Chapter 24 - To avoid

Upon seeing what was happening Crevan's eyes widened, he already knew what was going to happen but, at the time there was nothing that he could do to stop it, without making the situation a lot worse for Nova, than it already was.

Nova's eyes glowed as he felt the man's presence invading his space and a few of his memories since coming to Etarion, flashed before his eyes and he gritted his teeth, realizing the man was capable of seeing the memories of others and that was not a good thing for him, he knew he could not let him see certain things or that would mean more trouble.

He took a deep breath as his eyes glowed brighter and he tried to regain control of his mind so that the man would see what he wanted him to see and not the other way around, though Nova could feel the pressure on him, trying to suppress his mind.

Crevan glanced between the two and his eyes narrowed, he wanted to help Nova, but one wrong move could make everything go wrong and he could not risk that, not for himself but for Nova.

Nova took a deep breath and calmed his mind as he focused on his surroundings as well as a few of his memories, ones that reacted particularly strongly.

Crevan noticed the subtle shift in the air around them in the room, which was now overwhelmed by the man as well as Nova's aura. While going through his memories, the man's eyes narrowed, as he was not finding anything suspicious so far or anything that led to Nova being involved in the incident earlier.

He wondered why he could not dig deeper and to avoid any risks, he reluctantly stepped away from Nova and his eyes stopped glowing, as he looked at the young man carefully, his gaze scrutinizing him.

He looked up and met the man's gaze with an unwavering one of his own, one that was quite convincing in their eyes and the man's eyes narrowed, before he turned to Crevan, who was just sitting there and watching intently, as though he was enjoying a show.

"Did you teach him to block my ability?" The man asked, his tone slightly accusing and Crevan looked up, meeting his gaze head-on, since he did not like being blamed for things that he had not done in the first place.

"I am not that powerful, do not accuse me of anything, I did not teach him and there is no need for me to teach him anything like that either because he has nothing to hide," Crevan responded, his tone firm, leaving no room for doubt in his words, they both had to act like there was nothing they were hiding or wrong.

"Is that so? Well, you may be pleased to know I did not find anything suspicious around him, if there was, I would have probably seen it in his memories," He said, in a contemplative tone.

Crevan glanced at Nova, who was sitting there eerily calm, which made him wonder how Nova managed to hide anything from the man, the one who was known to see through the tiniest bit of lie, was being lied to and he had no idea.

The situation was almost laughable to Crevan, however, he kept his composure since he did not want Nova to get on the man's suspicion list or that would not be good and it would interfere with a lot of things.

"You are right, now he came here for a reason after only completing his trials yesterday, we need to meet with the elder, one of them at least and now because of you guys we are going to be late," Crevan said and the man sighed.

"Well, I know that, but I also had a job to do, which was what I was doing for your kind information, I did not mean to...." He said, with an annoyed grunt.

Crevan glanced at him, seeing that he lost his composure, which was rare for a man like him, who maintained an air of superiority and confidence, now looking conflicted, it was almost laughable.

"Yes, yes I know what you are implying, I know how dangerous the one that escaped their custody is but you have to realize that Nova only just awakened, he is still learning and there are a lot of things that he just cannot do," Crevan replied and the man sighed, passing his finger through his hair, looking frustrated.

"You are right, I should not have done that either, but do not think this is finished, in the meantime, he is one of our suspects and I do hope you know that as long as he is, he cannot leave this city without permission from higher authority," He said and Nova's eyes twitched in irritation, when he heard that.

"Seriously?" Nova asked, as he glanced at the man, whose eyes narrowed.

"Yes, seriously, this is a precaution and a step that is necessary, if you do not want to be detained here, I suggest you take my advice and follow protocol," He suggested and Crevan glanced at Nova, who seemed to be lost in his own thoughts.

"Fine, I will follow protocols, and next time, I will not tolerate anyone peeking into my memories without permission," Nova said, his tone firm yet respectful as he stood up, meeting the man's gaze.

He was slightly taken aback by Nova's change in demeanor, however,r he knew what he did was not exactly the first set of rules during an investigation, it was just a shorter way of getting to the truth. He did not appreciate being corrected by someone younger than him, but he had to let go of his pride and ego for once.

"I will keep that in mind, my apologies for my hasty method, I was not think straight," The man apologized reluctantly, with his fists clenched by his sides and Crevan's eyes widened since that was a sight, no one had seen ever since he began working for the order.
