Chereads / Shades: Code black / Chapter 27 - Our oath

Chapter 27 - Our oath

Angelo was tired, the whole class felt tired but no one had the guts to complain .

For classes, the shades have a single teacher that also serves as mental instructor and technical aid.

Their classes were in smaller buildings often taken in batches, except instructed otherwise.

The shades are taught very few subjects and all only in relation to how it would apply in combat, and or how it would be, even if relatively useful, in aiding the ying Yang clan.

The classes themselves weren't that big a deal, what was the problem was the lack of furniture.

Every single student stood throughout the classes. The shades weren't even provided with books and had to memorise things directly.

The female teacher never showed tiredness and made the students believe she was a mannequin.

' I'll fall soon '

Angelo wasn't the only one. Due to lack of parameters for their classes, the instructor could start or stop a class whenever and her period with the next unit was long overdue.

" Umm, instructor can I use the restroom"

One of the shades asked

The person that asked didn't seem pressed but they were an elf and thus they had really good control over themselves.

The instructor looked at the person for a moment then looked back to the rest of the class.

" You all are already tired, how unfortunate for you when dark is next. Fine you can all leave, you're dismissed"

Before she finished speaking several people fell to the ground. They couldn't stay up anymore.

' what does dark want to teach us? Ooh, ooh no'

Not yet thirty minutes after the first instructor left them, the door swung in.

An older man with a limp walked in.

He stopped at the centre of the class and did a full three sixty.

" Pathetic. Two measly hours of standing and you're this tired!!! No! This can't work. I can't train a bunch of weak and hopeless little things. You all aren't worth training."

He turned around and started to leave.

The whole class exempt a few were confused. Those who had some semblance of understanding rushed to stand up, at least all except Angelo.

Dark reached the door then turned back with a death stare.

" What are you waiting for!? I said I'm not going to train you didn't mean I was going to use the time I've got with ya! Everyone out now! I'm going to use my time to break you into dust, make you regret being weak, I'll ensure that in three weeks you'll be worthy of training. Now, if I get to the big house before any of you, that's a thousand push ups."

Some students were already running.

' he isn't really going to make us do a thousand push ups right?'

He did

The elf from earlier had come in last and dark didn't care wether it was because she wasn't in class when he came or how much she had to pee. He watched her do it, if she stopped he'd use a branch from a tree to hit her back. The longer she stayed down the more hits she got.

Angelo couldn't help but pity her

' I should be glad I'm a fair runner, I mean that could have been me'

Immediately the girl was done he chased the rest of us students about for a whole hour. At one point he climbed a tree and would flick a stone at anyone he saw, the stones mostly missed but the times they hit, the recipient knocked out in one go.

The only reason that he stopped was because he said they were running like chickens

" Do you not know how to be synchronised!?

What do you kids do these days before you get here!? "

He instructed them to form a chain of three's then asked everyone to get behind the front line.

He told us to no matter what never break the formation. He also said that if the person on either side of us were to fall behind we'd do a thousand squats.

He then proceeded to chase them while at the same time guide them around the edges of the island.

Because of the divided attention he didn't move them that fast, still faster than a jog though.

Cly was somewhere in the middle and he just so happened to be besides 'the elf'

' sigh'

They'd just started moving when cly noticed that the elf was having trouble.

" Please don't fall"

The elf realising she was the one he was talking to turned to look at him for a moment.

" I'm not going to do it intentionally, but my whole body hurts"

" Yh I get that, it was definitely not easy to do the push ups"

" Ya think"

She rolled her eyes

Cly was really afraid of the possibility of doing a thousand squats

' my poor thighs might not make it '

" I don't know, maybe I can help you somehow"

The female elf didn't wait a moment later before placing her arm on his shoulders and transferring her weight onto him.

For a moment they were slowed down before picking up a bit.

Cly adjusted himself to accommodate the new weight, although he was relatively taller than he should be, but he at least wasn't taller than the elf.

After a while the elf glances at cly to gauge how much pressure she had put on him.

Cly however was more concerned about keeping his pace. With the side of his eye he could see instructor dark with his stick swinging in front of him.

' the man doesn't even seem to be using any muscle yet '

Cly could only sigh and focus on keeping up

The elf however was intrigued that cly wasn't bothered at all by her extra burden on him, to be fair she was really slender so she didn't weigh much.

" Can I know your name?"

It took cly a moment to realise he was the one being addressed.

" Ooh, it's cly or Angelo whichever you prefer."

" I'm alekris"

There was a momentary pause before Kris spoke up again

" Are you that afraid of the guy, I mean you've been looking at him for a while now "

" How can you ask that, of course I'm terrified. Your legs are testaments of his wrath"

" It doesn't hurt that much, though "

" Of course you can say that, you are an elf you have really good control of your muscles, you can endure "

" I don't know if you've noticed but I don't have much muscle to control "

Cly had been looking forward before but now he turned to face her

He hadn't really thought much about her before and now that he did he noticed she was really lean.

" The food here isn't that small, is it?"

She looked at me dumbfounded.

" Where have you been eating before now" she giggled a bit

" I'm sorry but you must be mean that as a joke"

Cly shook his head slightly

" No I don't, I didn't really have much of a place before here so my meals were often smaller than that."

" Smaller? I don't think that's possible. Is that why you came here?"

She asked showing slight concern

" Partly, it's why I don't see the problem with the food"

Now that he's thinking about it he realises that most people are actually really lean.

After the first lap around the island, which was really large, instructor dark started to pick up the pace and eventually cly, the guy beside him and Kris got in last.

Cly's thighs truly did suffer, by a lot.

The other guy was really pissed that he had to do the squats and he made sure to let cly know.

' it's not even my fault '

Right now everyone was Infront of the big house. Jester wanted to tell the shades something.

" If you'd like to leave you can leave. In the next minute this opportunity won't exist"

Some people were looking nervous, they all seemed to be waiting for the others to go first. Someone tried asking jester if there was a catch but he just answered in a very vague manner. People were afraid.

Eventually someone stepped out wishing to leave. It was a shouki boy, he had rabbit ears and looked really small. He was one of those who didn't seem to belong here.

After he was allowed to leave a few others started to pour out from the crowd after gaining their composure.

They were all allowed to leave. No one could determine if there was a catch afterwards.

Jester seemed to be nonchalant about the amount of people leaving.

When a minute was up he stopped allowing people to leave.

" I assure you all or most of those who have decided to leave will leave intact but, some would come back. Some of you came here because you had done something horrible In your past and had sought an escape. Some others because they wanted to belong. And as such I expect that some would return.

For you who remain before me, It is time you took your oath, it is time you became combatants for the yin Yang clan.
