Chapter 19 - Death From Above

Sebastian

"Excuse the fuck out of me?" I glared at Melvin. The other dukes gasped at me for being so vulgar towards him, but I'm done. "Say that again, and don't be so vague about it."

"Your father is running this city into the ground. You know how much debt we're all in ever since the freedom pact? Do you know how much crime has increased? You even hired a whore from Lahnust for crying out loud!"

"He did what? A woman from the Lahnust clan? Here?" William replied panicky.

"Yes! She hurt my little Marie and killed her cousins who were just looking out for her!" He stood up huffing.

"You mean your cousins who drugged her with that new drug?" I hissed at him through my teeth. The other dukes looked at him, not with shock, but a look like they'd all just been caught doing something they shouldn't. Duke Spry sat back down.

"I don't know what you're talking about. I have several eyewitnesses saying she was naked, taunting them and then murdered them in cold blood."

"And I have a house full of maids, butlers and guards who saw me carry her struggling body into the god-damn house. I have a maid who is traumatized from the blood from the injuries your men inflicted on her spilling on the sheets she has to clean. I have solid proof; you are the instigator. Which brings to question, why do you, Duke Spry, have a drug that's been known to use to drug, rape and kidnap women?"

"I.." he stammered.

"You? You what? Didn't you think I'd put two and two together? The requests to add these ridiculous taxes, to drop the slave freedom act, and to disband the task force all pointing to the fact that the people who were supposed to keep this city safe are conspiring or are currently in the act of selling innocent people and drugging others?" I shot them all a look, their expressions confirmed what I suspected right off the bat. Azazel chuckled out a word that rang through my ears. Greed.

"You can't prove anything, and you can't do anything till your father comes back home." Duke spry hissed at me.

"Oh, excuse me. I forgot I'm not "Prince Sebastian Aster", it's just for show, huh?" I glared at the man.

"I am not passing any of these ridiculous requests. You can try again when my father comes back. Anything else any of you wish to discuss?" I leaned back in my chair, cracking my knuckles. A server came through the door, bringing food. My eyes darted to the swaying door, hoping to catch a glimpse of Lilith. My heart dropped when I saw someone shove a platter of food into her hands and pointed in our direction.

I could hear everyone's neck crane as she walked through the door, following the other server. She looked like she'd done this before, ignoring the stares as she gracefully placed the platter down. She stood up straight, placing her hands behind her back. She flicked a stare at me, then turned to head back to the kitchen.

"Excuse me!" That horrid voice of Duke Williams rang out. "Miss? The one with red hair." He pointed directly at Lilith. I could see Duke Byrum drooling looking at her, he licked the sides of his mouth as he scotched his chair closer to her.

Lilith turned towards Duke William, bowing, and responding in that sultry yet dangerous tone. "Yes, sir?"

"Can I get some more tea?" I released my breath as he said those words. I'm surprised none of these inbreds know what a woman from Lahnust looks like. Duke Spry stood up.

"She's not a maid; she's that woman from Lahnust." He glared at her. "She's probably pretending to be a maid to gather information and send it back to her clan."

Lilith giggled. They all stared at her, jaws dropping.

"Sir, we have no need to do that. We are sell swords and weapons. Nothing more..." The words tugged at my heart.

"Well, you hurt my Marie and killed my cousins! I'll have you exiled..." I cut him off by standing up. I stared daggers into him as I towered above him. Before I could do anything, a horrific scream rang out from the courtyard, causing everyone to jump.

I swiftly made my way around the table; Lilith had already gone to investigate. I turned to the dukes before I shut the door on them.

"Stay in here and if things seem off lock the damn doors." I slammed it shut as I ripped the tie holding my hair back out. I opened the doors to the back; the women were cowering as several of my guards were strewn across the floor bleeding. I scanned the area. I couldn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Marie stood up, trembling. Lilith was in front of me. She snapped her head upwards as she yelled for Marie to duck, but she didn't hear her in time. A giant figure swooped down, nabbing her and taking her into the sky.

"God damn it," Lilith snarled as her armor started to gleam, wrapping around her and ripping her clothing off. She sprinted, crouched and shoved herself off the floor, causing the floor to buckle under the weight. She shot up and disappeared.

I could hear a horrific screeching, as feathers fell from above. I quickly went and gathered the women, guiding them into the house for safety. Once I had them all in the dining room with their husbands, I returned outside.

"We can't do anything..." Azazel growled. "No shit... what fuck is it anyways?" I questioned as I heard something falling through the air. Someone smacked into the ground in front of me, creating a crater, sending rocks and debris flying. I shielded my face, squinting through the dust. Lilith rose, holding a sobbing Marie.

She carried her to me and shoved her into my arms. "Take care of your..." She smiled wickedly at me. "Wife Sebastian." She snaked her tongue out at me as she licked her bottom lip and caressed her breasts before giggling and turning around. She stuck her arm up in the air, a blade extended.

"Bring it on mother fucker!" She yelled as I heard wings flapping. I looked up and saw a beast I've only seen in books. A Griffin. What the fuck is a Griffin doing all the way out here?

It moved with a speed that it shouldn't have for something as big as it was. It dove towards Lilith, who leaned back on her haunches, back-flipping as soon as its claws reached her. She landed on its back, jamming her arm through its shoulder blades, causing it to screech. It took off the ground again, flinging blood across the yard as it took Lilith to the sky.

"Damn it!" I seethed as I turned to take Marie back into the house. She was sobbing uncontrollably and whispering under her breath. I dropped her on the floor in the dining room. She looked up at me pathetically as her father cussed me out for dropping his precious daughter.

I exited the dining room again as everyone protested. They insisted I had to stay with them. Bull shit. They just want to make sure my blood wouldn't be on their hands if this goes south. I hate these aristocrats.

As I stepped back outside, blood was dripping from the sky. I looked up and saw the most spectacular sight I've ever seen.

Lilith was entangled in the beast's claws, stabbing it as it clawed at her, sending a metallic ding as it hit her armor. It managed to slice her, her skin ripping and then sealing shut as steam closed it. She grabbed one of the talons, breaking it backwards as the creature spun, kicking her off itself. She tucked her body and dropped back towards the creature who snatched her in its beak. It bit down; blood flew out of its mouth as Lilith jammed her gauntlet into its eye. She flipped her legs upwards and wrapped her legs around its neck, grabbing a wing in one of her hands, ripping it clean off.

Blood rained down on me as I saw the two slowly descend out of the sky. My heart fluttered as Azazel moaned within me. The site of her battling was truly euphoric.
