Chereads / The Undead system / Chapter 27 - God of death

Chapter 27 - God of death

Jack's eyes slowly fluttered open in the swamp wasteland. His vision a bit blurry, with the stinging headache piercing his head. Sitting up straight his body ached all over in pain, from the previous battle with the skeletons.

[Congratulations user on defeating a rank f skeleton.]

The system notification popped up in his view. Staring at it he was a bit surprised and confused at the same time. He was surprised, because the system alerted him he'd killed those skeletons.

When fighting the skeleton's, he was exhausted both physically and mentally. His vision blurry as he was losing consciousness. Until his system came to his aide, and everything happened so fast.

'Is there some kind of ranking order?' Jack thought staring at the f-rank, the system classified the skeleton as. He had a hunch how ranking system worked in games, so he had a hunch.

[Congratulations on your first real battle host.] The system voice spoke in his head.

'Huh? T-thanks I guess.' Jack inwardly replied, not expecting the system to congratulate him.

Attempting to stand up the system voice interrupted him once again. But this time he could sense a hint of anticipation, and excitement in it's tone.

[I'd suggest you check your profile first. You might need to sit down for this.] Nodding jack was wary, but still adhered to the systems advice.

'Profile.' He telepathically commanded, and a black holographic screen with red words materialized before him.

Looking at the screen, he was overwhelmed with joy seeing he'd levelled up to 7. as per the reward for the quest completion.

"That's new." Jack muttered staring at the new tab labelled as class. He knew he was an undead but it was strange, as the tab wasn't there before. He could also see a not classifiable, attached to his undead class. Which he related to the ranking order by the system.

'My stats doubled.' Jack slyly grinned like a lottery winner, seeing his stats more than doubled. Scrolling down he also noticed some incredible changes. Like his hp was now at a hundred, and his body state was 60% of his hp.

'I also have some free stat points.' He smiled reserving them for later. Glancing on, a frowned formed on his face staring at his title section.

"Why is there a locked attached to walker of worlds?" Jack roared demanding an explanation. At first he'd thought it was a glitch, but trying to access it only led to an error message.

"Because I locked it." A voice snapped him from his thoughts. Getting up he was on high alert, as that was no doubt the strange omnious old man. He looked to be alone without his black cat.

"Congratulations on your victory. To be honest I never thought you would survive, but seems you proved me wrong again." The old man smiled sending shivers down Jack's spine.

'There it is again.. that strange energy oozing from him.' Jack struggled to breathe, feeling the air around suddenly plummet. 'Just who is he?'

"For defeating the skeleton you've earned the right to ask me one question. And as a being, I plan to keep by my word so ask away." He gently uttered his eyes staring at jack with an excited glint.

Not averting his gaze jack thought of what to ask this mysterious man. He had a million and one questions to ask, but was limited to just one.

"Who are you?" Jack boldly asked, intently staring at the old man with a calm expression. He'd chose to ask this question as it wasn't direct, like who he was or his name. But focused on his entire identity.

"Wise choice." Flashing a light smile the old man pointed at jack.

"Guess." He playfully spoke, his tone charming and alluring yet containing a dangerous vibe to it.

Frowning, jack was getting tired of this old mans charades. He'd just risked his life in a life or death battle for a single question. And now, he was asked to guess the answer to that same question?

'Well he isn't normal that's for sure.' Jack thought placing his hand on his chin. No human possessed such strange powers, as it wasn't just normal. He could also tell he wasn't a ritualist or shaman, as he was on an entirely different level.

[He referred to himself as a being so he must be a powerful entity.] The system hinted causing jack to raise a brow.

'A powerful entity? like a god?' Jack inwardly exclaimed. He hadn't thought about it before but now that the system mentioned, it sounded plausible.

'But how? Aren't gods meant to be myths in fantasy stories?' he asked but received no further reply from the system. It wasn't making any sense to jack, as everything that happened these past day was hard to comprehend.

"Come on boy don't keep me waiting." He calmly spoke with a dominating aura that made jack shiver.

'I-if he's truly a god then am screwed.' Jack's eyes widened, at the possibility of this scruny old man being a higher being.

"Based on your strange powers and your weird clothing choices I can tell you're god." Jack uttered trying his best to breathe under his suffocating aura. Staring at him weirdly the man didn't utter a word. A crazed sly grin tugging on his lips.

"Bingo!" The man's smile widened causing a gasp to escape Jack's mouth. He didn't want to believe it before. The possibility of standing before an actual god, capable of destroying planets was absurd. No! it was like a bedtime story told to little children.

"B-but how? Why? What do I have to do with all these?" Jack questioned, his mind racing on different possibilities how this was even possible.

"Ugh! ugh~ only one question remember?" The old man smirked slightly shaking his head. "As per your question, I am what is called a higher entity. In human terms I think it's god." He indifferently said like it was nothing.

Hearing him jack suddenly felt a cold sensation wash over. He was wary of this old man before but now he was just terrified. As he wasn't talking to a strange being, but a freaking god!

"But.. am not just any god." The old man continued with a smug grin plastered on his face. "Am what you call one of the higher class celestial gods." He proudly declared, his chest puffed out a bit.

"Throughout time I have been referred to as many names. God of death, harbinger of destruction, plague spreader, ruler of souls." He listed and jack couldn't control his body from shuddering. Not only was he a god, but a celestial god?

He'd never come across such word before, in some books about fantasy characters he'd read. And according to the books he read, there were different types of gods with different powers varing. But they were often classified as yin and yang. Meaning light and dark or good and bad.

'Yep! am definitely screwed.' Jack inwardly thought, hearing this so called god nicknames. There was no doubt he was on the bad categories of gods.

He couldn't seem to guess which god this was, as he wasn't a big fan of myths and gods. And there wasn't any realistic photos or drawings clearly highlighting a god.

"My name is.." he paused, leaving jack on a cliffhanger. His eyes full of anticipation.

"Hades, ruler of the underworld." The old man declared making Jack's eyes widened in shock.

"No way~ Hades as in the hades? god of death and destruction, also the brother of the strongest god zeues?" Jack couldn't believe his ears. Never in a million life times would he have expected to be standing before hades, the apocalyptic god.

"You may not be prepared for this but there's no time." Hades spoke again this time in a more serious tone. "For centuries we have watched you humans, one of our creations progress. I honestly never thought much of you, but my brother on the other hand saw you mortals as his prized possession."

"You know.. it's funny cause I always tried annihilating your species but never got the chance. But now an ancient evil, far above the gods threatens to be awakened." Jack could see the change in hades expression, and the direness in his tone.

"An ancient evil? What does that have anything to do with me?"

"You hold the key jack Anderson. That is why you must no longer be permitted to travel back to your previous world. It will only limit you." Stretching his hand a black hole formed some meters behind jack. It pulsed with a terrifying energy, sucking everything in this place into it.

"B-but-"

"Silence!" Hades yelled his eyes glowing red. Jack's body immediately went lifeless, his body succumbing to the power of a god.

"You'll be transported to a different world with different species in it. Get stronger and make me proud. My eyes are on you jack anderson." With that Jack's body was sucked into the black hole, transported at the speed of light through the dark space.
