Kira's POV
"You think you can just come here and reap from where you do not sow, how dare you," Mara said
I woke up the next morning to the warm greetings of the sun rays shining through my windows. The past few days had Been quite peaceful, though not completely peaceful.
But I was grateful; what I had here, I didn't have even just a little of it back there at Asha's pack.
Though the wolves here were good to me, there were still some shallow-minded wolves who felt like I was not welcome here; they felt like I had come to reap from where I didn't sow.
Sincerely, I couldn't blame them because, in a way, I felt like I didn't have a right to the peace I was enjoying, a right to this mini house I was staying and a right to even be close to the alpha.
Yes, Ryker had been coming to check on my well-being constantly; if he didn't come himself, he sends Marcus. I later found out that Marcus was his beta.
Mara was one of the people who felt like I wasn't meant to be here; she was one of the people who never ceases to let me know how disgusting they think I am.
They took it upon themselves to remind me that I didn't belong to their pack and I would never become one of them.
This has been going on for a few days now, but I had Been keeping quiet; sometimes Mara would come around with some of her friends just to ridicule me or spite me.
"Mara I am tired of all this behaviour of yours," I said
She laughed ominously "Tired? How dare you raise your voice at me you low-life bitch"
"Mara, I understand you are angry that someone like me came from nowhere, and I am being favoured by the alpha... I know how it feels but I assure you there's nothing to be worried about."
"Oh no, my dear!" She scoffed. "I am not worried about you; besides, there's nothing worth getting worried about concerning you."
"Then why have you been tormenting me all this while."
"That's simply because I hate you." Mara chuckled
I watched as Mara walked out of my presence laughing hysterically
"We will meet again bitch" she yelled
I went back In to lie and gather my thoughts.
*******
"Damn I missed it," I said
"Calm down, Kira; you have to make sure your senses are alert," Emilia said
"How do you expect me to make my senses alert when I don't even feel my wolf yet," I said my voice suggesting frustration
"Look, Kira, you don't have to be a wolf to be able to make sure your senses are alert so you can easily catch your prey," Emilia said placing her hands on my shoulder.
"But how do I...."
"Shh, Kira, listen to me... humans hunt as well; how do you think they hunt?"
"They focus I guess," I replied unenthusiastically
"That's all you need; even as wolves, we still need focus to be able to concentrate and catch down our prey," Emilia said
I had been secretly training in a forest not too far from Ryker's pack with Emilia. She had been helping me out in archery.
I started my archery lessons when I began to get a kind of weird vibe from Mara and her friends and a few other people. I felt like I might be attacked soon; I needed to be able to defend myself.
Hence why, I met Emilia; she decided to train me in archery so I could save myself. We've been doing this for a while now.
Emilia looked at her wristwatch. "Oh, I am sorry, Kira, I have to go back to the pack now; I have a patient to treat." She came closer to me and gave me a hug
"What's wrong is everything okay," I asked
"Yes everything is okay, I just have a patient that needs a daily check-up on his injuries That's all"
Emillia left to check up on her patient while I remained in the forest practicing.
I continued to try to hit the mark, but I was finding it hard to concentrate; shortly after, I began to hear footsteps approaching.
"Emilia, why are you back so early?" I turned, trying to see if I could see her, but I saw no one.
"Em, em, come on, we ain't going down this road again," I said smiling
Yeah, Emilia had teased me one day. She came from only the goddess knows where scaring me from behind.
"Emil....." I paused
Surprised by the faces I saw, It was Mara and her gang with a few other wolves who I recognised as people who had, in one way or the other, been, hostile to me at some point.
"What... are... you doing.... here" I stammered trying to hide my fear
"I see you've got a little thing going on up here" Mara said smiling
There was nothing good about that smile, the smile had evil laced around.
Mara and her crew began to move closer to me, all smiling evilly. As they took a step towards me, I took a step backwards as well.
I asked her why she was there with me, she wasn't supposed to be here, only I and Emilia knew about our training so except Emilia told her there was no way she could have know and I for one wouldn't have told her.
But i knew Emilia wouldn't tell Mara, after few seconds of pondering on the matter it dawned on me that Mara could have been watching me.
"We've come to play a game of catch" someone in the crew shouted
Everyone burst out laughing except me; I was scared; I was the only one here with all these people, and all gave me the death stare, and my heart began to race.
Mara picked one of the arrows in the collection,
"So... how sharp is this arrow?" Mara walked closer to where I stood pointing the arrow at me.
"Mara, what are you trying to do?"
"What does it look like I am trying to do?" She gave a wry smile
"Mara, please, you don't have to do this."
"Oh dear", she laughed hysterically. "You have to bear the consequences of your action; you think I don't know you are here to spy on our pack."
"What are you saying, Mara?"
"Well, that's not important; this Is a good place to kill you. Make it look like a wild animal did it."
My heart began to make a thousand beats in a second. As Mara approached me, her eyes yellow, the arrow pointing at me, I heard a voice.
