Chapter 27: unexpected message
When Lila regained consciousness, she found herself in a hospital room, the sterile smell of antiseptic filling her nostrils. Panic surged through her as she realized where she was.
"Are you okay?" a familiar voice asked. It was Alexander, his face etched with concern. "You scared me when you fainted."
Lila nodded slowly, still disoriented. "What happened?"
"You fainted," he explained, his voice gentle but firm. "The doctors are checking you out. They want to make sure everything is alright."
Just then, a doctor entered the room, a clipboard in hand. "Good to see you awake, Mrs. Hart. We ran some tests, and I have some news."
Lila's heart raced. "What is it?"
The doctor smiled reassuringly. "Congratulations, you're two months pregnant."
"Pregnant!" they both exclaimed in unison, shock evident on their faces.
Alexander's expression shifted from concern to joy. "Babe, you're pregnant!" he said, wrapping his arms around her in a tight embrace. "This is amazing!"
Lila felt a mix of emotions—joy, fear, and uncertainty. Now she was pregnant. "I… I didn't expect this," she stammered, her mind racing.
"Are you okay?" Alexander asked, pulling back to look into her eyes. "You seem a bit overwhelmed."
"I'm just surprised," Lila admitted, her heart pounding. "I didn't know how to feel."
Before she could process the news, Alexander received a call about Eleanor being at the police station for interrogation. "I need to go," he said, his expression serious. "I'll be right back."
As he left, Lila's mind swirled with thoughts of her pregnancy and the implications it held for her relationship with Ethan.
