Magic A piece of True Magic
"This will be the last piece you'll need" sebastain tossed me a plastic hockey mask.
"I can't wear this it doesn't go with the shoes."
He looked at me like a father looks at a toddler trying to babble their way out of eating their greens. I started to feel shame an disappointment in myself for letting him down.
"Doll, This is a masquerade party you'll need to wear this."
"Oh." I replied and gave him a moment to expand on why we are headed to a masquerade. After gently wafting my hand with the come on for a few spins. I asked. "Why are we going to a masquerade?" Sebastain looked embarrasse for a second and tossed the explanation around in his head while admiring the hem of my dress.
"Forgive me, I forget that this is all brand new to you. It is quite old to me. It's always a masquerade there is no other way to have a neutral meeting between houses much less species of the underside. See this symbol on the front of the mask. It will obscure your identity and obscure the identity of everyone else, you're mask comes with another mark on the inside that will show someone's nature. You won't know who anyone is and know one will know who you are. Otherwise the factions would have to be at each others throats, there are a few blood debts that need to still be settled."
"If no one will know who I am. How am I to be seen by your father." I said stalling. The idea of putting on the mask was less than appealing and I think it smelled of sweat a little.
"My father is hosting he is able to see everyone as they are. His mask will prevent him from speaking. It's going to be great. He is going to be very, very mad and he won't be able to do a damn thing about it. Now put on the mask for a second so that you can find me at the party."
"Wait we arn't entering together."
"We can't otherwise we would would know each other at the party. I'll send you to the waiting booth with your ticket and when the servant knocks you'll slip your ticket through the slit and he will open the door. You'd better have your mask on. You should be able to find me if you know what I look like obscured with your filter." He motioned for me to put the mask on. I did as he asked.
I couldn't control my laughter. It erupted right from my stomach like sick. He raised his hand to my cheek. Laughter wasn't coming out, I was in such a fit of joy that I was choking on the air as my body spasmed. He must be concerned, which made me want to laugh even harder. Embracing me in a very warm hug, he shushed me, with a coo.
"It's okay, It's okay. You're safe Jane. You're perfectly safe. Sometimes the nature of people can be scary. I don't mean a hair on your head any harm." He grabbed the side of my head and planted a kiss deep into my hair. My body didn't recognize it as Sebastains touch. "Cry if you have to Doll. I'm here for you. You're safe and this is just imaginary." -Did he say cry, are my eyes leaking with laughing tears, like an emoji-
After a solid minute or two, I finally stopped. Hiccup oh no this is somehow worse. Sebastain felt the hiccup put me back to arms length, removed the hockey mask, and wiped my cheek of the last wet tear. "I'm sorry you have to see, like that." He doesn't even know "Just be strong for me tonight, you'll see worse down there. I'd say that I am rather tame compared to the demons you may meet. But you're a strong girl Jane, I need you to use that strength tonight. Now when you're ready use this key in my closet door and it will open a portal to the booth. Take your time, Just don't take to long okay." Sebastain had tucked his hand under my chin. He held his gaze steady and under the influence of his soft touch and warm eyes, I didn't want to look anywhere else. If there is one thing that must be true, I can trust this man. He has no idea how safe I feel around him and how soft his touch is. He thinks that he scared me and holds a little sadness in his eyes for hurting me. Such sweet guilt from my Sebastain. My Sebastain oh no the boy is stealing my heart, remember Jane you are here for other reasons none of which involve melting into Sebastain's soft limbs and strong arms. Remember Jane he isn't old enough to drink. He's not the one who feels drunk Thank you for the thought Mr. Cricket but I don't need to be told how I feel.
"Not to long okay." He said before he put the key and slip of paper in my hand. "Just do it like this." He walked over to the closet door and turned his key. The key disappeared and a blue light poured from the key hole and from around the empty space between the door and it's frame. When he opened the door it looked like a solid wall of fog. He stepped in and closed the door behind him. The blue light faded instantly. I was now alone in Sebastain's house, in his room. Dam if only I knew what I was looking for. I can't tear up his room, I still need him to help me through all this.
At least I can have a true laugh now, giggles started coming up. Sebastain appeared as a fluffy white cloud, wearing a yellow hard hat, and a crossing guard safety vest that I hadn't seen since middle school, Ridiculous yellow rubber boots, and where the cloud's shifted he had rainbow joints. He couldn't have been cuter if he was a big fluffy stuffed bunny. No wonder I was dying in his arms as he was telling me that I was safe with him. I can't think of anything that could be safer. At least his intent is so pure. Jane my girl remember he is so much younger than you, I mean he is an adult by all the regular measures. He isn't the naive one here, that would be me. Alright let's go to an Underside ball.
