In Orion district, city of Metropolis, Orion College of General Education. The education system of Metropolis accepts students of five years and above. Before then, they usually attend a nursery, which then gives out a certificate of attendance, but that's not a big deal as it would be the primary education that'll matter most in the future of the child. That is where they learn to read, write, know the history and geography of their home city. There is the private sector and the public sector of this education level but the public sector is the most recognized, the private sector depends on the name of the person, family, or organization providing the education which is usually better than the public sector but as I said before it's the most recognized sector as it can be easily validated.
Orion College of General Education, which happens to be in a district of the upper middle class and one of the best schools in Metropolis, happens to have a diversity of students from different backgrounds.
In Class 6, six out of the 12-year program, an exam class to enter the enter Secondary Sector, there are a hundred and four students who have the time of their lives discussing the events that happened during their weekend. A young boy stared at the sports field from the window as he listened to some music on his earphones, drowning out the noise that the class generated. He stared at the kids playing football as they ran across the field with much focus as the coach repeatedly shouted instructions every thirty seconds.
'Are they even having fun?' Zephyr asked himself as he breathed out, causing a mist to cover the window, which dissipated as quickly as it was formed. And continued staring at them, at the field, the frozen ground, and the cold air they breathed out as they ran around the field.
He was called out of his thoughts when someone tapped him. He turned to see a strange person sitting next to him. He removed his right earpiece as he raised his eyebrow questioning her action.
"What happened to the person that sits here?" She asked as leaned closer to him with very expressive eyes that shone with the vibrance of youth in contrast to the young lad with a weared-down expression having no interest with whatsoever was going on around him at the moment. He did not answer, he just turned back to look at his window as if no one had spoken to him before.
"It was an empty seat so I will take it." She replied after she stared into his eyes for an awkward amount of time before breaking the silence and sitting on the empty seat next to him as she removed her books for the last class of the day. "The teacher has been teaching for a while now." She said as she pointed her thumb at the direction of the board which was a distance away as they were sitted on almost the last bench of the class."And I know I am late for the class which never happens."
He did not say anything as he put back his earphones and stared back at the window, looking at different things that were going outside, totally uninterested in the class. She stared at him a couple of times as the class went on, but he did not spare her a glance. At three sharp, the bell rang, and the teacher walked out of his noisy class, he could not help it- the class was small for 104 students and they could hardly hear him without a microphone. Zephyr quickly slung his backpack on as he walked out of the class, and she stared as he disappeared into the crowd of students leaving the classroom.
Someone quickly sat on her table blocking her view; " Hi, my name is ..." As they threw their body weight in front of her as they sat on her desk.
"I have to go now." She said as she packed her things into her backpack.
"You are the transfer student." He said as he played around with the pen in his hands. "What happened you came late today?"
"Yes, and have been for a while now." She said as she started walking away. "I do not have to explain my every step to everyone, do I?"
"You know you won't get his attention with the way you behave?" He said as he caught up with her.
"And what will I do with his attention?" She asked.
"Good point." He muttered under his breath and left in the crowd.
"Why would I farm for his attention?" Seraphina added as she threw a disgusted look at him.
"Fine, I get your point." He mumbled under his breath as he left her.
She swallowed her spit with difficulty as she neared the school entrance. It was evident that whatever she would meet outside was not something she wanted to do any time soon.
Outside there were groups of students that were walking together out of the gate and cars that were picking up other students from rickety cars to luxurious cars. She saw the guy who was talking to her before calmly walking to a luxurious brown vehicle with tinted windows. From the corner of her eye, she saw Zephyr enter a luxurious black vehicle with tinted windows that were in the parking lot in front of the school building. She stood at the entrance and watched one of the cars leave the school compound. She would have loved to have her own driver pick her up in her own car but this is the life she had been given what was she to make of it?
"Do you know them?" A sweet voice startled her making her jump impulsively. Such an opposing reaction to the sweetness that graced the voice. "What are their names??"
"I do not know." She replied as she stared at the ground and bit her lower lip and tongue in anxiety and darted her eyes away from the lot, staring at the group of children walking back home, her league of students. How dare she admire something that could never happen?
"After all the time you've spent locked up all day with them, you don't know their names?" Circe said with disappointment and disgust evident on her face laced with the poisonous sweetness that oozed out of her mouth as she stared down at her eleven-year-old daughter.
