Sophie Lawrence was a little surprised at Henry Mitchell's sudden concern.
She shook her head and said softly, "No more."
Henry Mitchell's eyes darkened, his lips tightened, and he said no more.
After Mrs. Sang had mastered the use of the massage chair, the two were ready to go back.
After getting out of the elevator and walking a few steps, suddenly they heard a burst of crying not far away. Out of professional instinct, Sophie Lawrence glanced in the direction of the sound, and her steps instantly froze. Almost without thinking, she rushed towards that side.
Henry Mitchell frowned and looked up in the direction where Sophie Lawrence ran. This glance made his heart suddenly clench. He saw a child hanging on the iron frame of the balcony window on the third floor of that building. The child's neck was stuck in the iron railing, and that fragile little life seemed as if it could disappear at any time. Danger loomed like a thick haze.
When Sophie Lawrence arrived, she immediately asked anxiously, "How long has the child been hanging there?"
"About four or five minutes," the onlookers quickly replied. "We called 119 as soon as we discovered it, but it will still take time for the firefighters to arrive. Alas."
Sophie Lawrence looked at the child's family members who were hanging their heads and stamping their feet anxiously beside her, and without hesitation, she immediately stepped forward to check the place where the child was hanging. In just a few short seconds, Sophie Lawrence had already figured out a way to deal with it in her mind.
She resolutely started climbing up towards the third floor along the water pipe beside the wall. This scene made many onlookers gasp. When Henry Mitchell hurried over, Sophie Lawrence had just climbed to the place where the child was hanging. Henry Mitchell's heart was immediately in his throat. Sophie Lawrence had no safety protection measures on her. If she fell, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Someone at the scene had an idea in a moment of desperation and brought an unused curtain from home. Everyone quickly rushed forward and worked together to stretch the curtain open, waiting on standby below in case of any accident. Henry Mitchell also involuntarily walked forward and became one of those holding the curtain.
Sophie Lawrence carefully moved to the iron frame where the child was, held the child up steadily with one hand, and used all her strength with the other hand to pull the iron frame apart. After all this trouble, Sophie Lawrence was already soaked with sweat, and her clothes were tightly stuck to her back.
Fortunately, the child's head was not big and soon slipped out of the space that Sophie Lawrence had pulled open. Seeing that the child was successfully rescued, a cheer immediately rang out below.
Sophie Lawrence held the child in one hand and propped herself on the water pipe with the other, slowly sliding down. After landing, the child was immediately tightly hugged by the family members. The child's grandmother was so excited that she knelt down to Sophie Lawrence on the spot, with her eyes full of grateful tears, and said in a trembling voice, "Thank you! Thank you!"
Sophie Lawrence quickly stepped forward and gently helped the old lady up with both hands, saying, "I'm also a firefighter. Saving people is my duty."
The old lady stood up following Sophie Lawrence's strength, still chanting, "Thank you, thank you..."
Seeing that Sophie Lawrence was safe and sound, Henry Mitchell's originally tense mood suddenly calmed down, but the worry that had just dissipated in his heart was soon replaced by another complicated emotion. Before doing this, Sophie Lawrence hadn't considered herself at all, let alone the fact that there might already be a little life in her womb at this moment!
When the onlookers gradually dispersed, Sophie Lawrence noticed Henry Mitchell standing aside waiting silently. Looking at the expression on Henry Mitchell's face, her face suddenly turned pale, and Mrs. Sang's words suddenly flashed through her mind.
Sophie Lawrence hurried forward, wanting to explain, "I..."
Henry Mitchell stared at her coldly, his thin lips slightly parted, and coldly interrupted her, "Sophie Lawrence, you are always so selfish."
After saying that, he turned around and left without hesitation, without looking back.
Sophie Lawrence stood there blankly, constantly replaying Henry Mitchell's words in her mind.
Was she selfish?
Sophie Lawrence's hand involuntarily touched her abdomen. Her heart skipped a beat, and immediately she ran towards Henry Mitchell, her steps flustered and hurried.
Just as she was about to catch up, suddenly, her calf cramped. With an "Ah", Sophie Lawrence fell to the ground. She noticed that the person in front had stopped. Looking up, her eyes directly met Henry Mitchell's deep and cold eyes.
The two stared at each other for a while, and Henry Mitchell remained expressionless all along.
Finally, Sophie Lawrence was the first to lower her eyes. She raised her hand to rub her cramped calf, and suddenly an uncontrollable sense of grievance welled up in her heart, and the corners of her eyes turned slightly red.
