Chapter 13 - An Event In Renville

In a Casino building, one owed by the famous Lux Corporations. Various activities were ongoing, most being midbloods and lowborns blindly losing their hard earned money or otherwise, to them. The casino itself, wasn't popular for any of it's games, from the cards to the dices and boards, among others in which one out of a million, barely won a penny from it.

However, despite the casino bustling with activities, each and everyone going about either filling their pockets or emptying it out. The jesters were busy, so were the charlatans, thieves and otherwise which were exclusively employed by Lux as Renville's security was top notch and impenetrable. But the major excuse for such acts, was it was all business. Yet, none could enter Renville and any of it's brothels or the casino and not successfully leave empty-handed— showing how much they took the business of theirs more than the word 'serious' itself. Well that was the usual for all, except the individuals were of noble backgrounds or one of the important midbloods and rarely, the highly favoured lowborns. Since those types, could access the services of Lux for free, even with their guests though terms and conditions were applied— it was just business mere as they usually.

In all, everyone currently in the large casino had one purpose and goal for being there. A goal which they were so determined to achieve, at the cost of stepping right into a fox's territory. It was the only thing which represented Lux and kept it's name on the top list of the Red-Light District. No event in the other villages could compare to it, for despite their efforts they couldn't match up to this one event. It wasn't just something which attracted men, but also women who could currently be seen in their fitting and also revealing gowns all around— from the older ones and mothers to the young youths.

It was known that, despite having different areas in the large building, a much smaller portion of it had actually been used for the purpose and running of the casino. While the other, which could only be seen when one went past the enclosure of curtains. However, before the curtains, four booths could be seen, each having a guard positioned between them, all also beast also. For they were mercenaries who served the Lux for how long none knew, though it was quite long. So, were charged to ensure ongoings were smooth from those in the shadows of the night, to that in broad daylight.

Though there was a need, to make a pass through the booths in order to enter the upcoming and anticipated event. No one could be seen near the booth as they kept their distance, while keeping an eye and ear out for when the booths would be open. Since there was no other way in, except through the booths. As years of watching and hearing the demise of those who tried to be smarter than all the brains, within the grasp of the Lux Corporations, disappeared without a trace of ever existing— including all related individuals if found.

Waiting eagerly, the movement of one of the guards caught most of the peoples attention. Thus, thinking that the event was about beginning and so the booths were open. A few hundreds of the almost reaching a thousand who were currently in the casino started to move forward. However, that wasn't the case as no orders had been received, since the guard only wanted to scratch an itch at his back. For it was a known tradition that the guards didn't make a move, until the order to announce the start of the event was given.

Eventually, though it was a struggle they managed to repel the crowd eager to get through, using the shrieking and growls of their beasts. Yet, it didn't certify that the cause of the entire situation, wouldn't be also dealt with accordingly.

Thus they Lux was ready, to keep their reputation as one without room for a second chance. For before the mercenary could realize it, a sword went straight through the young man's heart. Drawing it out quickly and without hesitation, it went for another swing down once again. Sending off the Crow Beast to join its rider in death, since they shared an unbreakable bond. Since without a master, it would've gone rogue and that, wasn't something they currently wanted to deal with now, though it was an easy process too.

It was quite much more of a wasted life but who cared, for a minute later after clearing the body, blood and gore with a scroll. Her beast taking the spot of the other's, the order was given to the guards at both ends. So, placing their hand on the beast, each being at the Channeller Category at least. Their various flight and land beasts shrieked and growled loud enough to shake the entire casino. Rendering the entire room silent for a minute, as if someone had died and they were mourning him— though that's what had literally happened. Heads eventually turned towards the booths, with feets beginning to move then soon run, as a stampede erupted. Aware and prepared for this since they knew the usual drill during these chaotic times. The workers in the casino including the free mode users [nobles, important midbloods and whatever lowborns], began to disappear one after the other, ensuring the coins and valuables tagged along. As soon there was nothing but a large crowd scrambling inorder to get to one of the booths.

For one couldn't use the normal currencies at the event, as it was in order to most importantly, protect their assets, both living and nonliving throughout the event. Since some, who were born to be stone throwers, wouldn't hesitate to fly anything at anyone who brought them displeasure— including their money of course. But Lux not only did care about their own assets, but also every single dime they could get their hands on. For weren't ready to let the poor coin, whether bronze, silver or gold to suffer at some bastard's hands. Thus bringing about the sale of tokens, simply painted and made shiny to appear valuable though mere trash. However, it was still considered as currency which could be used to get any of the assets on sale only during the event.

Among the crowd, randomly trying to get a way through to also reach a booth, a dark haired young man could be seen. He didn't stand out and neither were his looks anything beyond average. As he wore a leather armless robe, one which offered a fair amount of protection to a non-spiritualist like himself. Struggling hard like everyone else and barely able to pave a way through. He finally got a way making it past a few praising his sheer luck, only to find himself in one of the usual spaces left in the crowd here or there. Still, this wasn't one of the common farting which had caused the opening, rather it was a live murder scene. As the male sat atop the female, who wasn't moving an inch and was bloodied all over.

Despite weapons not being allowed in the Red-Light District to the extent of it being strictly enforced in Renville, having their storage rings ridden of them. This person had a weapon in his hands or more precisely a brick instead, which was obviously used to have done the deed. Shocked at the unbelievable sight which all ignored and passed by. His soul dashed out of his body, when the armed man stood up, having his gaze fixated on none other him. Petrified and glued to the spot with no one to care less about whatever was about happening to him also. He felt a certain liquid streaming down his legs, as the large figure now stood face to face with him. Raising his hands as he growled like a wild beast, the heavens seemingly had answered his silent prayers. For after the sound of a rock breaking, his attacker took a single step back before dropping down lifelessly meters away. Still, startled the black haired young man slowly turned to look up, curious to catch a view of whatever had hit the other. Only to recognize that, the heavens had answered the prayers of both of them instead.

*BLAM!

*THUD!

*CRACK!

His skull was shattered upon impact against the ground, including the added force and weight of the projectile. Yet, as if three lifeless body couldn't be seen on the ground, the stampede was no way affected. For soon their carcasses joined and became a part of the flooring, being mere stepping stones to reach the goal they also sought after.

As at where the two men had fallen, drawing a line from the body of the dark haired one, all the way up to the roofing. One would notice that the brick roof, above had about four bricks missing, exposing the night sky or so one would obviously think. As rather, what could be seen instead was nothing but, black fur.
