Chapter 2 - Chapter Two

KEANA

The weather was cold, the clouds took over from the sun as the earth grew darker.

I am being led into a cell, as the leader had interrupted, the intimidating man that was assigned to lead me to the cell was nothing but troublesome and taunting.

The door to the dark cell clanked open, and I was shoved inside, amidst my struggling, the silver that was tied to my wrist was doing a great job of keeping my wolf at bay.

I crawled to the corner of the cold floor, shedding hot tears at the betrayal of my uncle.

Ryan is what I will call him now…

"Don't waste your tears," a soft voice startled me out of my little world of sorrow. I squinted my eyes and then I caught the small frame of a human lying across me on the floor around the corner facing mine.

"Who are you?" I sniffed in the tear, wiping my eyes softly.

How did I not notice her, she must have a superpower.

"I've waited long enough for you" she spoke again in riddle.

"What do you mean?" I asked, my tone curious.

Who is this woman?

"I am a witch, captured by my stepfather and sold"

Interesting, I thought.

"Yeah it is"

Would I be intrusive if I asked her why?

"No, you won't"

"Wait…wh…" I gasped at the realization.

"How do you know…?"

"Because I can read minds" she answered immediately.

"Oh… what's your name?"

"Dunya"

"How did you know I was coming?

"Just random revelations, telling me I will soon have a flatmate" sarcasm laced in her voice.

I relaxed a little, knowing I wasn't the only one in this.

"Get ready Keana, tomorrow is a big day for us all"

The loud clank of the cell door opening shook me awake, as before I could adjust to a new figure entering the room, I was dragged up and shoved into the waiting hand of another person while the person moved to Dunya's corner and dragged her up too.

"What's going on?" I whispered to her

"We are going to the slave market"

"What?" Before I could ask another question, we were being pushed outside along with several more people I hadn't seen from different cells.

The legendary silver on their arms probably stopped them from using their power.

The sun hung low casting a subtle glow over the noisy marketplace. Cobblestones, slick with mud and refuse, lay unevenly beneath the shuffling feet of the gathered goods.

Vendors shouted their wares from crude wooden stalls, hawking everything from fresh produce to hand-forged weapons. Yet, one corner of the square held a darker part: the slave auction.

The crowd was thick here, an assembly of lords, merchants, peasants, and thieves, each struggling for a better view of the auction. The air was heavy with the scent of sweat and desperation.

I looked to the side and noticed a beautiful brunette woman looking at me, she then waved at me, even with the bound on her arm.

Who was this woman?

"Dunya," she replied, smiling sheepishly, and I immediately recognized the voice from yesterday.

"Oh," I realized, and then I waved back.

She was indeed a gorgeous woman, with dark green eyes and a slender face. I didn't get a chance to see her face yesterday because of the dark cell.

A blonde auctioneer, his voice a booming presence above the din, called out the next lot. "Behold! A rare gem, strong of body and fair of face!" He gestured to a young woman being led forward. Her wrists were bound with a rough rope, and her once fine clothes were tattered.

She was auctioned out and so were many others, then it was Dunya's turn,

"Do I hear thirty gold pieces?" the auctioneer bellowed. "Thirty pieces for this fine specimen!"

A murmur ran through the crowd, heads nodding as bids were made. Hands shot up, the auctioneer almost declaring her sold to the old merchant when another person chided in.

"Fifty pieces!" shouted a voice from the black.

"Sold" she was declared.

It was getting late, and the people in the market were already leaving; the sun was hiding behind the clouds, and the slave seller's leader ordered the boys to pack the remaining slaves who weren't sold today against the next market day.

We were being shoved into a large trolley-like equipment with chains attached to our legs and the whip landed on the skin of the sluggish ones.

We were all loaded in it and ready to move when a group of intimidating-looking men rode in on their horse, the leader of the group immediately alighting and making his way towards the slave seller's leader.

"We want to buy," he said matter of factly, his tone leaving no room for questioning.

His expression was dark, his tall frame towering over that of the slave seller's leader.

"Now," he ordered, and like a remote control, they started offloading us.

They picked three girls out including Dunya, offering fifty gold pieces for each of them and then moving to leave not until one of them shouted.

"Alpha Raven wants four slaves Walter"

And with that Walter marched back to the remaining slaves, including me.

He moved up and down the line as if contemplating which slave would be

Beneficial.

"You come with me." The whole place grew quiet. Everyone looked around, trying to figure out who he was talking to.

"You"
