Sebastian
Sebastain marks another box complete on his momento mori board; over 42 thousand white boxes remained. The momento mori calendar is typically the days left in the average lifespan but Sebastian's was significantly smaller. In just over 11 years he will stop living and at the same time he will become something that will never die. His heart will stop and he will become a creature of pure darkness like his father.
He purchased this board two years ago when he found out being a late bloomer was part of the package. His father sat him down for the talk when he started showing signs. What he thought was going to be your bog standard "birds and the bees" talk was actually his introduction to the "bats and the blood". Sebastian and his father were capital V Vampires, of the (type) variety.
After getting over a brief depression and accepting that he was never going to have a normal life again, Sebastian purchased the momento mori board and started counting the days he had left. Not to start a bucket list and tick adventures off one by one, making sure each day was lived to it's fullest. Nope, Sebastian only had roughly thirteen years to prepare. Prepare for life in the other realms, the underside, the other dimensions, or pay the very hefty fees that his father was paying to stay among the mortals in this realm. Prepare his body, his mind, and his ledger.
His body, Sebastian inherited a narrow frame from his mother and built long lean muscle like a swimmer. His routine took 40 minutes a day just to maintain. His diet consisted of broccoli and chicken. His supernatural strength compounded his actual strength and he grew more powerful by the month. But considering the feats he saw from the demons and olympian demigods he had met, he feels like he should have started training before puberty by about a decade, maybe a century. When the end came he wanted his body to be as strong as any non elder demon and as fast as Hermes. After the change it would take centuries for him to gain strength and power without taking shortcuts.
His mind, on top of studying for his bachelor's in finance. Sebastian filled his time studying every pre Victorian source on the arcane, occult, alchemical, and religious history. Some of which were sourced from their home dimension. Actual history he read almost purely for entertainment, rarely were they accurate and often they were heroic propaganda. But he liked them all the same, the romance and vengeance behind the war of Troy being over a stolen bride and not the mundane uprooting of a port city that had amassed more wealth and influence than Athens. And if one day he met the Goddesses themselves he could ask them if the storybook version was a factor.
His ledger includes not just his human bank account which his father generously deposited a hefty allowance. It also includes the debts he owed and the debts owed to him. Unlike human courts where you'll need a judge and a lawyer to collect a debt when you've made a binding contract with a magical being there wasn't a corner of reality you'd be able to find peace from until the terms were complete. Sebastian had already acquired more small favors than he owed, nothing on the level of his father.
Sebastian finished ticking the box. He had one less day to prepare.
