evelyn who was immersed in her own world.

Evelyn was standing in front of a rose bush, with her eyes slightly closed, feeling the rich fragrance of the roses, and a contented smile on her lips. Lucas walked to a short distance behind her and said softly, "What a beautiful moonlight, what beautiful flowers, and... what a beautiful you."

Evelyn was startled by the sudden voice. She turned around abruptly. When she saw that it was Lucas, she was first stunned, and then a surprised smile appeared on her face. She said, "Lucas, why are you here? You scared me."

Lucas walked closer to her with a smile, his eyes full of tenderness, and said, "I was looking at the moonlight at home and thought of going out for a walk. I didn't expect such a coincidence that I could meet you here." Evelyn tilted her head slightly and looked at him, with a hint of suspicion yet also a bit of delight in her eyes, and teased, "Is it really just a coincidence? I somehow feel that you seem to have come to look for me on purpose."

Lucas felt a bit embarrassed when she said that. He scratched his head and said with a smile, "You've seen through me. Actually... I did think that maybe I could run into you here, so I came to try my luck. It seems that my luck is quite good."

Evelyn's face flushed slightly. She chided gently, "You, always saying nice things." Then, she looked at the rose bush again and changed the topic, saying, "Look at these roses. Don't they look especially beautiful under the moonlight? They seem to have a bit more mysterious charm than in the daytime."

Lucas followed her gaze and nodded in agreement, saying, "Indeed. The moonlight has endowed them with a different kind of beauty, just like dressing them in a dreamy veil. However, in my opinion, no matter how beautiful they are, they can't compare to you in front of me." His gaze remained fixed on Evelyn's face. That sincere and affectionate look made ripples spread across Evelyn's heart. Her heart beat faster involuntarily, and the blush on her face deepened a little.

The two of them just stood quietly in front of the rose bush, bathed in the moonlight. Everything around them seemed to have become their backdrop. It seemed that the whole world only left the sound of each other's breathing and the gentle blowing of the breeze. After a while, Lucas stretched out his hand, gently picked a rose, carefully removed the thorns, and handed it to Evelyn, saying, "This rose is for you. I hope you can always bloom beautifully like it."

Evelyn looked at the rose in front of her and then looked up at Lucas, with her eyes full of emotion. She took the rose and said softly, "Thank you, Lucas. This is the most special gift I've ever received." She brought the rose close to her nose and sniffed the fragrant aroma. At that moment, she felt as if she were the happiest person in the world. And the emotions between her and Lucas also quietly sprouted under the moonlight and among the flower beds, just like the tender green shoots that had just broken through the soil, full of vitality and hope.

They continued to stroll along the paths of the garden, chatting about the flowers and plants in the garden from time to time and sharing interesting stories in life.
