Chapter 11 - Passing

A month passed quickly and we were now in the final quarter of school. My friend Isla and I sat together talking at lunch "So audra, have you met Malik yet." She says gesturing to Ajax and another guy sitting down at our table. I shook my head no, my hair swishing back and forth. He was cute. He was tall and toned, but not to muscular. He has a sharp jaw line and beautiful caramel skin. His thick curly brown hair falling into his deep chessnut eyes. My heart started to flutter as I stared into them. My face flushed in embarrassment as I noticed I was staring. He let out a deep chuckle. "Like what you see?" He grined flashing his perfect smile, his plump lips parting slightly. My face was burning, as I struggled to come up with an answer. "It's ok, you alone can stare all you want." He says softly breaking the tension. I choke on my words as I just nod my head. Isla shoots him a glare to which he throws his hands in the air as a mock surrender. "Don't pay attention to him. He likes to joke around." She says. I nod and akwardly start eating my food. "So Malik, how was traveling to a new country?" Sam asked. Malik looked over at me, and cleared his throat. "It was good, I got to participate in one of the local festivals, which was cool." He responded. Conversation continued and soon the bell for lunch rang and we all headed to our next period. Isla and I walked together towards our Advanced Trig class. "So Audra, did you maybe want to hang out this weekend?" She asked. "Sure I can hang on Saturday." I say. Her face lights up and she gets all giddy. "Oh then maybe we can have a sleepover on friday, and then go to the mall on Saturday." She said excitedly. I smile, "Ok, but I can't get anything from there. I'm trying to save up for a car." I state. "Oh, dont worry. I got that handled." She says slyly, pulling out a metal black credit card from her purse. My eyes go wide in shock, "Isla! Where did that come from, are you rich secretly and didn't tell me." I whisper yell. "Shh, keep it down. I stole it from Malik." I furrow my eyebrows, "So his family is rich, rich?" I ask confused. "Oh dear, do you not know?" She asks. "Know what?" I say back. "That he's the Prince?" She remarks. I gasp astonished as we take our seats in the class room. She sets her bag down, "You seriously didn't know?" She says taking out our notes. "Isla, I've only been in this country for a few months. I knew there was a King. Just not that he had a son our age, let alone what he looked like, and that he went to our school." I shot back, defending my obliviousness. She slapped her forehead in frustration. "All you needed to do was a quick internet serch, dummy." She said pulling out her phone and typing something in. Then she flashed me her phone screen, who are the royal family of corentin? I roll my eyes. There he was. An actuall prince. "GIRLS!!" Our teacher, Mr. Baker, barks. Isla turns around sharply to face the front, her hair slapping her in the face. We wore sheepish grins as the teacher yells at us for not paying attention as the rest of the class snickered. We finish the class in silence and we part ways to our next class. School is over soon and Kai picks me up and we head home. We ate dinner together and I headed up to my room to do some homework. After I was finished with my homework I grabbed my book and headed downstairs. I stepped out onto the porch just as the sun dipped down under the horizon. I breathed in the fresh air and let out a big breath. I curled into the porch swing draping a blanket over my lap. I rocked myself back and forth as I turned page after page until to my immediate dismay I fliped to the last page and it read, To be continued . . . I huff in frustration as I look around me. It was now pitch black, the only light coming from our singular porch light. It created a dimly lit path out to the forest where it stopped just shy of the tree line. I look into the forest trying to see if anything was there. I bravely stood up, ready to head back to my spot. I turn on my phone flashlight and make my way towards the forest. As if following a map from my dreams I walk off the path and towards another. I kept walking and eventually I heard it. The flowing sound of water, I push away some branches and there it was. The waterfall I had been dreaming about. It was real. I wonder at how I somehow knew of every detail, each rock placement. And even the wolf. He sat there sleeping on a rock by the riverside. His speckled fur somehow gleaming. His ears twiched as I approached and his massive head shot up and his gentle eyes met mine. I felt a flutter, the same one as from when I looked into Malik's eyes. The same softness and caring gaze was returned to me as we looked into each others eyes. He slowly stood his head the same height as mine. My he was big, but somehow not scary. He walked closer to me his large paws thundering the ground. He stood in front of me, the bottom of his mouth reaching the top of my head. I gulped back my fear as he shook his body. His fur sparkling from the water droplets that sprayed from the falling water. He Lowers himself to the forest floor the grass blades brushing against his fur. He looked at me as if to say it was ok. I situated myself beside him on the grass as he sets his giant head in my lap. A familar warmth spread across my body as I felt myself melt underneath him. I place my hand atop his head feeling his fur in between my fingers. It was wirey yet soft. It felt clean and not caked with dirt like I had imagined. He sighed under my touch. We sat for awhile and eventually I laid on his side and fell asleep.
