Chapter 9 - MAKING A MOVE

"I would like to pay for every single thing your kids picked out. I hear they are fifteen in number," the elderly man said directly to Psalm and he nodded while Hazel stood with her mouth agape while holding the orphanage bank card midair to the receptionist.

Were her ears hearing properly?

The very man Psalm pointed earlier to her, saying that he would pay for everything was now asking to pay for real.

She looked at Psalm and found him staring at her with an I told you so look.

And the elderly man brought out his credit card and handed it to the receptionist who did her job.

"Thank you so much Sir!" Hazel and the teenagers were quick to thank the man in excitement.

"It's fine. One of your boys there told me you both are great parents and I just wanted to assist you guys." He said and shrugged.

Funny enough, his words hadn't fully sunk well in Hazel's mind till Psalm said something to match with it.

"I'm sure it's Jeremy. He's a very thoughtful boy. My wife and I are grateful."

The credit card from Hazel's hand fell to the floor as her lips parted.

At this point, she began to wonder if Psalm was actually taking it seriously and not playing around.

After exchanging a few words with the man, Psalm took her hand and walked out of the shop with the teenagers following behind, with each of them happily holding a package of what they selected while conversing with each other.

All Hazel could do was steal glances at Psalm because she felt talking about it may not go in her way. He could say he was just flowing with the moment and deny anything like that.

At that thought, she sighed.

When the teenagers got inside before them, Psalm looked at Hazel and said something she never dreamt he would say.

"Back there, I wasn't just playing around."

Standing before a beautiful house, Kervin frowned as he admired it before taking the step of walking towards it.

When he got to the door, he knocked on it and waited for the owner to answer.

After several seconds, a woman finally answered.

The moment Kervin's gaze fell on her, he smiled because the woman didn't only confirm he was in the right place but the resemblance was maddening, except the woman was chocolate brown in color.

Before him was none other than Hazel's mother who also lived in Rose Vale but far away.

"Who are you?" She grumpily inquired in annoyance.

"Hazel's boyfriend," he swiftly answered and it made the woman scoff.

"Hazel doesn't have one. Even if she dreamt of it it would never happen," she drawled and he chuckled.

"Well, turns out she does and here I am, I'm here to pay my respects like a gentleman," he announced and it made her eye him up and down.

"And how did you find this place?" She inquired while squinting her eyes at him in suspicion.

"Hazel directed me," he lied.

"And why isn't she with you?" The woman demanded.

Sighing, Kervin inched closer and said.

"She said she doesn't want to see you," he responded and it left the woman silent.

As Kervin continued to silently observe her, he realized that her soul was corrupted. She was doomed for hell and he couldn't wait to take it.

"Thank you for paying your respects young man, but you should leave," she dully said.

"But I just got here," he whined.

"Well, that's none of my business. You can go see her father instead," she directed him and was about to close the door when he blocked it with his foot.

"Care to share one or two drugs with me?" He tactfully said while smiling like a maniac and the woman's eyes slightly widened that he knew.

Without saying a word, she simply opened the door and let him in before scanning the surroundings to be sure he was alone.

The moment he walked in and she followed behind, he took in everything. From the pictures on the wall to the furniture and others.

"Sit," she instructed and he eagerly did so like a child.

For a moment, she eyed him before sitting down and opening a container of cocaine.

"I'm not giving for free," she warned.

"And who said I wasn't gonna pay?" He said and took out a bundle of cash from his jacket before dropping it on the table.

And for the first time, she gave him a smirk which he still considered as a smile.

As she poured a small portion on the table, she spoke.

"If Hazel were to date anyone, it wouldn't be someone like you. She's a good girl."

"Well, sorry to burst your bubble miss but we're a thing now," Kervin confidently lied but the woman didn't buy it, she just laughed.

"You're a fine man, I must say that, but you don't have what it takes," she scoffed.

"I have everything it takes," he declared.

"And what's that? You're a great kisser or you're good in bed?"

At her question, he grinned before saying, "I'm everything she wants me to be."

When the woman finished what she was doing, she looked at him and smiled.

"What's your name, young man?"

"Kervin," he answered and took a short straw before leaning to take a sniff of the white stuff on the table.

When he did a quick sniff, he laughed and pushed his head backwards as he enjoyed the sensation.

"What's yours?" He asked.

"Rebecca."

"I'm sensing bad blood. What happened between the two of you?" Kervin boldly inquired.

"We drifted apart," she casually said and poured herself a portion to snuff.

"Or was it because your husband divorced you?"

At that question, the woman gave him a stern look.

Getting up, Kervin smiled as he eyed her.

"You're a badass version of Hazel, I must say that. But it's unfortunate I can't have you anytime soon," with that, he turned to leave.

"Have me? Don't tell me you're interested in elderly women?"

At her confused words, he stopped and corrected her.

"It's a different kind of interest."
