Chapter 13 - Clash Of Wills

After Amber stormed out of the hallway, the young vampire entered and slammed the door behind her shut. She went to her mother and her unshed tears began falling profusely.

That human girl had already started taking over the palace. The mere human was behaving like a Queen earlier. The lonely human most have enjoyed humiliating her in front of the servants.

"Can you believe it, Mother? Brother Yorian asked that lonely human to punish the maid who stole my jewelry," she exclaimed, her voice trembling. "I am the one who should discipline her, not that human!"

Lady Sara was taken aback by her daughter's outburst, "Amber, calm down. Perhaps there's a reason why Yorian asked Adonis to handle it."

Amber scoffed. "Reason? He probably just wants to show off his new queen. He doesn't care about me or my feelings."

Lady Sara tried to reason with her daughter, but Amber was too consumed by her anger to listen. She paced back and forth, her mind racing with resentment. How could Yorian betray her like this she had loved him for so long, and now he was treating her like she didn't matter.

Amber, her voice trembling approached her mother, "Mother, you have to do something. Brother Yorian is starting to like the human girl, I can't let this happen," she cried, tears streaming down her face.

Yorian can't be falling for that human girl.

Lady Sara was taken aback by her daughter's distress. "Amber, please calm down. I know you are upset, but you have to be patient."

Amber shook her head, her anger flaring. "Patient? Mother, you promised me I would be the Queen of Domara. You promised me I would marry Yorian. Now, this human girl is taking everything away from me."

Lady Sara tried to reason with her daughter, but Amber was too consumed by her emotions to listen. She stormed out of the room, her heart heavy with despair.

Lady Sara was left alone, her mind racing. She knew she had to come up with s plan before Amber did something rash. But first, she needed to hear what her sister wanted to discuss.

"There is no way my sister will allow Yorian to marry that human girl except if she is hiding something." Lady Sara was sure her sister was hiding something from her. She could see through the woman's words as well.

Something is wrong. But just what is it?

Sara decided she would wait patiently for her sister to talk to her after the banquet first. Her heart heavy with worry. She knew Amber was hurting, because of the human girl's arrival and she wanted to do anything she could to make her daughter happy.

Turning around to head back, Adonis found Yorian standing there, his arms crossed behind his back. He looked at her with what seemed like admiration, but she wasn't sure.

Crossing the distance between them, he wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her into his embrace. "Let's get back to bed." His deep voice sending shivers down her spine.

His voice, his scent, the warmth from his body, all filled her senses and made her unable to think clearly. Before she knew it, he was carrying her to their bedchamber. And then laid her down on the bed. Bed? Wait, no!

Yorian lay down beside her and when she tried to get up, he put an arm around her shoulders and held her down.

"Lay still and let me hold you," he said, taking his arm away from her shoulders and putting them around her waist instead.

"Why?"

"Because I like holding you and you like it when I do it," he replied softly.

"And how would you know?" she said, a teasing lilt to her voice.

"What? You don't like it?" Adonis was afraid that if she said she liked it he would want to take it to the next level, but she didn't want lie either.

"It's… alright," she said cautiously, a shy smile making its way to her face. He grabbed her chin and made her turn around to face him.

"Is my touch just alright?"

He let go of her chin and traced with his fingers down her neck and up her shoulder, removing her robe from one side. Her pulse quickened and her skin tingled where he had touched. He leaned closer. "I don't think so," he whispered.

"You… promised not to do anything," she said stuttering.

"No, I didn't. I promised to treat you well." Oh god! That was true. He never promised to not consummate the wedding, and who knows what treating her well means to him. Adonis pulled herself away from his grasp and climbed down from the bed.

Clearing her throat, "I am hungry," she blurted. "Aren't you?"

Yorian smiled a devilish smile. "Oh, I am very hungry," he said, scanning her with eyes that showed hunger for something other than food. Her heart skipped a beat, but she ignored it.

"Then we should go and eat," she said, turning around and walking away before he could say anything else.

Yorian tried to ignore the burning need in his body and focus on eating his breakfast. He glanced at his wife at the same time she glanced at him. their eyes met and she looked down quickly, her cheeks turning a light pink. He wanted to reach for her from the table, but stood up from his seat instead.

"I have some work to do, enjoy your breakfast," he announced and strode out the room before he lost control.

Adonis watch as the king stood and left the alone. The man seemed to be in deep thought. Flash backs of earlier events filled her head causing a smile to curve from the corner of her lips.

He kept his word. he would treat her well.

What was wrong with him? why was his body burning and his heart beating in his ears? He had never felt like this before.
