Part 1: "The Hunt Begins
Miko crouched atop the ledge of an abandoned skyscraper, her breath visible in the cold night air. Below, the city of Shinjukai sprawled like a neon jungle, its streets pulsating with life. But she wasn't here for the living. Somewhere in the shadows below, something was feeding.
"Okay, I've tapped into the street cameras," Mei's voice crackled in her earpiece. "South alley, near the noodle stand. You're looking for a man in a trench coat—except, surprise, he's not a man. Probably a lesser demon. Ugly face, lots of teeth."
Miko smirked, adjusting the strap of her twin daggers. "Sounds like my kind of guy. Keep the intel coming."
Her pulse quickened as she leapt from the rooftop, landing with a muted thud in the alley below. This was it—her first hunt without her uncle breathing down her neck, criticizing her every move. Tonight, she would prove she didn't need anyone's help.

Part 2: "Prey and Predator"
The alley reeked of decay, the stench growing stronger as Miko moved deeper into the shadows. Her grip tightened on the hilt of her dagger as her eyes adjusted to the dim light. Then she saw it—the figure Mei had described, hunched over a crumpled body.
The demon turned, its true face emerging like a grotesque mask—jagged teeth, sunken eyes, skin stretched tight over its skull. Miko didn't hesitate. She lunged, daggers flashing.
But the creature was faster. With a guttural snarl, it swatted her aside like a ragdoll. She crashed into the wall, the impact knocking the air from her lungs.
"Not so easy, huh?" she muttered, struggling to her feet. Blood trickled from her temple, but she wasn't about to back down.
Before she could attack again, a low, resonant voice echoed through the alley.
"You're wasting your time."
A figure stepped out of the shadows—tall, ethereal, and utterly otherworldly. His silver hair shimmered under the dim streetlights, and his golden eyes locked onto hers with an intensity that made her freeze.
"Who the hell are you?" Miko demanded, gripping her daggers.
The stranger ignored her, his attention on the demon. "Leave, before I lose my patience."
The demon hissed, but one look at the stranger seemed to drain its resolve. It fled, disappearing into the darkness.
"What—what just happened?" Miko stammered, adrenaline coursing through her veins.
The man turned to her, his expression unreadable. "You're welcome," he said coolly, before walking away.

Part 3: "First Impressions"
"Hey! I wasn't done with you!"
Miko sprinted after the stranger, her frustration outweighing her fear. He stopped, turning just enough to glance over his shoulder.
"Persistence," he murmured, more to himself than to her. "A dangerous trait."
Miko stepped closer, her daggers still at the ready. "You don't just show up, scare off a demon, and walk away like nothing happened. Who are you? And what are you doing in my city?"
He raised an eyebrow. "Your city? Interesting claim for someone who clearly can't handle it."
Miko's grip tightened. "Try me."
The man sighed, as if bored by her bravado. "Bai Shezhuan Lao. And you should be thanking me for saving your life, not pointing those dull blades at me."
"Saving me?" Miko scoffed. "I had it under control."
Bai's gaze dropped to the blood dripping from her temple. "Clearly."
The silence stretched, heavy and tense. Finally, Bai turned to leave again.
"Next time, don't interfere," Miko called after him. "I don't need your help."
He paused, a smirk playing at his lips. "We'll see."

Part 4: "The Warning"
Miko stormed into Mei's cluttered apartment, the glow of computer monitors casting eerie shadows on the walls. Mei spun in her chair, her pink hair a chaotic halo.
"Well? How'd it go?" Mei asked, sipping a soda.
"Terrible. Some weirdo scared off my target," Miko grumbled, collapsing onto the couch.
Mei raised an eyebrow. "Define 'weirdo.'"
"Silver hair, creepy eyes, way too smug for his own good."
Mei froze, her expression suddenly serious. "Wait. Silver hair? Creepy eyes? Was his name Bai something?"
Miko blinked. "Yeah. Bai Shezhuan Lao. Why?"
Mei whistled low. "You just ran into him. Half-demon, half-snake. He's been around for centuries. Some say he's a hero, others say he's worse than the monsters we hunt."
"Well, he didn't feel like a hero," Miko muttered.
"Be careful," Mei warned. "People who get involved with him don't usually live to tell the tale."

Part 5: "Shadows Linger"
The city buzzed with life as Miko walked home, her thoughts clouded with frustration and unease. Mei's words echoed in her mind: People who get involved with him don't usually live to tell the tale.
She shook her head, trying to focus. But then she felt it—a presence.
She turned, scanning the crowded street. And there he was, standing at the edge of the sidewalk, watching her with those unsettling golden eyes.
Miko's heart skipped a beat, but she didn't look away.
This wasn't over.
THE END.
