The cave offered little comfort, but it was a reprieve from the relentless pursuit of the wraiths. The air was damp, and the sound of dripping water echoed faintly. The group huddled around a small fire Kael had managed to kindle, the flickering flames casting shadows on the rough stone walls.
Amara sat against the cave wall, the pendant resting in her palm. Its light was faint, almost as if it too was recovering from the earlier battle.

Tending to Wounds
Seris inspected the gash on her forehead, wincing as she dabbed it with a cloth Lyra had soaked in water from a nearby trickle. "It's not deep, but it's going to scar," she muttered.
Kael chuckled weakly, holding his side where a wraith's claws had grazed him. "You're lucky. I think my ribs are cracked. Again."
Lyra knelt beside him, her hands trembling as she prepared a poultice from herbs she'd salvaged during their journey. "Hold still," she said softly. "This might sting."
Kael hissed as she applied the paste, but he managed a grin. "You've got a gentle touch, Lyra. Ever consider becoming a healer instead of a scholar?"
Lyra gave him a small smile. "If we survive this, maybe I will."

Amara's Guilt
Amara stared into the fire, her mind replaying the battle. The sight of her friends being struck down haunted her. She clenched her fists, frustration and guilt gnawing at her.
"I wasn't strong enough," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Seris glanced at her, her tone firm. "None of us were. Don't put this all on yourself, Amara. We're a team."
Amara shook her head. "But it's my responsibility. The pendant… the shards… everything. If I can't protect you, how am I supposed to face Raven?"
Kael leaned forward, wincing as he adjusted his position. "You're not supposed to do it alone. That's why we're here. We've got your back, even when things go sideways."
Lyra placed a reassuring hand on Amara's shoulder. "Kael's right. We're in this together. And you're stronger than you think."

A Glimpse of Hope
As the group settled, Amara held the pendant close, focusing on its faint glow. Slowly, she felt a warmth spread through her, a reminder of the light's resilience.
The shard's energy pulsed faintly, as if responding to her determination. Amara took a deep breath, her resolve strengthening.
"We'll need to train," she said, her voice steadier. "Vyrak and Raven won't stop, but we can be ready next time."
Seris nodded. "Agreed. We'll need to refine our tactics and push ourselves harder. No more surprises."
Kael grinned, despite his injuries. "I'll need a new sword first. But yeah, let's show them what we're made of."
Lyra hesitated, then spoke with uncharacteristic determination. "I want to help more. I've been holding back, but I can do better."
Amara smiled at her. "We all can. And we will."

A Plan for the Future
The group spent the rest of the night strategizing. Seris shared combat techniques, Kael recounted past battles to identify their mistakes, and Lyra practiced using her agility to outmaneuver foes.
Amara focused on the pendant, trying to understand its power. She felt the shard's energy respond to her emotions, growing brighter with her confidence and dimmer with her doubt.
By dawn, the group was exhausted but more united than ever. The fire had burned low, and the first light of morning seeped into the cave.
Seris stretched, her movements stiff. "We'll need to move soon. Raven won't wait for us to recover."
Amara stood, her expression resolute. "Then we'll move. But this time, we'll be ready."
