Chapter 51 - Dinglebarry Doggo

Xinx's chat is very popular, despite her not being a tangible, physical being. In her eBunnee chats, her comments and responses vary between '...', '..', and '....', depending on factors such as the weather, the time of posting, and the popular shoe colour of the day. These subtle variations imbue her messages with different meanings, captivating audiences for hours on end. Enthusiastic minds delve into the philosophical depths of her communications, debating whether she unveils cosmic secrets for us, or maybe she is leaving pellets for Pac-Man to gobble up, or the number of pimples she has on her back—but beware of her virtual typos; sometimes, an extra '.' is presented, altering the meaning of her utterances. Approach her scribbles with reverence and caution to avoid misinterpretation.

In anticipation of their epic duet partnership in Mask, Eliza and Kai Uzros spent the earlier part of the day crafting their deadly companions to assist them in the event. While some opted for raw power, others favoured stat-boosting Dinglebarry, and a few leaned towards cuteness.

Eliza and Kai Uzros admired the Dinglebarry they created together. It was a little stumpy doggo with silver-white fur, making it look like a cross between a yeti and a giant silverfish. Some people made giant, ugly spider pets, but at least this pet was somewhat pleasing to the eye—and not just one eye: BOTH OF THEM!

The doggo dashed towards random NPCs in the game, letting out a series of "YAK YAK YAK YAK!"

"Careful, Gig-git. You don't want to stir up bad karma from the noodle-poodle-coodle or something; let them be," Eliza advised with a playful smile. Gig-git, her loyal doggo, stood before Eliza with a stern expression and barked out, "Yak yak yak," to which Eliza responded, "YAK YAK YAK YAK," even louder. The Dinglebarry doggo promptly quieted down, exchanging a knowing glance with his owner.

Eliza shot Kai a stern look, silently urging him to complete the sentence and dispel her severity. "As soon as we crafted this Dinglebarry together, I knew we had achieved perfection... with the adorable YAK, just like those from thee."

Eliza's face lit up and transformed into a visage of pure delight. "And not only that, Kai-kin-kins, it has so many tricks up its furry sleeves."

Kai laughed again. "And it boasts so many useful skills to aid us, like a sixth sense."

"Like Fifty Sense, the rapper? Not a fan of rap music, but I think Enema is okay."

"Are you sure you pronounced their names correctly?" Kai teased, gently tousling Eliza's hair, his hand going through it since they hadn't coded a hitbox for her head.

"Not sure, but does our Dinglebarry have a sixth sense? What does that mean for us?"

"Yeah, it means they can detect things humans can't, like ghosts and such."

Eliza's head filled with intrigue, and butterflies danced within her thoughts. "Interesting... Lillian can see that ghost girl, Larry or whatever, who was always following her around and stuff... I'm curious if Lilly shares the same sixth sense. I'll definitely need to check her stats later."

Kai paused for a second, feeling uncertain about the stat system within Mask. Surely, they didn't list abilities like having a sixth sense on the players' profiles. It was akin to listing someone's skill in POGS or habit of putting the toilet seat down after flushing—mostly unnecessary information. Yet, having a sixth sense was a highly underrated skill. Despite his uncertainty, he resolved to check with Eliza.

"Alizah-Aliza-Eliza, I don't think the stats show this within Mask, but we can definitely check."

"If she doesn't have a sixth sense, she might at least have some sense. One of the six senses was good enough for me. I checked out her profile, and she hasn't entered the game yet, so she was probably trying to figure out how to log in, or turn it on, or something. Trust her not to be able to do simple things. Sigh."

Kai was surprised to discover that you could add a rival competitor to the game as friends. So, you could add people to view them and know their location? That kinda felt like cheating a little and could be easily abused. But on second thought, it served a purpose; it allowed others to track your whereabouts on eBunnee, enhancing your presence and influence on the platform. In that context, it made some sense—still, if your location was known, you wouldn't be able to sneak off and camp in a bush full of thorns and birds, enjoying a picnic and whatnot.

"Meow meow, purr, purr, mow, Kai-Kai-Kins!" she said cutely as she held up Gig-git to Kai's face. She pushed the Dinglebarry doggo even closer to Kai, and Kai, without hesitation, kissed the doggo on the lips. Jealousy overwhelmed Eliza, unsure if she was jealous of Kai or the doggo. She smiled while still holding up Gig-git in front of Kai and kissed Gig-git, albeit regretfully, on the wrong end—in VR, none of that really matters.
