He heaved a sigh and turned to Anna. She was really mad at his nonchalant attitude. If I were in her shoes, I would be so mad, but he doesn't seem to care. I felt uneasy because of her eyes. She was giving me this hard look that would make one squint. I don't want to be here. I don't want to be with them, but Adrian won't let me go either.
The waiter brought our food, and that was it. The table was too quiet, and I was the reason why this was happening. If only he would listen to me and let me go, but he won't let me leave. I ate my food quietly while Anna tried to start up a conversation, but Adrian was too busy with his food to even care. He kept checking his wristwatch. I guess he is trying to keep to time. I remember him saying he would spend only two hours here, and it's already an hour gone.
Anna dropped her cutlery, making a sound in the process. "I don't like the fact that you don't listen to me. What have I done to make you treat me this way? Please don't do this to me, Adrian."
"You know how much I love you. You know how much I really cherish you, and you are just being unfair to me. Why do you want to see me break? Why? What have I done to deserve this?" she asked, annoyed with his attitude towards her.
"The fact that I came here means that I respect you and respect the relationship our parents shared, but I can see you don't get that. I've told you before, and I'll tell you again. I don't want to be in a relationship with you. I don't want that. How many times do you want me to keep saying this?"
"You can go for anyone you want, but that person isn't me at all. I'll take my leave now. I have something important to do at the office," he said, and then she reacted differently.
"Is it because of her?" She asked, pointing at me with anger. She got up and was yelling, "Is it because of this gold digger? Is that why you don't want to be with me? I've waited long enough to be with you, Adrian. You know how much I love you."
"I didn't ask you to love me, Anna. I told you right from the start that I don't want to be tangled with any relationship. You didn't listen, so this is something you did to yourself. Don't blame anyone for it," he said and gave me a look. "Let's go," he ordered, and he need not tell me twice. I got up, and we went away, leaving his angry girlfriend.
Now I feel so guilty. But it's not my fault, right? He knew her right before I started working for him. He must have been rejecting her since she started pushing herself on him. Now I got dragged into this.
"Get in the car. I have to be at a hotel. There is a meeting going on there," he said to me. I knew nothing about this meeting, but I obeyed. I'm sure it must be an urgent meeting or something.
We got to the hotel.
****
We were directed to the lounge, where we met several people staring at us. I hate the fact that some gave me this rude look, like I was a nobody. Some of the ladies think I was his girlfriend or something, because I don't understand the way they were all staring at me.
Asher saw one of his friends, I think, because he waved at him and the friend came over. It's a party, and he said he had a meeting. Why didn't he just let me go home? I need to be on my bed. It's late, and I'm hungry. I was able to finish my food at the restaurant.
I leaned closer to him and said, "You should have just told me to go home. I don't want to be an intruder."
He rolled his eyes at me but didn't listen. His friend came closer and was so excited to see Adrian.
"Hey, man! It's been a while. Where have you been?" They did their bro hug while I stayed behind them as they reunited. I folded my arms over my chest as I watched them talk. I felt so uneasy because I wasn't dressed for this event. I still had my corporate wear on. I really needed to change or something.
Adrian's friend noticed me. He whispered and said, "Is she your girlfriend?" I was already shaking my head, but Adrian shocked me by saying, "Yes."
Suddenly, he drew me closer by the waist, making me the most confused person right now. The shock was evident on my face. He leaned in and whispered in my ears, "Don't act stupid. Play the role."
The shocked look turned to a grimace. I tried to smile, but I'm so sure it came out as a grimace. "Hi," I said to this friend.
"What a gorgeous woman you have, man. I've always known you to have a good eye for ladies, and you chose the best out of them," he praised, and I felt so out of place.
Adrian leaned closer and pecked my cheeks, making me blush in the process. "She is the best thing that has ever happened to me," he lied.
"By the way, I'm Luca," he said, offering me his hand for a handshake. I took it and shook his hand. He seemed like a nice man. If only he knew that Adrian was lying to him about us dating.
"Olivia is the name," I said with a smile on my face.
He chuckled. "It's so nice to finally meet you. Thanks for keeping this man on his toes," he joked.
I nodded. "Don't mention it."
"Come, we need to party," Luca said and dragged us to get some drinks.
