Chapter 30 - Dortmund u19 v VfB Stuttgart 2: Putting on a show

The Dortmund attack cut through the Stuttgart defence like hot knife through butter. Riley leading the charge he played a quick 1-2 pass with August. Riley recieved the ball close to the box. By this point the two centre backs were wary of him, Riley faked a long shot and they sprung into action with hopes of blocking but Riley rolled the ball with his studs. August anticipated that move from Riley.

August got himself in the box, the left back marking Samuel playing him onside. Riley sent a rabona pass as the ball was chipped over the two defenders who thought of blocking the shot. August didn't even trap the ball, he swung his foot and left the keeper rooted in his spot.

"What a goooooooal. O'Brian makes it two for Dortmund. What a well worked goal. My goodness, at the heart of it again. The little maestro. Riley." The commentator praised. Coach Mike and his staff were a little shocked by the nature of that goal, especially the audacity of Riley. "We really must tie him down to the club." Mike muttered as he looked at Riley celebrating with his teammates.

The celebration came to an end. The referee urging Dortmund to return to their position. The match restarted and a few minutes later ended due to halftime. Both set of players went in the tunnel to their respective teams locker rooms.

Halftime team talk ended and the players were back on the field for the second half. Coach Mike had tweaked his formation, Vasco had been introduced and Samuel was taken off. Riley because of his versatility was moved to the right wing.

The match was stale for a couple of minutes, Stuttgart with the drive to pull one back attacked relentlessly. The Dortmund defence was under attack in the opening minutes of the second half. Stuttgart no.1 striker was fouled by Nnamdi Collins which earned the Dortmund defender a yellow card.

As they prepared to take the free kick, all of a sudden the defensive midfielder had a bad premonition. He looked around the pitch trying to find someone. He kept looking around until he saw Riley standing just before the centre circle, in his own half. The DM didn't know why but he didn't like Riley standing there, especially with his team's right back the last man. 'Hmph, whatever. If Kenny doesn't score the ball will go out of play anyways.' He snorted and focused on the play.

Kenny, the Stuttgart set-piece guy ran to the ball and struck it towards goal. The ball on target but the Dortmund keeper reacted and parried the ball and it fell on the feet of Michel Ludwing, who cleared the ball. This was more than a clearance of the ball. Stuttgart DM started sweating profusely as the ball was cleared towards Riley's position.

The right back figured he should combat Riley and he got physical holding on to Riley. The ball descended, the right back got tighter but Riley had determination. He used all his strength to hold the right back off and took the ball as it bounced in front of him turning with the right back, who was shocked at the kid's strength.

After turning away from the defender, Riley felt a tug on his shirt but Riley used all his agility to shake being pulled back. He charged with the ball. The keeper who was confident his teammate would score and had left his goal vacant and stood way outside his box was now scrambling to get back. Riley seeing the keeper off his postion put his foot through the ball.

The ball flew through the air, as the keeper was running he kept glancing back at the ball which was flying at an amazing speed. The keeper instantly jumped to try and parry the ball as soon as he made it in the 6 yard box but the ball had speed. It zoomed past him and rattled the net.

"Ohh my goodness. What a gooooooooal. The boy wonder again. He can do it all! He can do absolutely everything!" The commentator lost his mind. The whole pitch lost their minds collectively as Riley ran to the Dortmund bench and celebrated with the coaching staff and his teammates.

In the stands

"I really must make you my first client, Riley." Sam muttered to herself as she looked at the scenes on the pitch.
