Chapter 6 - The Birth Of A New Hunter (1)

It had been three days since the floating blue screen had appeared in front of Carl as he experimented with its uses.

He found out ways to use it, and its features, which defied logic. From the all-item store to the incredible storage of the inventory space. So far, the number of things the space could hold has been determined to be 25,000 kg, which is impressive on its own. Although it is a little strange that this hunter has had no one calling him or checking up on him, it benefitted,d him, and he is also thankful the house is a rat-infested building, solving the problem of his food situation.

Carl was roasting a rat that he bled with the blood in a cup and the roasted meat on a plate as he sat on the long dining table by himself next to the empty chairs.

*Gulp*, *Gulp*

The blood that passed through his throat was the best thing he ever had; although he wasn't getting any exp from the rats he was eating, he was sure he would figure out how to get exp when he moved out of the house. As he thought of the system to appear.

"Still the same," he said disappointedly as he tapped on the karma store, where he was introduced to a variety of items for sale.

"Ugh!" Looking at the points that he didn't know how to increase lying there as he so badly wanted to buy the race change rune and the reincarnation ticket but couldn't always dampen his spirit. "Well, I'll find out someday," he shrugged as he ate his food.

The regeneration(f) trait he had was no joke. He didn't like hurting himself, but he kept poking himself with the fork on his palm and enjoyed seeing his wound close. Although it was slow, the waiting was also part of the fun. The other problem he had was his balding issue. His hair kept falling off, and he was now almost hairless; he didn't even have eyebrows anymore, and the hair on his head was just left with a few strands.

As he was wearing an oversized t-shirt and brown pants while walking barefoot on the cold wooden floors, he heard the doorbell ring as he rushed to the front door. From what he has seen so far, This body doesn't have parents, so he was taken care of by his grandparents, and he is extremely antisocial from not having a smartphone or even a TV.

From the peephole, Carl saw a few people standing behind the door. The door's small peephole made it blurry to see them, but they were in black suits and green ties as he thought of how to deal with these unwanted visitors.

" Who are you!?" He shouted to ask the people on the other side of the door.

"We're here to do a welfare check on you, Mr. Cromwell," one of the three guys said. "Your wife asked to check whether you are okay; that's all we need, sir." He was salivating when he looked at them; as he stared at the guy's chest, their thumping heart was visible, and he imagined eating them as he stopped himself from breaking the door and charging at them.

The mention of a wife brought him back to his senses. "Wife?... Hmm, haven't heard of her before," he thought. He scratched his chin as he answered, "I'm okay, and you guys could leave." He wasn't sure if they were suspicious or just worried but they kept asking him if he was sure over and over before they left. Carl hadn't seen any pictures of the so-called wife or a ring around, so it boggled him about the mention of a wife.

After making sure they were gone, he cursed as loudly as he could"Fuck!" He didn't want people coming here since that was the best part about the house now people are coming here he was sure they would come there again and if was bad news

"Should I ditch this place?" He thought aloud; he didn't want to deal with these unknown fake cops and the wife he was just now hearing of. He was thinking of either going to a bustling city or deep into an isolated place. Both of them had their pros and cons, going to the city means being able to avoid people who knew Cromwell, but he would have to always repress his appetite for human meat. Going to an isolated place meant no humans, and he could eat all the live meat he wanted, but he wasn't too keen on the idea of being alone for who knows how long.

He took a hot shower, as he watched himself in the mirror with a towel wrapped around his waist as he stared disappointedly at his appearance. Carl wasn't going to say he was handsome in his past life, but it was way better than what he looked like now. "How am I going to fix this?" He said he was touching his hair, which lost even the smallest strand of hair.

Going to the wardrobe and picking the first thing he could find along with storing some clothes, money, and some of Cromwell's hunting gear in his inventory. He wouldn't know when he would need the weapon, but it would come in handy one day. Carl also knew that the weapons were a little useless since his body was better than any fire weapon he could think of.

With the map, he checked the closest town it would take 3 hours to reach; he was excited to see how fast he would reach there by running.

Three guys who just checked on Carl were driving away in their black car as the other one in the passenger seat took out his phone to call.

"We checked on him, Mr. Cromwell. Seems like he's doing fine". "Are you sure?", the voice from the phone asked in a low tone. "Positive, Mr. Cromwell".

The man on the phone sighed in relief as he was in his office in the same black suit, but instead of a green ti,e, he wore a black one. He looked at a picture of the hunter when he was a kid and said," Sorry I couldn't be there for you, Charli.". He was so worried when he saw the candle that was connected to Charlie's soul flicker and turn off before reigniting on its own, that's why he sent company's agents to check up on Charlie.

Resting back on his chair, he took a glass and a whiskey bottle as he lit a cigarette and poured himself a drink to ease his tension.
