Chapter 6 - Confrontation at the door

Lucinda walked into the cozy café, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee enveloping her as she made her way to a quiet table by the window. She sat down, her eyes gazing out at the bustling street scene outside, but her mind was a thousand miles away.

She couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in her stomach after Des walked out on her. What had just happened? One minute they were laughing and reconnecting, and the next, Des was storming out, leaving her feeling guilty and confused.

Lucinda sighed, running her hands through her hair as she tried to process her emotions. Why had Des reacted so strongly to the message from Chris? And who was Chris to her, really? A friend, or something more?

As she sat there, lost in thought, the café's background noise faded into the background, and all Lucinda could hear was the sound of her own heartbeat, pounding out a rhythm of uncertainty and doubt.

Chris burst through the café door, flashing a charming smile as he scanned the room for Lucinda. Spotting her sitting by the window, he hurried over, dropping into the chair across from her.

"Hey, I'm so sorry I'm late," Chris said, out of breath. "I had little issues to attend to ..They were impromptu though pluss , traffic was breathless today

I am sorry Lu

Lucinda forced a smile, feeling a pang of guilt for being distracted. "It's okay, I just got here myself." She lied .

Chris signaled the waitress, and they ordered their coffee. As they sipped their drinks, and ordered

Lucy was forced to speak

"I'm telling you, Chris, caramel macchiato is the best," Lucinda said, her eyes sparkling with conviction.

Chris chuckled. "You can't be serious. Mocha is where it's at. The richness of the chocolate is unbeatable."

Lucinda scoffed. "Please, caramel macchiato has a perfect balance of sweet and savory. Mocha can't compete with that." Chris shook his head, grinning. "I think you're crazy, Lucinda."

Chris couldn't help but notice that Lucinda seemed off

"Hey, is everything okay?" Chris asked, his brow furrowed with concern. "You seem a little... distant."

Lucinda hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. But there was something about Chris's kind eyes that put her at ease.

"It's just been a weird morning," Lucinda said, sighing. "I had a fight with... someone."

Chris's expression softened. "I'm sorry to hear that. Do you want to talk about it?"

Lucinda took a deep breath and let it all out - the conversation with Des, the message from Chris, and the subsequent fight. She told Chris about how Des had walked out on her, leaving her feeling guilty and confused.

As Lucinda spoke, Chris listened intently, his expression growing more and more sympathetic. He nodded along, his eyes filled with understanding, and Lucinda felt a sense of relief wash over her.

"I'm so sorry, Lucinda," Chris said, his voice filled with compassion. "That sounds like a really tough situation. I had no idea my message would cause so much trouble."

Lucinda shook her head, feeling a pang of guilt. "It's not your fault, Chris. It's just... Des and I have been having some issues lately. I think this was just the straw that broke the camel's back."

Chris reached out and put a hand on Lucinda's arm, his touch warm and comforting. "I'm here for you, Lucinda. If you need someone to talk to, I'm here. And if you need some space, I can give you that too."

Lucinda felt a lump form in her throat as she looked at Chris. She was touched by his kindness and understanding. For the first time all day, she felt like things might actually be okay.

"Thanks, Chris," Lucinda said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Just talking to you makes me feel better."

Chris smiled and squeezed her arm. "Anytime, Lucinda. Anytime."

Chris's expression turned thoughtful as he considered the situation. "You know, Lucinda, I think I might have an idea," he said, a hint of a plan forming in his eyes.

Lucinda raised an eyebrow, curious. "What is it?" she asked.

Chris took a deep breath. "I think I should meet with Des and apologize for my part in what happened. Maybe if he sees that I'm not trying to steal you away from him, he'll calm down and you two can work things out."

Lucinda's eyes widened in surprise, and she shook her head vehemently. "No way, Chris. That's not necessary. Besides, I don't think Des would even want to meet with you."

But Chris was undeterred. "Hear me out, Lucinda. I think this could really help. And even if it doesn't, at least I'll know that I tried to make things right."

Lucinda sighed, feeling a pang of guilt. She didn't want Chris to get involved in her drama, but at the same time, she had to admit that his idea wasn't entirely crazy.

"Okay, fine," Lucinda said finally, throwing up her hands in defeat. "But if this blows up in our faces, I'm blaming you."

Chris grinned, looking relieved. "Don't worry, Lucinda. I can handle myself. And who knows, maybe this will be the start of something good."

Lucinda raised an eyebrow, skeptical. But as she looked at Chris, she saw the sincerity in his eyes, and she felt a spark of hope. Maybe, just maybe, this crazy plan of Chris's would actually work.

Chris and Lucinda arrived at Des's place, feeling a mix of nerves and anticipation. Chris took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself for the conversation ahead.

Lucinda knocked on the door, and after a moment, it swung open. Des stood in the doorway, his eyes narrowing as he took in the sight of Lucinda standing beside Chris.

For a moment, no one spoke. The tension was palpable, and Lucinda could feel the air thickening with unspoken emotions.

Then, in a swift motion, Des's hand shot out, grabbing Chris by the shoulder.

HOPE ITS NOT WHAT I THINK IT IS😩😠😠😠😠😠
