Chapter 5 - Investigation andSanctuary

The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead as Detective Thomas stepped into the hospital's emergency room, the sterile scent of antiseptic filling the air. The bustling sounds of nurses and doctors attending to patients created a chaotic symphony, but Thomas's focus was unwavering. He was here for a purpose, to uncover the mystery behind the mysterious incident that had brought a young man to the brink of death, leaving him as the only survivor.

As he approached the reception desk, he flashed his badge, and the receptionist nodded, quickly directing him to Room 204. The detective moved with purpose, weaving through the maze of beds and medical equipment. He could hear the murmurs of worried families and the sharp beeping of monitors, each sound a reminder of the fragility of life.

Getting to the door of room 204 he met Mr.Ryker a seasoned instructor at Elyrian Academy, giving him a nod as he walked away from him Thomas opend the door. Upon entering Room 204, he found the young boy lying on the bed, a tangle of wires and tubes connected to various machines. Thomas noted the boy had an expression full of anger. It was clear that something violent had occurred, and it was his job to piece together the events that led him here.

He turned to the attending physician, a weary-looking man in scrubs, who was reviewing the patient's chart. "What can you tell me about him?" Thomas asked, his voice steady but urgent.

The doctor sighed, rubbing his temples. "He was brought in with multiple injuries—blunt force trauma, possible internal bleeding. We have already taken care of his injuries."

Thomas nodded, absorbing the information. He glanced around the room, noting the small details: a seat that seems to be eagerly waiting for him to seat down on, not the one to decline a good deed he took the chair and sat down on it.

"what is your name?" Thomas pressed, looking at the boy.

The boy kept looking at him with a deadpan expression without showing any desire to answer the question posed to him.

"Please cooperate with me, it's for your own good. With your cooperation we would be able to find the person or thing responsible for the destruction of your shelter." Thomas coased as he needed the cooperation of the young boy to uncover the mystery of the lost shelter.

"Dawn" after a brief moments of hesitation he answered.

"Please I would be asking you a few questions and I urge you to answer truthfully" he received a nod from Dawn

"Can you give me an estimate of the number of adults in your shelter."

"47." (eighteen and above)

"Teenages."

"52." (thirteen to seventeen)

"Number of childrens."

"33."

"Judging from the numbers your shelter was a small one."

"Yes it was a refugee camp."

"Ooh" if Dawn's head was currently up he would as seen the look of disappointment and the level of excitement to unravel the mystery behind the destruction if his shelter reducing as the mention of a refugee camp, not it was going to matter to him at all.

Forcing himself to add sympathy in his voice he said "can you describe what happened."

Dawn nodded and began to describe what led to the destruction of his shelter. By the time he was done he was already crying and sobbing but Thomas seems lost in thought to notice "that would all." Standing up he said before leaving 'I have to relay this information to the higher ups as soon as possible'.

"I think you should take some rest"

Nodding Dawn laid back as he watched the doctor walk out of his ward. He stared blankly at empty air fir some minutes before he closed his eyes to rest.

Dawn rest was short lived as he was joted awake just ten minutes after falling asleep.

Dawn opened his eyes groggily only to see Mr. Ryker looking down at him.

"What does this fucker want" Dawn grumbled in his mind.

"It's time to go" pausing he looked at me "get ready, you have twenty minutes" turning he left.

"Going where" I asked confused, but like aways he left without saying a word.

"He talking about the academy" Mr. Lee said in a quite voice

'I didn't even noticed when he walked in' Dawn thought as he looked at the doctor.

'The academy huh, I thought as much' sighing he stood up from the bed, casting his gaze towards the doctor he asked in a tired voice "what will I wear"

"You are already dressed"

"I can't go to the academy like this"

"Yes you can". Dawn glared at him "Don't worry you will be given new clothes at the academy.

"So I am going to go to the academy in this hospital cloth an my undies" he asked scoffing at his words. To which he nodded and baconed for him to go with him.

I walked with him, my surrounding were barely registered in my mind and as I didn't even know when when arrived at the garage there

As I came out of my thought I saw that we had arrived at a garage and looking around i saw cars before turning back to see Mr. Ryker in a black car which looked expensive as he'll.

He beaconed for him to enter the car which he obliged without any trouble because of being mesmerised by the design of the car

'I have never seen anything like it, I have only heard of it in stories' Dawn wondered in his heart

I was awestruck by the complex building and pathways and casting my gaze far ahead I saw mountains which peak I couldn't see. As if sensing me awestruck Mr. Ryker looked at me and said "stop drooling"

"Am not drooling" I said sharply

"Then stop being a country side bumpkin and fix that disgusting expression off your face"

"Are you against happiness"

"No just yours" he replied shrugging his shoulders.

The Sanctuary, a marvel of modern architecture, sprawls across a vast expanse of rugged terrain, seamlessly integrating itself into the majestic mountains that cradle it. This self-sustaining city is a testament to human ingenuity and innovation, where towering peaks and crystal-clear waters converge in harmony.

The Sanctuary is nestled within a series of interconnected mountain ranges, each one a unique blend of granite, sandstone, and limestone. The mountains rise and fall in a dramatic tapestry, with snow-capped peaks giving way to lush forests, sparkling waterfalls, and tranquil lakes.

The city itself is a masterful blend of organic and synthetic elements. Towering skyscrapers, crafted from a unique blend of steel, glass, and a proprietary metal alloy, seem to grow organically from the mountainside. The buildings twist and curve, echoing the natural contours of the landscape.

"This Sanctuary" Mr.Ryker began "is divided into distinct districts, each with its own unique character and charm. The districts are connected by a network of elevated walkways, gravity-defying monorails, and scenic hiking trails". Stopping to take a dramatic pause which made me almost curse at him, "The Spire of Elyria the central hub of the city, home to the Elyrian Academy and the ruling clan of this Sanctuary".

"By the way what is your quirk".
