Elara's pov
I had been attending to the guard at their quarters all morning. She aided them with medicine, bandages and the rest. Out of all the guards the king had, quite a number of them were injured. It made me wonder how dangerous the retreat was for the guards to have sustained this kind of injury.
The work was a bit fast as Maids were assigned to help me with whatever I needed just in case and to help with the bandaging.
"Ok that is all, you'll just have to change the bandage everyday so it won't get infected". I said as it was my last patient of the day.
I've been standing for so long that for a while, it was starting to get blurry and I was having constant headaches. I took some painkillers for the pain but my sight on the other hand was still a bit blurry.
I sat on a chair as I touched the bridge of my nose, scrunching my face as it was becoming unbearable. It was still a bit early and I decided I would go home early so I would get some rest.
"Please could you tell the king and queen I would be leaving early" I say to a maid as I force a smile without giving in to my discomfort.
The maid nodded and went to deliver the message.
I used the time to pack up my things and get ready but for some reason, the aching pain in my head had increased making me drop my belongings.
"Ouch…." I gasped as my legs felt weak and I had fallen to my knees as my hands held my head from the throbbing pain.
I stayed on the floor for about 5 minutes before I picked myself up and waited by the door for the maid to arrive as I closed my eyes waiting.
The maid finally arrived
"Miss, the king would like to see you in his study before you depart".
"Ok, then will you show me the way to his office from here" I say asking her with a smile,but all I felt was discomfort due to the throbbing pain in my head
She nodded as she began leading the way
"You know, the castle hasn't been talked about this much since the prince arrived, you have been quite a gossip round the other maids" the maid spoke as we walked.
"What's that supposed to mean?"I ask, confused but quite offended, why am I being talked about around here.
"Oh it's just a harmless gossip, the other girls talk about how you always with the guards tending to the guards, nothing harmless"the maid says
"But it is my duty to tend to the guards, I was assigned to it, and I think your maids should just do the jobs they've been assigned to as I do mine, we are all here to work are we not" I replied as I was growing tired of this conversation.
As if my prayers had been answered, we've reached the king's study. I was about to enter but I called the maid back.
"Can you please wait here so when I'm done inside you would show me the exit, this palace can be quite confusing with the extra rooms"I say asking the maid. What the prince said about not knowing my way around the palace still stuck with me.
"I could do something even better, I might show you how I navigate each room and chamber in the palace if that's alright by you" the maid said with a smile
"I would very much appreciate that, thank you"I replied as I made my way inside the king's study.
Once I got in, I saw the king immersed in paper work as he acknowledged my presence.
"King Eldric"I say I curtsey, making my respects to the king.
The king nodded before handing me a piece of paper. "I need your address, please write it down"
I tried reading what's on the paper before I would sign it.
"No need for that"the king said as he saw that I was reading the paper frantically.
"I promise you, it's not something to read after" thing Eldric said as he handed me his ink feathered pen.
(Sir, what are you on, what if you're trying to endl me) I thought for a moment before collecting the ink pen from his hands and wrote my address.
"Thank you. I'll have the bonus pay sent to this address then, take it as a thank you for taking care of my wife in my absence. I really appreciate that.
"Bonus?, I'm sorry, bonus?" I say as my eyes widen.
"Yes, I'll send it first thing in the morning, and oh if you could also sign this" the king said as he slid another paper to me.
"I would like to higher you as the palaces official royal physician"
I was shocked at the king's Eldric words.
"Our old physician has already retired due to his old age, he did a very great job and requires rest. So yes we are in need of a new physician and I've heard a lot about your hard work from my wife, son and fellow workers" the king said as he retreats his hands back and waits for me to sign.
I was shocked but happy at the same time that I was at a loss for words before I pulled myself together again finding the words to say.
"I would love to be your highness, I'll do my best as the palace's royal physician, I won't fail you sir" I said as I bow dropping my bag to pick up the ink pen and sign the paper.
"I love that, and I hope to see more of your good work" king Eldric says as he takes the paper back once I signed.
At that moment, the door to the king's study was opened as a man with striking similar features to the king walked in.
