"Nonsense!" Luna Livia said with dissatisfaction. "What about you? Who will take responsibility for what he did to you? My son already slept with you, and he's going to make you his Luna, whether he likes it or not."
"Aunt, please don't be harsh on Mark." She bit her lip. "He's not a bad person. If he had no mate, I'm sure he wouldn't treat me like this. Right now, he's bounded by the mate bond. He could choose her over the pack if you force him too much."
The Luna froze for a moment before she suddenly grew agitated.
It was not common for an Alpha, or his heir, to abandon his pack for a woman, but it happened in the past, where an Alpha inbtgis kingdom abandoned his pack for his mate. It was a shameful, and disgraceful thing.
Markkus was the strongest in his generation, in the whole kingdom. If such a thing happened, where would their Blackmoon pack put their faces? Where would she, his mother, put her face? The shame and embarrassment would be too much for her to bear.
And with how obsessed Markkus was with that omega, he could do that, and none of them could afford for the most potential member of the pack to disappear at this time.
The packs were formulating a plan to come together to dethrone the lycan, so they could be independent. If they succeeded, Blackmoon pack would be the head of the kingdom then.
That was another reason they wanted this marriage with the Redmoon pack. With the first and second most powerful packs in the kingdom coming together as one, who would dare to make trouble for them?
It's not as if the lycan hindered their growth. The reason they wanted to dethrone the lycan, to kill him even, a man who had protected the werewolves of this kingdom for almost a century, was because, every year, each pack paid him homage, bearing one-third of their yearly income, and harvest.
Not only that, the lycan had the power to change an Alphas at will. All the Alphas were scared of having someone above them, who could strip them of their power, status, and title at any moment.
Although he rarely showed himself, as they've not heard or seen him for three decades, his shadow still lurked around the kingdom.
He had people everywhere, and they were scattered in the Elder councils. Those people don't respect the Alphas. They only see the lycan as the true ruler of the kingdom, and this fact irked the Alphas to the bone.
Suddenly, a knock on the door pulled the two women from their wild thoughts.
A maid entered and whispered to the Luna. Her eyes bulged, anger emitting from her as she bolted to her feet.
"Mira, something urgent came up. Go have some rest. I'll have the healer prepare you some medicine."
"Thank you, Aunt," Miranda said and watched the woman leave with a smile. But the moment the door was closed, her grip on her cup tightened and crashed, shattering into pieces. A few shards pierced her palm, but they healed in no time.
She didn't hear what the maid said, but her own spy had mindlinked her, and told her what Markkus did. He kissed that bitch! They've reconciled!
"Mark, don't blame me for this. You brought this upon her," she said to herself.
Her own mate, her brother's beta, was killed, just for this union to hold, so nothing, absolutely nothing would stop her from becoming the Luna of this pack.
That dream that her father has must be fulfilled. The lycan must die, and Markkus must become the ruler of this Kingdom, while she would become his Queen. And when that happen, she would make her father and those involved pay for killing her mate.
ā¦
Markkus and Evelyn returned to the pack, holding hands. Scratch that, Markkus was holding her hand.
"Don't ever play such a game with me next time. The day you try to mention rejection again, I don't know what I'd do to us. Understand?" He said.
Evelyn smiled, nodding her head fervently.
"Good girl. Come here," he pulled her into his arms and buried his face in the crook of her neck, taking in her scent. "My addiction," he said.
"It seems you're the only one who can smell my scent. I've asked others and they said I don't have a scent." Evelyn said when he reluctantly pulled away.
"Oh?" Markkus was surprised. There's never been such a thing. Every werewolf has a scent. Others saying she doesn't have, when she clearly has a unique scent that drives him crazy, could only mean one thing. "It could be that only your mate can perceive your scent."
Markkus smiled, feeling very happy. No wonder other male wolves haven't gone for her. He thought they stayed away because she was his mate.
Because of her unique scent, he forbade her from showing herself in gatherings. Now that he knows he's the only one who could scent it, he was overjoyed.
He kissed her passionately for a while before sending her back to the servant quarters.
After she left his sight, Markkus returned to the pack house, but before he could go to his quarters, his future beta, Ryker, approached him.
"Markkus, the Alpha wants you in his study," he reported.
Markkus nodded. Without questions asked, made a detour to his father's quarters.
"Markkus, I want you to stop seeing that omega. This is an order!" the Alpha said. His voice was firm and commanding, brooking no argument.
Markkus's eyes narrowed slightly, a spark of defiance igniting within him. He had expected this reaction from his father, but it didn't make it any easier to hear. "I'm sorry, Alpha, I can't do that."
"Markkus!" his father thundered, almost bringing the roof down.
However, Markkus stood his ground. Even though his father had used his Alpha voice on him, the young man was almost able to resist him.
"If you defile me, you shall relinquish your rights to become the next Alpha to your brother."
