Synopsis
A breathing bone. That’s what the nurses called the patient lying down at the end of the hospital’s left wing. Far from the crowd and not supported by any life supporting machine. Abandoned and waiting for death. But death seems to avoid the man. Days. Weeks. Months. For eight years since the man was admitted in the hospital, he stayed lying down without any food or antibiotics… alive. With almost nothing but his organs, wrinkled skin, and bones, the man continuously breathed on top of that unchanged hospital bed that was left like that in fear that they would break the man if they tried to move him even for a bit. His curious case piqued the scientific community but no one can decipher what’s actually happening to the man’s body. Until his ninth year came. And the hospital fell from a massive earthquake. Gladly, in his ninth year, the breathing bone died.

Chapter 1 - Epilogue

Well… there's the sound of music flowing from the church behind him. People are singing to the song "Hail Lord" being played by the cardinal himself on the platform. Is it a song of praise or warning? Even from outside Rozes can feel the tingling from his spine that was caused by the chilling music.

"Fv…ck off. Let's… k–kk- acchk- g-get out of here?"

Rozes stared at the monster in front of him. Tall as a tree and almost bones, the man's bulging eyes are staring intently at him, waiting for his words.

It cracked its neck and touched Rozes' face while gritting its teeth.

"U..ugh g-give me…aaah… haaah… meat."

Annoyed at the creatures' request, Rozes slapped the creature he called Quirio.

"Can't you wait? I'll give it to you. Just wait."

And Rozes faded to the darker part of the church's side.

"What are you saying we need to close down the investigation? Captain! The culprit is out there and having the time of his life killing all these countless people. Are we even sure that these 32 kids are the only victims? There are probably more out there. Have we ever considered the slums bef–"

"Enough of this Grayson."

Captain Wildern looked threateningly at Lieutenant Grayson Orton. He raised his hand in an attempt to slap the hard-headed nephew but stopped midway when the door behind him opened. It is Sunita, the most-recently hired secretary in their branch office.

"What do you want?" Captain Wildern asked Sunita.

"I apologize for the interruption, Captain. But I think you need to see this man personally first."

"Who?"

Sunita glanced at the paper she's holding before looking back again to Captain WIldern to answer his question.

"He introduced himself as Rozes. Rozes Haygrave."

—------

Inside the interrogation room, Rozes sat quietly while fiddling the tips of his fingers. His dark unkempt hair that's long enough to reach his shoulders was hiding half of his face that's now as pale as a white sheet. Lips trembling and feet tapping, Rozes is ready to jump and run whenever he feels the need to. And since Sunita left him to call the captain, the anxiety within him grew even larger.

"You say this kid knows–"

"Save me!"

"Woah!"

The two officers behind Captain Wildern gasped at the intense energy the kid was giving off right away when they went into the interrogation room.

"Save me! Please, I beg you," Rozes pleaded to Grayson as he clung to the sleeve of Grayson's coat while trembling. "I…I know who killed t-them…" he reasoned out in hope that they will start listening to his story if he is somewhat useful for them. "But…b-but, please save me. I know. I know I am next. He's mad. He's…"

"AAAAAAAAH!"

Inside Rozes' head, the image of Quirio, getting angry at him keeps appearing up. He knows for sure that sooner or later, he will be the person that Quirio will devour.

"Quirio…that…that monster will eat me up."

And he fainted.
