Chapter 41 - When I Looked at the Water

Rope is actually still a shut-in.

He kind of likes to travel, but he doesn't want to go too far if you really ask him to.

In the end it was just laziness!

"How can you say I'm lazy, Charmander? I'm just thinking that it's almost meal time, so let's all have something to eat and take a break. Look at this place, the wind and sunshine, the birds and flowers, the flowing water, if we can't have a meal here, it would be a blasphemy and disrespect to this beautiful place, this balmy weather! Am I, Rope, the kind of person who doesn't respect nature! That must not be!" Rope had a serious look on his face, while Charmander on the other side of the room was keeping a close eye on Rope in every inch of the way.

At the same time, Rotom was going around taking pictures to put the beautiful scenery into his journey log, Growlithe was buried in fighting with the Pokéblock that Rope had made, and Entei was watching Rope and Charmander with interest, living such a lively, but not noisy life, which he had not experienced in his previous nearly hundred years. He finally understood more or less what those of his kind who willingly passed in the company of human trainers were thinking.

A life like this, where you didn't have to find food on your own, where you didn't have to endure loneliness alone, where you didn't have to be exposed to the sun and the frost and the rain, was a life that very few Pokémon would really turn down.

Of course, Entei knows how difficult his partnership with Rope was to come by.

Is the average person really qualified to take in an Entei?

As one of the Ho-Oh Guardian, every Entei is precious. Each Entei has its own duty, to defend the peace and stability of the region that still believes in Ho-Oh, to find the Rainbow Hero that Ho-Oh admires, and to follow Ho-Oh as a guard. Each of these duties is important, and each is tedious.

This is why Entei was never able to fully recognize Rope before when Rope didn't make it clear that he wanted Entei to be his Pokémon.

Entei has his own responsibilities...

The good thing was that Rope had done the most good and the most credit in this big event, leaving a deep impression on every Legendary Pokémon involved in this matter that they were not to be messed with. That's why Entei was authorized by Ho-Oh to follow Rope and explore his heart.

Ho-Oh wants Rope to be her advocate. Various other Legendary Pokémon seemed to have the same intention, but just didn't have the right reasons to intervene for a while.

At that time, when the Legendary Pokémon got together to discuss the matter, they also brought Rope's belonging to the table for a "peaceful" negotiation.

In the end, the Legendary Pokémon decided that it was up to each of them to decide who was the most capable and who would get the spokesperson.

They simply felt that Rope was capable of doing a good job, and that he would be a good sport about it!

So Ho-Oh let Entei follow Rope, kind of as a little bit of a caretaker to keep Rope naturally close to Ho-Oh's side of the fence. Of course, Entei is also inclined to let Rope choose Ho-Oh. Other than that, a share of the ashes, a small life this deal you do not do?

Entei believes that with Rope's integrity, if he dares to put this chip on the table, Rope will immediately kneel down and say that he was born as a Ho-Oh person, and died as a resurrected Ho-Oh person.

Don't ask, ask and you'll get a picture...

But Entei was also thinking of letting Rope in on the lookout, and each of the other Legendary Pokémon had their own capitals, each of which could give Rope a considerable boost.

Entei hadn't realized that unconsciously, he had started thinking for Rope's benefit.

This is perhaps the bond between a trainer and a Pokémon.

When two genuine hearts open their softest places to each other without any defenses, they can always get to know each other as fast as possible.

But it's also the riskiest approach. If the other person doesn't open his or her heart, but instead stabs a knife, then that person will also be hurt the hardest.

Thinking of this Entei's eyes blazed for a minute, he believed in Rope's vision, but he would still secretly help Rope keep a watchful eye. Rope with this kind of sympathetic approach, once injured what will happen Entei can not even dare to imagine.

Entei drove Rope around, saw Rope's wit and toughness in front of people, and also saw Rope's oh-so-lonely and vulnerable when he was alone.

He would have loved for Cynthia to have accompanied Rope on his travels. That way this Rope guy might be a little happier, because essentially, this guy is a character who is afraid of loneliness.

Unfortunately, she couldn't, because Cynthia had her own responsibilities as well; she wasn't just a girl with a crush on Rope, she was the champion of the Sinnoh League and a pillar of the region.

And so, Entei knows that there are some things that Rope will just have to deal with on her own.

Rope and Charmander were tired of arguing. One person and one dragon lay on the grass, sunbathing with their eyes closed, with nothing but birds and bugs chirping in their ears and gurgling water, and the scent of flowers lingering on their noses.

Entei shook his head as he looked at the one person and one dragon just lying on the ground with a big grin.

Then he yanked a blanket out of his backpack and walked over to Rope's side and laid it down, then bit the back of Rope's collar and dragged him over to the blanket in a daze, then bit Charmander's tail and carried him over, then sweetly posed the dazed one person and one dragon in the same position as they had been in just a few moments before.

Then he went over to Growlithe, who was rolling on the ground after eating, and grabbed him by the back of the neck. Growlithe's entire dog was frozen in his fateful chokehold on the back of his neck. His eyes were mesmerized and his two hind legs moved from time to time.

Entei took him in his mouth and then put him on Rope's chest. Then he himself went over to the blanket and plopped down next to Rope, and tucked one of his front paws under Rope's head.

Entei's paw was hairy and still soft, and because it was a fire-type Pokémon, it also had a warmth to it that smelled like a sun-dried quilt.

Rope rested his head on it, wriggling a bit involuntarily to find a comfortable position.

Charmander crawled upwards as well, resting on Rope's arm. growlithe, on the other hand, moved to find a more comfortable position and closed his eyes as well.

And so it was, in this crisis-ridden but sunny forest, that Rope and his companions took their naps with a big grin on their faces.

The world was the same way.

Back when Rope was weak, every carnivorous Pokémon in Viridian Forest thought of him as a mid-morning or mid-night snack. But now, with Entei, Charmander, and Growlithe by his side, not a single Pokémon came to trouble them even when they were lying at the water source.

The forest, and even the whole world, showed him a good side.

When you're strong, a lot of things are incredibly beautiful.

When you're weak, the world can be cruel in ways you don't want to recognize.

Try to be strong, Rope, and your future will always be bright.
