Chapter 12 - We Have A Problem

Only a few candles were lit now. And Yorian was laying down on the bed looking up at the ceiling. His shiny silver hair was spread across the pillow and his red eyes glowed in the dim light.

When she walked up to the bed, Yorian turned his head starring at the human girl now his wife.

"You should take your robe off. It's very hot in here at night." His observation was completely innocent, but it made her heart beat faster, and suddenly it felt really hot in the room.

Adonis opened her robe and let it slide down her arms. Meanwhile, his eyes followed her every movement. The girl then laid down on the bed, facing the other way. Even though Yorian said he could wait to consummate the wedding. She still felt nervous.

She felt him shift on the bed and stiffened.

"Adonis," he whispered, his voice a soft brush on her back.

"Yes?" she struggled to keep her voice neutral.

"Turn around!" he commanded. She found herself turning to face him.

"I promise to treat you well; you don't have to be afraid." His voice was soft as he muttered.

"I'm not," she whispered.

Yorian though didn't say anything for a while. The vampire king could clearly see through the girl. She was lying through her teeth. Obviously, she is afraid of him.

"Goodnight." He finally said.

"Goodnight," he whispered back feeling more relaxed until eventually she fell asleep.

Adonis woke up and tried to shift in the bed, but then realized that a strong arm was wrapped around her waist restricting her movement. Yorian! It was him.

Her back was pressed against his hard chest and she could feel his hot breath on her neck and some strands of his soft hair on her shoulder. He smelled good. He had a mix lavender and coconut scent, and somehow, she found herself melting in his embrace. Adonis liked it, the warm and secure feeling it gave.

Suddenly, he slid his arm away and sat up on the bed.

"What is it?" she asked sitting up as well.

Yorian seemed to be listening to something. Adonis looked around and strained her ears, but couldn't hear anything. Climbing down from the bed he put his robe on.

"We have a problem." He said and walked to the door. And Adonis quickly put on her robe and went after him.

Some maids and guards were gathered in the hall arguing about something. They all fell silent as soon as they saw the King and Queen coming.

"Your Highness," they said and bowed.

"What is the problem?" Yorian asked his cousin whom he found at the middle of the lined servants.

They had a look of fear on their faces. One maid in particular was trembling with her hands behind her back.

"What do you have there." Yorian demanded.

"Brother Yorian, she stole my jewelry. The one aunt gave me to wear for the banquet." Amber countered nearly struggling the girl.

Adonis watch as the girl began shaking and Amber went to the servant and took the hidden thing from behind her back. It was a golden neckless. Amber's jewelry.

"I am sorry, Your Highness, it will never happen again," the girl quickly fell to her knees in front of Yorian. Shaking as much as before.

"Please, Your Majesty, I beg you." She cried.

Adonis though silently watch; she had no idea what Yorian would do to the girl. She both pitied and feared for her. She might even be executed, or if the girl is lucky then she would get her hands cut off. She didn't know which one sounded worse. Stealing was of course not okay, but she doesn't think anyone should die for it. the human girl inwardly hoped Yorian would have mercy on them.

But walking beside her, he placed his hands on her shoulders. "Since the Queen is the head of the haram, she will decide your punishment." Adonis froze for a moment, surprised and unsure on what to do.

The girl could also see Amber's displeased expression after the King's words.

"My Queen, how would you like to punish her?" he asked looking at the her.

Adonis looked at the young maid sitting on her knees crying and shaking violently. She went up to her.

"Why did you do it?" she inquired in a gentle voice.

"I am sorry, Your Highness. I didn't want to, but my mother is sick and her treatment costs a lot," she croaked, crying hysterically.

"Get up!" the Queen ordered the girl.

"What's your name?" she prompted once the girl was now on her feet.

"My name is Savita, Your Highness." She said meekly.

"But you need to promise me that you will never steal again. It's okay, I will send royal physician to check on your mother." She softly said. "there are more honest ways to find money, Besides, putting your life at risk wouldn't help your mother in any way."

Everyone looked at the Queen wide-eyed. They clearly didn't expect the girl to be left alive after what she had done. Savita too was shocked and just stared at her.

"Do you promise me?" Adonis repeated.

"I…I promise you…I promise Your Highness,' she spouted. "Thank you so much…than you." The maid began crying once again but this time tears of relief.

"Now everyone can go back to work," Adonis said, relieved that the situation ended well.

They walked away, Savita crying nonstop despite not getting punished. It was tears of relief. Her mother would be cured.

Amber on the other hand stormed out angry. The Queen my foot.

Turning around to head back, the Queen found Yorian standing there, his arms crossed behind his back. He looked at her with what seemed like admiration, but she wasn't sure.

Crossing the distance between them, he wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her into his embrace. "Let's get back to bed." His deep voice sending shivers down her spine.
