The instructor made the first move; he charged at Alex, but he didn't use his full speed or strength. He slashed down.
Alex didn't know what to really do, but he understood that he needed to block that attack, so he lifted his blade.
Both blades collided, and his hands were immediately numbed. He was forced a step back, managed to stop himself, and tried to get back into his stance.
But the instructor had already launched at him again. Alex moved again; his movement was wonky, but it managed to block the sword, though he was pushed back again.
Alex tried to stabilize himself, and when he did, he started breathing heavily.
"Is that the best you have to offer? Can this sort of fighting save anyone?" the instructor said. He said this normally without any underlying plot.
But Alex heard it differently. He got hit with those words, recalling his weakness and what it had caused to the people around him.
The darkness in his body pulsed wildly. He looked up and charged at the instructor at full speed. The instructor was shocked at that burst of speed.
But he still moved to block Alex, but Alex dodged at the last moment with an impossible movement, one that would surely break a normal person.
And that was when the instructor knew something was wrong. He turned around and looked at Alex, noticing that Alex's eyes had turned black.
He immediately knew he had to knock Alex out or something bad would happen. The instructor moved faster, dodged Alex's next attack, and then used the broad side of his sword to slam the back of his head, knocking Alex out.
He immediately picked Alex up and then faced the class.
"Alex is not too well. We will continue the class after I return from the nurse's office," he said and left the room.
He headed through the hallways and found the nurse's office. He knocked on the door and walked in.
One of the nurses was there and immediately saw the instructor bringing Alex. She ran up to him.
"What happened to him?" she asked, already taking Alex from his hand.
"His eyes went black, and he started going somewhat savage, with higher physical abilities than normal," the instructor said.
"I see. His darkness started raging. It's good that you stopped him early. But this is actually weird," the nurse said.
"Weird? How?" the instructor asked.
"Well, you see, it seems after he was knocked out—I'm assuming you knocked him out," she said, and the instructor let out a nervous chuckle.
"His body suppressed the darkness. Normally, after knocking him out, it would only stop him but wouldn't stop the raging darkness. Yet his body stopped its own.
I'll have to run some tests. You can come back later to check on him," the nurse said. She then noticed a cut on the instructor's arm.
"You have a cut," she pointed out. The instructor looked at his arm and saw that he was bleeding. It shocked him immediately—when did he get cut?
He recalled Alex's final attack before he knocked him out. That could be the only explanation for this.
"I could help you clean it up," the nurse offered.
"No, I'm fine. Just take care of him; I'll go now," he said and walked out of the room.
As he stepped outside and shut the door, he looked at the wound on his arm and then noticed a black coloration happening around the cut.
And it caused a lot of pain, but for some inexplicable reason, he decided not to worry about it. He had been through far more in war and had survived.
The nurse watched the door even after the instructor left. She didn't know why, but she felt heavy unease from that wound.
A part of her wanted to call the instructor and ask him to come back and get it treated, but she pushed the thought away. She was just overthinking.
She turned her attention to Alex. She checked his pulse, his breath, and carried out all the physical exams she could.
After a few minutes, she ascertained that his body was fine, so she immediately moved on to the next thing.
As a nurse and health practitioner, she was a hybrid. A hybrid was a being that had an equal amount of light and darkness in them.
They were hard to come across, and so everyone that was born a hybrid was destined to be a health practitioner.
They were so important that if a family hid a hybrid, they would be executed for plotting against humanity.
Hybrids were capable of using light and darkness to balance out the light and darkness of another person. They could sense imbalance and immediately work on balancing it.
The nurse placed her hand on Alex to check for anything wrong, but to her surprise, his system was completely balanced. There was no spike or anything wrong.
She checked for minutes, and when she was certain that nothing was wrong, she stopped. But this case was still highly unusual, so she decided to document it.
She wrote everything down into a journal and then placed it back on the table. She decided to take some of Alex's blood for a test, but as she was about to do that, the door of the room opened, and Ace walked in.
"Doctor Ace," she said.
"Nurse Ann, sorry to stop you here, but this particular student is classified as marine property. We can't have his blood outside for any reason," Ace said.
"Marine property? He is a child, and there is something unusual with him. It might be dangerous. I need to find out and help him," she argued.
"Nurse Ann, this is out of your jurisdiction. This student is marine property. If you touch his blood, whatever information you find from it would be enough to have you killed. You and I are hybrids, and you understand the importance of hybrids.
Yet the information in this boy's blood would surely get you killed," Ace said in a cold voice.
