Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Adrian was adamant that I must bring him the files. I had no option but to take them. One thing was clear: I needed to put on a mask. I really didn't want to be recognized. Yeah, shock of my life. I didn't want to see any of my family. I didn't want my cover to be blown.

I went with the company's car. I had been given permission to use it in case of any emergency. The driver was always ready to drive. I told him where we were headed, and he drove. In the car, I was so worried. I didn't want anyone to find out who I truly was. What was I going to do now?

I tried to calm myself down. The ride seemed like a long one, and it was just a twenty-minute ride, according to the driver. I put on my mask because we were almost there. The car finally came to an abrupt stop. "We are here," said the driver.

I peeped through the window and saw that we were indeed there. There were lots of cars parked outside. What was I going to do now? What if my family saw me? What would happen to me now? I put on my mask and got out of the car. The driver left immediately, while I continued my journey inside the building.

It was a huge house. Adrian was so rich. I didn't know how he managed to pull this off. Yes, his father was a billionaire too, but he also had money he had made on his own. I shook off the thought. It was none of my business. I came here to bring him files, and that was it. I tried to tell myself.

I got to the entrance and was stopped by the guard. They asked me who I was looking for, and I informed them I was told to come here. They gave me a look, then proceeded to call Adrian to confirm. Adrian must have said something to him, because they allowed me to go into the house.

I was clearly aware of my surroundings. I didn't want to be met with the shock of my life. I was shown to his office. Yes, I met people inside. There were lots of them. Since I was wearing a mask and didn't want anyone I knew to see me, I didn't give them any looks. I followed the maid who escorted me to his office.

The maid left, and I knocked on the door. I heard him saying, "Come in," and I went inside. Adrian didn't even look up to see who it was. I guess he knew it was me.

"Good day, sir," I greeted politely.

"Come have a seat," he said, and I went to have a seat, just as he asked me to.

He asked for the files, and I gave them to him. Adrian took them and went through them. I don't know what I was thinking; I couldn't take my eyes off him. He looked so gorgeous right now. There was something about Adrian that got me so drawn to him. I didn't know why, but I just couldn't get enough of him.

He looked up, almost catching me red-handed. I pretended as if I wasn't staring at him. I don't know if he noticed, but he didn't say anything.

"Is this the only thing I have to sign?" he asked, and I nodded.

"Yes, sir."

"It's Adrian," he corrected.

Did I just hear right? He wants me to call him by his name? How is that even possible?

"Huh!" He gave me a look. "I saw you staring at me."

My cheeks turned pink instantly.

"I...I wasn't staring at you, sir."

He chuckled. "You mean I'm lying?"

I shook my head. "No, sir! I wasn't staring at you."

"That means I am lying, then," he said with a cocked brow.

I swallowed hard, scared of saying something that might get him angry. I didn't want to be the reason he would be angry before his bride came.

He pushed the file back to me, and I picked it up.

"I'll take my leave now," I said to him and was about to leave, but he stopped me.

"Did I say you could leave?" he asked, and I gave him a confused look. "I thought you were done."

He rose from his chair and walked to my seat. Adrian dragged my chair in front of him and asked, "Why did you put on a mask?"

I didn't see that question coming. "I...I was having a cold, so I decided to put it on."

"Are you sure?" he asked, and I nodded my head furiously. He can't find out why I was putting on the mask. He can't find out. I can't make him find out.

"Please, sir, can I leave? I have somewhere I have to go," I asked.

He raised a brow at me. "No, you're going nowhere."

"But, sir..." I tried to say, but he stopped me.

"I don't want to hear anything else. This is my wish, and you shall abide by it. You'll stay until the party is over," he insisted.

"But, sir, this is your party. I don't want to be a hindrance," I tried to say.

"You are my guest," he said, and I gave him a look.

"Please, sir, I need to leave. My friend needs me right now, and I promise to be back home."

"Who is the boss here?" he asked all of a sudden.

"It's you," I said, giving up.

"Good. Now you must obey what I say to you. If I ask you to stay, then you must stay. This is what I pay you for, so you must do as I say."

I had no choice but to obey. I don't want to lose my job.

"Okay, sir."

"Good. Now, take off your mask. I don't want you to put it on," he commanded.

I gave him a look of shock. "I can't do that, sir. I have a serious cough."
