Chapter 5 - ANOTHER DEATH

"I won't be alive so how will I regret my actions?"

Nothing pained Psalm the most than hearing that before the boy took his life with a knife by splitting his throat open.

And while he stood there in silence watching the boy's blood pool around his body, Kervin burst in laughter as he looked at the angel as if to taunt him.

"Look who lost another soul again. How pathetic! You're a disgrace to heaven," he added more fuel to Psalm's temper but the angel didn't bother answering him.

Without saying a word, he turned around while mumbling a short prayer, "Have mercy on the poor soul dear lord."

When he got to the door, Kervin stopped him in a loud voice.

"You must have some sort of attachment with that mortal lady," he pointed out but instead of giving a reply, Psalm gripped the door handle and prepared to step outside.

"Psalm, I'll be sure to keep your name in mind so I can taunt you on and on whenever I'm victorious until you return to heaven," he declared and Psalm vanished from there or he would lose his patience.

One of the other rules was not using their powers on humans, so all Psalm could do was convince the people why they shouldn't take their life or why they should keep believing in God.

So far, the only one he met who was concerned about why God didn't answer was the ten year old boy he met at the beginning of the year while the rest decided to go astray.

Instead of going back to the orphanage home, he went to a nearby church. It was an Orthodox church filled with both black skinned people and whites, respectively.

They were currently preaching but unknown to them, the pastor was a fraud.

Psalm quietly sat down and noticed how a few lowly demons lurked in the church, showing how corrupted it was.

"I love this pastor," a man seated by his side said in excitement.

"Do you? Or you just love the blasphemy you keep hearing?" Psalm asked back and it set the man on edge.

"How dare you say such a thing?" The man asked but Psalm remained mute until the sermon came to an end and he materialized himself in the Pastor's office where no one was.

The pastor was currently counting the church offering without taking note of his presence until he spoke.

"You should be punished," Psalm declared.

"Holy shi…" the pastor nearly cursed but stopped halfway as he looked around for anything to harm the intruder.

"How did you get in?" He inquired.

"That shouldn't be your concern, Zachariah."

At the call of his real name, the pastor gasped in shock.

His pastor's name was Matthew just to cover his past but here was a man who clearly knew him.

"Who are you? What do you want?" He asked in fright.

"Repent and make your ways right. The next time I come here, you won't find it funny," Psalm declared and walked out of his office before teleporting himself out of there to another location.

********

It was getting late and Hazel had to get some stuff from the supermarket for the kids before tomorrow.

The weather was mild and she loved it. When she got to the supermarket, she got a call from one of the aunties at the orphanage home.

"Yes?"

"Haze, we have a problem."

"What happened?" Hazel asked as she suddenly became alarmed.

"The boy you left with his abusive father was found dead in his apartment some hours ago," she informed her and Hazel gasped in horror as she covered her mouth with her hand.

"We need you here because this is serious. Didn't you take him to his mother?" The lady over the phone sternly inquired.

"I did," Hazel answered.

"Then why was he still in his father's apartment with several bruises all over his body? You told us you had this under control."

"I did!" Hazel defended.

"Then care to explain what happened?"

When Hazel said nothing, the lady ended the call.

Devastated, Hazel stood in front of the supermarket looking at her phone in disbelief. She couldn't believe it.

She took the boy to his mother so how? How could such a thing happen?

"Hazel?"

At the call of her name, she looked up and found a man with spectacles walking out of the supermarket.

For a moment she couldn't understand how he knew her name until he got close and realization hit her.

It was Kervin!

"Kervin?"

"I'm glad you still remember my name. What brings you here?" He asked while keenly observing her.

"I…. Well, I'm just ehm…"

She couldn't put her words together as tears began to spill from her eyes.

Kervin frowned on noticing the tears but he didn't bother comforting her.

"Why are you crying?" He asked instead while looking at her weirdly.

"I… I just lost someone," she truthfully said.

"Is that why you're crying?"

At his question, Hazel slowly looked up at him in shock.

How could someone say such a cruel thing?

"Are you seriously asking me that?" She asked back as more tears fell from her eyes.

"Why cry over someone when it's a relief." He said and she blinked at him without saying a word. It was too strange to hear such a thing coming from someone.

"Are you a human at all? Don't you have emotions?" She asked and Kervin shrugged before walking past her while saying, "Nice meeting you anyway."

The shock Hazel was in couldn't be described as she watched the man walk away in silence.

She couldn't believe she put him in high regard on their first meeting. This is why they say don't judge a book by its cover.

When she headed inside the supermarket and went to pick what she wanted, she stumbled upon someone who seemed to have slept off in the shop.

"Hello? Mister?" She nudged the person's shoulder and he fell heavily to the ground without moving.

Frowning, Hazel moved closer and placed her hand on his neck to fill his pulse and color left her face when she felt none.

She quickly distanced herself from him and screamed at the top of her voice.

"AHHHH!!!!!!"

*******

"Oh, how I love the sound of terror," Kervin said to himself while standing away from the supermarket with a pack of chocolate in his hand.

He never expected Hazel to find the body but at the same time it was nice that she found him first.

"It's funny how that angel never showed his face here. What a lazy ass," he chuckled to himself and took a bite from his chocolate.

"Do you know what you just did?"

At that question, Kervin scoffed as he turned to face the angel who materialized himself behind him.

"Look who just showed up when the party ended. That man was already on the verge of death and needed a sense of closure but guess what?" Kervin eagerly asked but Psalm ignored him and continued speaking.

"Before he died, he told God to forgive all his sins and take his soul. That's something you missed, oh foolish demon."

At that revelation, Kervin stopped eating his chocolate as he slowly looked at Psalm.

"What do mortals call it again…" Psalm gave it a thought before saying, "....mic drop."

"You're a liar!" Kervin angrily declared.

"Your brain seems to have missed a screw for saying that to an angel of all people," Psalm taunted him and it infuriated him.

"Fuck you, Psalm!" He cursed and vanished, leaving behind his chocolate which fell to the ground.

Sighing, Psalm looked back at the supermarket with sad eyes. Hazel must be devastated and it would traumatize her for life.

'FUCK HEAVEN, I'LL TAKE THAT MONEY!'

At that sudden remark from an unknown female, Psalm blinked calmly and teleported himself to the location in an instance.

"JESUS CHRIST!" The woman screamed the moment she saw him materialize in her room.

Look who said 'fuck Heaven' not long ago and was now calling on God.

"Who are you! Stay right where you are!" She began to panic as she looked for something to use at him.

This wasn't the first time Psalm met someone like her.

"Do you think that's a good decision? Going into prostitution?" He calmly inquired and she froze in place at that accurate revelation.
