He returned the smile. She held his hand and drew him to a corner that was less busy.
"What?" He asked with a confused look on his face.
"Where is that ring? Please can I have it?" She asked and he arched his eyebrows.
"Why? I thought you didn't want the gift because it was an old-cracked ring. Am I wrong?" He asked and she kept quiet.
"Please forget about what happened in the past," she said and pouted her lips, but he was adamant.
"My mum likes it and would love to see me wear it," she persisted, but he wasn't moved by any of it.
"Wasn't she there when you slammed it against the floor? What if it had broken into pieces when you slammed it?" he asked.
"It won't break because it's original," she claimed, and he chuckled coldly.
"How do you know it is original? I thought you claimed it was fake earlier," he said, and she got angry when she realized that he wasn't willing to release the ring to her.
"Stop being like that. Are you going to give me the ring or not?" She snapped at him again with a cold look on her face, and he crossed his arms beneath his chest.
Coldness and greediness flickered in the depth of her eyes as she stared at Smith, who was staring at her emotionlessly. Judging from his countenance, she knew he wasn't willing to give her the rings anymore.
"I'm not giving the ring to you," he replied in a cold tone, without hesitation.
Naturally, he didn't mind giving her the rings because she was his girlfriend, but she rejected it. Now, she wanted it after rejecting it because she found out about the worth of the ring.
As much as he wanted to give her the ring, his pride wouldn't let him. She chose that decision so she would be responsible for it and not him. Everyone should stone for their sin. If he wasn't poor and looked down upon, she wouldn't have regretted it.
As the saying goes ' there's no medicine for regret',
After he found out that she was interested in the ring because her family found out about its worth, he hid it.
"But I thought you wanted to give me that ring," she shuddered in a low tone and he shrugged.
"Yes, I did, and you rejected it despite my warning. You should be responsible for believing others instead of me, your boyfriend," he said, and she shook her head with a sigh.
"But I want it, and you shouldn't…'' he interrupted her before she could complete her statement.
"That's enough. We shouldn't talk about this anymore," he said.
"That isn't the reason why your mum called me here, right? She claimed she wanted to treat me well like she should because I'm your boyfriend, right?" He asked and she kept quiet.
He noticed the greed that flashed in the depths of her eyes. He knew it wasn't their intention to make up for how he was treated badly. They were only interested in the ring that was in his possession.
"I'll take my leave since I'm done with what I'm supposed to do," he said in a cold tone and walked out of the hall.
She stared at him for a while without the intention of stopping him.
She snapped out of her thoughts and looked startled as her mother stood behind her with a cold look on her face.
"How's it? Did he give you the ring?" her mother asked with her face filled with greediness when she thought how much she would get from auctioning such relics.
Cassandra shook her head with a sigh when she noticed the look that was on the face of her mother.
"No, he refused to give me the ring ," she said and her mother flared up immediately.
Her mother was enraged when she found out that Damon , who she invited to her house so he could give her the ring he wanted to give her daughter, refused to give her daughter.
To think that she even sounded humble and nice, so he could give her daughter the ring, but he didn't.
How could she not be angry?
"Do you mean he refused to give you the ring despite everything?" She asked in a cold tone and a cold aura emitted from her body.
Cassandra nodded her head in response to her mother's question.
"I'll get the ring no matter what," her mother grunted coldly.
Her mother would do anything to get her hands on something she desired. She gets whatever she sets her eyes on.
"What do you plan to do about him?" Cassandra asked in a low tone, because she knew what her mother was capable of.
"He must have left the mansion, right?" Her mother asked, and she nodded her head even though she didn't know why she asked.
"That's good. I'll make sure that he regrets not giving you that ring," her mother said and viciousness flashed in the depths of her eyes.
She walked out of the small room with her imposing presence. Cassandra took a deep breath as she glanced at her mother, who looked dangerous.
She couldn't help but worry about Damon's safety.
Damon came out of the house and took a deep breath as his gaze landed on the cab before him.
He hailed for a cab heading to his dormitory and entered it. He brought out the ring and couldn't help but squint his eyes as he noticed the dense energy that was flowing within the ring after he brought it out.
He noticed that since he collided with that man, the ring had changed dramatically. The texture feels fake and unnatural. He shook his head with a sigh and placed it inside his finger.
He raised his eyebrows with a confused look on his face when he noticed the black car trailing behind the cab he boarded.
For the past few minutes he had been in the cab, he noticed that the black car had been trailing behind them closely without changing destination.
It seemed as though he was their target. But why? He couldn't help but ask himself.
Before he could fathom what was happening, a black car moved past the cab and stopped in front of their car.
His heart skipped in fear as five men in black suits came out of the black car and kicked the cab driver out of the car.
"What do you want?" He shuddered in fear as one of those people dragged him out of the car to the nearest forest beside the lonely road.
Different thoughts crossed his mind as the men in black suits dragged without saying a single word to him.
"Where's the ring?" One of those men who had scar marks on his face, asked in a cold and sonorous voice.
They didn't see the ring that was on the finger because it was dark everywhere in the forest.
"Are you here for the ring?" Damon asked with a confused look on his face.
Although he was scared, he was curious in his heart.
He never had any connection with these people. Why would they be interested in the ring in his hand? Unless someone who knows the value has sent them to him.
"You're not in any position to question us. Give us the ring, and we might keep your corpse intact," one of them said in a cold tone.
Corpse intact?
A cold chill ran down his spine as soon as the man finished his statement. Does that mean he was going to die? But for what? Why would someone want him dead just for a ring?
"That's the ring on his finger. Take it and stop asking him questions," one of them said and pulled the ring from his finger forcefully, almost breaking his finger.
He whined in pain. He was unwilling, but he kept quiet. What could he do? He didn't know whether he was going to survive or not.
He took a deep breath as one of them dragged him toward the end of the forest. His heart pounded heavily as his gaze landed on the cliff that was a few meters away from him. The feeling of falling onto a cliff that looked like an endless abyss crept fear into his heart.
His body and bones would shatter into nothing if he were to fall into the cliff that seemed to be a bottomless pit.
Knowing that there was no way he could avert the fate of dying, he decided to ask the questions that had been lingering in his mind.
"Who sent you?" he asked in a low tone.
"Since you're going to die, I'll tell you. You died because of your stubbornness. If you had given her the ring earlier, none of this would have happened to you," he said.
His heart burned with excruciating pain when he realized that his girlfriend, Cassandra, sent them because he refused to give them the ring she rejected before.
"Next time, you'll learn not to go against those who are your superiors. You're nothing but an ant before them," the man said and threw Damon off the cliff without any ounce of feeling.
"Ahh…" Damon screamed out when he realized that he'd been thrown into the cliff like a bottomless pit.
When he realized that Cassandra was the cause of everything that happened to him, he felt heartbroken and different.
Although he knew it was impossible, he wanted to live. He wanted to avenge himself. He wanted to make those who looked down upon him bow before him.
His blood boiled with anger and unwillingness when he realized that none of this would happen if he died. He was determined to live.
Just when he thought he was going to land on the floor and crashed into nothing, a loud sonorous voice sounded heavily in his head.
"What a strong soul," he thought he was hallucinating until the voice sounded in his head again.
"Do you want to live or die?"
"You have fifteen seconds to decide before you crush into dust and cease to exist." the voice rang heavily in his head.
Although he didn't believe anything of such was possible
, his will to survive was powerful.
"I want to live," he screamed in his mind when he realized that ten seconds had passed, and he had five seconds left to decide.
He was unwilling to die. As soon as he sounded out his thoughts, something unexpected and unreal happened.
