Chapter 29: The Aftermath
"She should have thought of that before she attacked my wife," Alexander said, his voice unwavering.
As he turned to leave, Eleanor's mother called after him, "You can't just abandon her!"
"I can and I will," Alexander replied, his voice firm. "She needs to face the consequences of her actions."
"No, Lila can't give birth to her son," James's mother murmured, a hint of concern in her voice. "If she did, her child would be favored by Grandma."
"Mom," James interjected, trying to process the weight of her words.
"We need to find a way to get Eleanor out of her predicament," James's mother insisted, her determination evident.
James glanced at his father and urged him to call his elder brother, Alexander's dad, to explain the situation. He hoped Alexander's dad could contact the police to secure Eleanor's release.
James's father stepped away to make the call, relaying the details of the troubling situation.
"James, you need to discipline your wife," his mother said firmly. "She is making things difficult for us, and your reputation is on the line here."
"Okay, Mom," James replied, feeling the gravity of the moment.
The tension in the room was palpable as they all awaited a solution to the undefined crisis that loomed over them.
After the confrontation, Alexander returned home, his mind still racing. He was relieved to know Lila was safe but furious about what had happened. He found Lila sitting on the couch, her expression a mix of worry and relief.
"How did it go?" she asked, her voice trembling.
"I made sure they know what she did to you," Alexander replied, his tone serious. "She won't be getting out anytime soon."
Lila felt a wave of gratitude wash over her. "Thank you for protecting me," she said softly.
"Always," Alexander replied, pulling her into a warm embrace. "I love you and our baby."
As they settled in for the night, Lila felt a sense of peace. She knew they would face challenges ahead, but together, they could overcome anything.
