We argued back and forth about luck for three hours straight. We only left the restaurant at about 4:00 pm.
Mike's explanation about luck was an eye-opener to me. I learned a lot of things about this intangible attribute everyone carries.
Maybe it was due to the argument we were having, or for some other reason… my appetite was restored, and I ate one more plate of rice. I ordered three more plates of rice and chicken, and two chilled bottled cola as a takeaway. My refrigerator is still working perfectly fine.
We chatted a little bit more until 3:40 pm, when I told him I was going home to relax.
"Should I drive you home then?" He offered, but I tactfully declined. Who wants to have anything to do with this cultist?
"There's no need to stress yourself that much, just drop me off at Alvan road, I'll find my way home from there."
"Okay, get in!" He said as he opened the door for me to step in. To be truthful, that little action touched a soft spot in my heart. Wouldn't you also be happy if the richest man in the country opened the door for you while trying to please you with everything he has?
We talked all the way home, but I forgot to ask him the question I wanted to ask earlier; how could I contact the seven custodians (my employers).
Soon, we reached Alvan ikoku road and I got out of his sports car.
"I know that the magic staff might not mean much to you, but please take good care of it. The world will collapse if it gets into the wrong hands. Let it always be with you at all times," Mike advised. But why should I carry that staff with me anywhere I go?
I can't even imagine it. On a first day with my crush… where I'll wear my sexy dress, pretty shoes and some light make-up, then I'd just pick up my heavy staff and show up to the place like some powerful mage.
"Okay," I said, not putting his warning in mind.
"Both the supernatural and the human world are currently suffering under the oppression of these creatures. Please don't let us suffer a worse fate. You must not let them have it!" Mike shouted. Now I'm scared that little toy of mine could cause the destruction of the world.
What do you mean that the fate of the world is tied to me?
Have I not crashed headfirst into the hornet's nest?
I walked home absentmindedly while thinking about his stern warning. The serious expression on his face means that he's not joking, or trying to pull a prank on me.
After getting home, I went straight to my homeowner's apartment and gave her one of my takeaways. I stayed there until 7:15 pm before going back to my room to sleep.
I was lying down on the bed to rest when I saw that my windows were open and there some of my clothes lying scattered near my wardrobe.
Something seems off!
Even an earthquake can not scatter my clothes on the ground while the wardrobe door is locked.
Who could have broken into my one-bedroom apartment? For what reason? I'm not rich or anything.
As I was wondering about what to do, I heard a strange sound from the bathroom.
I looked round the room, in search of anything I could use as a weapon for self-defense. I quickly saw a wine bottle lying in a corner beside my bed. I picked it up at lightning speed, trying my best not to make any sound as I approached the bathroom.
I used one hand to open the door while readying the other one to attack at any given opportunity.
I opened the bathroom door, to see five hefty men staring back at me. I hit the bottle in my hand on the wall trying to scare the enemies with this fierce act of mine.
I broke the bottle in the hope of getting a perfect shape to scare the enemies, but I didn't expect to cut my hand in the process as I had hit the bottle too hard on the wall.
Streams of blood trickled down my fingers from the cut on my Palm. I quickly rushed out of the bathroom, and rushed out of the house in fright.
Who in their right senses would stand to fight with five hefty men in the middle of the night?
As I was about to open the door to escape, one of the men pushed me out of the way and kicked the door open, trying to escape with something in his hand. Oh no! It's my staff.
I remembered Mike's warning about not letting the staff fall into the wrong hands. I instinctively grabbed the staff with my bloody hand and received the biggest shock of my life.
Arcs of electricity passed through my body through the cut in my hand. It was only for five seconds, but my body became numb all over.
I snatched back the staff from the burly man but there was nothing but air in front of me. The burly man had disappeared?
I looked back to confirm if I was the only person seeing this. I saw four men looking in a certain direction with their mouths open wide like a chicken that was about to lay eggs.
I looked back to see a lump of black ashes in the same position as the burly man that was trying to escape with my staff.
I turned back to look at the remaining four burglars to explain to them that things were not as they thought. But their expression changed from shock to fear when they saw me looking over. One of them even pissed his pants when he saw me approach.
They were looking at me as if I was some man eater planning to eat them for dinner.
I moved closer to them in a way to explain myself better, but they moved back two steps with each step I took to approach.
Wow!
So am I that powerful?
"Please spare our lives, oh moon priestess, we were only following orders," One of the burly men exclaimed as he fell to his knees.
"Who sent you?" I asked coldly.
