Chapter 35: Still wanna be with you
The next morning, Lila awoke in Ethan's apartment, the soft light filtering through the curtains casting a warm glow over the room. She turned to see Ethan still asleep beside her, his features relaxed and peaceful. A rush of affection filled her heart as she recalled the passion they had shared the night before.
But as the reality of her situation set in, a wave of anxiety washed over her. She had spent the night with Ethan, betraying Alexander's trust. She carefully slipped out of bed, trying not to disturb him, and made her way to the bathroom.
After a quick shower, Lila dressed in the clothes she had worn the day before, her heart racing as she realized she needed to leave before Alexander noticed her absence at her aunt place. What if he call her? She quietly gathered her things and glanced back at Ethan, who was still lost in slumber. The sight of him stirred a mix of longing and guilt within her.
As she stepped out of the apartment, Lila felt a rush of adrenaline. She drove home, her mind racing with thoughts of what she would say to Alexander. She had to come up with a believable excuse for her absence at her aunt place if possible he had called her.
When she arrived home, the house was quiet. Lila took a deep breath, steeling herself for the confrontation that awaited her. Just as she entered the kitchen, she heard the front door open.
"Good morning, love!" Alexander called out, his voice cheerful as he entered the house. He looked refreshed and ready to tackle the day, dressed in a crisp suit.
"Good morning!" Lila replied, forcing a smile as she turned to face him. "How was your night?"
"Busy overnight," he said, pouring himself a cup of coffee. "I was up late finalizing some details for the new project. I think we're really going to make a splash with this one."
Lila nodded, her heart swelling with pride for her husband. "That's great to hear! I'm so proud of you."
As they sat down for breakfast, Lila felt a pang of guilt. She was living a lie, and the weight of it pressed heavily on her chest. She had just spent the night with Ethan, and now she was sitting across from the man who loved her unconditionally.
"Are you okay?" Alexander asked, his brow furrowing as he noticed her distracted demeanor. "You seem a bit off this morning."
"Just tired, I guess," Lila replied, forcing a smile. "I didn't sleep well."
"Maybe you need to take it easy," he suggested.concern etched on his face. "You're pregnant, after all. I want you to be healthy for our baby."
Lila felt a rush of warmth at his words, but it was quickly overshadowed by the guilt that gnawed at her. "I will, I promise," she said softly.
After breakfast, Lila decided to take a walk in the garden to clear her mind. The sun was shining, and the flowers were in full bloom, but her heart felt heavy. She needed to figure out how to navigate her feelings for both Alexander and Ethan without losing everything.
As she strolled through the garden, her phone buzzed with a message from Ethan. "I didn't know when you left, hope he didn't find out."
