Chapter 35: The Escape
We turned to make our escape, but the leader was too quick. It summoned a group of its most loyal followers, who blocked our path.
"You're not going anywhere," the leader sneered. "You're going to stay right here and watch as I unleash the power of the ancient ones."
Victor growled, baring his teeth. "We'll never let that happen," he snarled.
The leader laughed. "We'll see about that," it said.
And with that, the leader's followers attacked.
We fought hard, but we were outnumbered. I could feel myself getting tired, my muscles aching from the exertion.
Just when it seemed like all was lost, I heard a loud growl behind me. I turned to see a group of our pack members, led by Liam, charging into battle.
The tide of the fight turned in our favor, and soon we had the leader's followers on the run.
We stood panting, surveying the aftermath of the battle. The leader's followers had retreated, but we knew they would be back.
The leader itself was nowhere to be found, but we knew it was still out there, plotting its next move.
"We need to get back to the pack and warn them," Liam said. "We can't let our guard down now."
I nodded in agreement. We had won this battle, but the war was far from over.
